1 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. And as they were taking theirmeal together, there at Mizpah,	1 Or, au cours du septième mois, Ismaël fils de Nétanya, fils d’Élichama, qui était de la famille royale, arriva avec dix hommes pour rencontrer Godolias fils d’Ahikam à Mispa. Ils prirent ensemble un repas à Mispa,
2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	2 et c’est alors qu’Ismaël, fils de Nétanya et les dix hommes qui étaient avec lui se levèrent pour frapper de leur épée Godolias fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, que le roi de Babylone avait établi sur le pays.
3 And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.	3 Ismaël frappa aussi tous les Judéens qui étaient avec Godolias à Mispa, ainsi que les Kaldéens qui se trouvaient là, tous hommes de guerre.
4 On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before the news had become known,	4 Deux jours après l’assassinat de Godolias, comme personne ne le savait encore,
5 eighty men arrived from Shechem, Shiloh and Samaria, with their beards shaved off, their clothing torn,and covered in self-inflicted gashes; they were bringing cereal offerings and incense with them to present to theTemple of Yahweh.	5 des hommes de Sichem, de Silo et de Samarie, arrivèrent au nombre de 80; ils avaient la barbe rasée, les habits déchirés, le corps couverts d’entailles et ils portaient en mains une offrande et de l’encens pour le Temple de Yahvé.
6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out of Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. When he met themhe said, 'Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'	6 Ismaël fils de Nétanya sortit de Mispa à leur rencontre alors qu’ils arrivaient en se lamentant, et il leur dit: “Venez voir Godolias fils d’Ahikam!”
7 But once they were wel inside the town, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them, with the help ofhis men, and had them thrown into the storage-wel .	7 Mais comme ils arrivaient au milieu de la ville, Ismaël fils de Nétanya, avec la troupe qui l’accompagnait, entreprit d’égorger ces hommes au-dessus de la citerne.
8 There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.	8 Une dizaine d’entre eux dirent à Ismaël: “Ne nous fais pas mourir! Nous avons des provisions cachées dans la campagne, du blé, de l’orge, de l’huile et du miel.” Alors Ismaël arrêta le massacre et ils ne furent pas mis à mort comme leurs frères.
9 The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled itwith the slaughtered men.	9 La citerne où Ismaël jeta les cadavres de ces hommes qu’il avait tués, était la grande citerne que le roi Aza avait fait creuser à cause de Bacha, roi d’Israël. Ismaël fils de Nétanya la remplit de ses victimes.
10 Ishmael then took al the rest of the people prisoner who were at Mizpah, the king's daughters and althe remaining people in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, commander of the guard, had entrusted to Gedaliah sonof Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them prisoner and set out, intending to cross over to the Ammonites.	10 Puis Ismaël emmena vers l’exil tout le reste du peuple qui était à Mispa, avec les filles du roi et tous ceux du peuple qui étaient encore à Mispa; tous ceux que Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, avait confiés à Godolias fils d’Ahikam. Ismaël fils de Nétanya les fit lever de bon matin pour se rendre chez les Ammonites.
11 When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,	11 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient avec lui apprirent tout le mal qu’Ismaël fils de Nétanya avait fait.
12 they mustered all their men and set out to attack Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They caught up with himat the great Pool of Gibeon.	12 Ils prirent tous leurs hommes et allèrent attaquer Ismaël fils de Nétanya; ils le rencontrèrent aux Grandes-Eaux de Gabaon.
13 At the sight of Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him, al the people with Ishmaelwere delighted.	13 En apercevant Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui l’accompagnaient, ceux qui étaient avec Ismaël furent remplis de joie.
14 Al the people whom Ishmael had taken as prisoners from Mizpah turned about, went back and joinedJohanan son of Kareah.	14 Tous le peuple qu’Ismaël emmenait de Mispa vers l’exil changea de camp; ils se retournèrent et partirent vers Yohanan fils de Karéa.
15 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.	15 Quant à Ismaël fils de Nétanya, il prit la fuite devant Yohanan et arriva chez les Ammonites avec huit hommes.
16 Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.	16 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient avec lui prirent avec eux le reste du peuple qu’ils avaient repris à Ismaël fils de Nétanya: c’était ceux qu’il avait emmenés de Mispa après avoir tué Godolias fils d’Ahikam; il y avait là des hommes de guerre, des femmes, des petits enfants et des eunuques qu’il avait ramenés de Gabaon.
17 Setting off, they made a halt at Khan Kimham near Bethlehem, intending to go on to Egypt,	17 Ils se mirent en route et s’arrêtèrent au Khan de Kimhan, près de Bethléem; ensuite ils voulurent gagner l’Égypte
18 to get away from the Chaldaeans. They were now terrified of them, since Ishmael son of Nethaniahhad kil ed Gedaliah son of Ahikam whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	18 à cause des Kaldéens.
