Jeremiah 41

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. 2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	2 Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, se leva avec ses dix hommes et ils frappèrent de l'épée Godolias, filsd'Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân. 3 And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.	3 De même, tous les Judéens qui étaient avec lui, Godolias, à Miçpa, et les Chaldéens qui setrouvaient là -- c'étaient des hommes de guerre -- Yishmaël les tua.

6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out of Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. When he met themhe said, 'Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'	6 Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, sortit de Miçpa à leur rencontre, et il avançait en pleurant. Les ayantrejoints, il leur dit: "Venez chez Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam."
7 But once they were wel inside the town, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them, with the help ofhis men, and had them thrown into the storage-wel .	7 Mais quand ils eurent pénétré en pleine ville, Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, les égorgea, aidé de seshommes, et les fit jeter au fond d'une citerne.
8 There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.	8 Toutefois, parmi ces gens, il s'en trouva dix qui dirent à Yishmaël: "Laisse-nous en vie, car nousavons dans les champs des provisions cachées, froment, orge, huile et miel." 9 The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled itwith the slaughtered men.	9 La citerne où Yishmaël avait jeté tous les cadavres des gens qu'il avait tués était une grandeciterne, celle que le roi Asa avait aménagée contre Basha, roi d'Israël. 10 Ishmael then took al the rest of the people prisoner who were at Mizpah, the king's daughters and althe remaining people in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, commander of the guard, had entrusted to Gedaliah sonof Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them prisoner and set out, intending to cross over to the Ammonites.	10 Puis Yishmaël fit prisonniers tout le reste du peuple qui était à Miçpa, les filles du roi et tout lepeuple resté à Miçpa que Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, avait confiés à Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam;Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, les emmena prisonniers et se mit en marche pour passer chez les Ammonites.
11 When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,	11 Quand Yohanân, fils de Qaréah, et tous les officiers qui se trouvaient avec lui apprirent tous lescrimes de Yishmaël, fils de Netanya,
12 they mustered all their men and set out to attack Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They caught up with himat the great Pool of Gibeon.	12 ils rassemblèrent tous leurs hommes et partirent attaquer Yishmaël, fils de Netanya. Ilsl'atteignirent au grand étang de Gabaôn.
13 At the sight of Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him, al the people with Ishmaelwere delighted.	13 A la vue de Yohanân, fils de Qaréah, et de tous les officiers qui l'accompagnaient, tout le peupleautour de Yishmaël éclata de joie.
14 Al the people whom Ishmael had taken as prisoners from Mizpah turned about, went back and joinedJohanan son of Kareah.	14 Tous ces gens que Yishmaël avait emmenés de Miçpa firent volte-face, ils se retournèrent et s'enallèrent auprès de Yohanân, fils de Qaréah.
15 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.	15 Quant à Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, il échappa à Yohanân, avec huit hommes, et s'en fut chez lesAmmonites.
16 Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.	16 Alors Yohanân, fils de Qaréah, et tous les officiers qui l'accompagnaient rassemblèrent tout lereste du peuple que Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, avait emmené de Miçpa comme prisonniers, après qu'il eut tuéGodolias, fils d'Ahiqam: hommes -- gens de guerre --, femmes et enfants, ainsi que les eunuques, ramenés pareux de Gabaôn.
17 Setting off, they made a halt at Khan Kimham near Bethlehem, intending to go on to Egypt,	17 Ils se mirent en marche et firent étape au Khan de Kimham, près de Bethléem, pour gagnerensuite l'Egypte,
18 to get away from the Chaldaeans. They were now terrified of them, since Ishmael son of Nethaniahhad kil ed Gedaliah son of Ahikam whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	18 loin des Chaldéens qu'on redoutait, car Yishmaël, fils de Netanya, avait tué Godolias, fils deAhiqam, que le roi de Babylone avait préposé au pays.
