Jeremiah 37

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Zedekiah son of Josiah became king, succeeding Coniah son of Jehoiakim. Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon had made him king of Judah.	1 Vino a reinar, en vez de Konías, hijo de Yoyaquim, el rey Sedecías, hijo de Josías, al que Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, puso por rey en tierra de Judá,
2 But neither he nor his courtiers nor the people of the country paid any attention to the words Yahwehspoke through the prophet Jeremiah.	2 pero tampoco él ni sus siervos, ni el pueblo de la tierra, hicieron caso de las palabras que Yahveh había hablado por medio del profeta Jeremías.
3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophetJeremiah with this message, 'Intercede for us with Yahweh our God.'	3 El rey Sedecías envió a Yukal, hijo de Selemías, y al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maaseías, a decir al profeta Jeremías: «¡Ea! Ruega por nosotros a nuestro Dios Yahveh».
4 Now Jeremiah was still moving freely among the people: he had not yet been put in prison.	4 Y Jeremías iba y venía en público, pues no le habían encarcelado.
5 Meanwhile Pharaoh's army was on the move from Egypt and the Chaldaeans besieging Jerusalem hadraised the siege when they heard the news.	5 Las fuerzas de Faraón salieron de Egipto, y al oír hablar de ellos los caldeos que sitiaban a Jerusalén, levantaron el sitio de Jerusalén.
6 Then the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Jeremiah as fol ows,	6 Entonces fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh al profeta Jeremías:
7 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the king of Judah who sent you to consult me make this reply: IsPharaoh's army marching to your aid? It wil withdraw to its own country, Egypt.	7 Así dice Yahveh, el Dios de Israel: Así diréis al rey de Judá que os envía a mí, a consultarme: He aquí que las fuerzas de Faraón que salían en vuestro socorro se han vuelto a su tierra de Egipto,
8 The Chaldaeans wil return to attack this city; they will capture it and burn it down.	8 y volverán los caldeos que atacan a esta ciudad, la tomarán y la incendiarán.
9 Yahweh says this: Do not cheer yourselves up by thinking: The Chaldaeans are leaving us for good.They are not leaving.	9 Así dice Yahveh: No cobréis ánimos diciendo: «Seguro que los caldeos terminarán por dejarnos y marcharse»; porque no se marcharán,
10 Even if you cut to pieces the whole Chaldaean army now fighting against you until there were only thewounded left, they would stand up again, each man in his tent, to burn this city down." '	10 pues aunque hubieseis derrotado a todas las fuerzas de los caldeos que os atacan y les quedaren sólo hombres acribillados, se levantarían cada cual en su tienda e incendiarían esta ciudad.
11 At the time when the Chaldaean army, threatened by Pharaoh's army, had raised the siege ofJerusalem,	11 Cuando las tropas caldeas estaban levantando el sitio de Jerusalén, replegándose ante las tropas del Faraón, aconteció que
12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem for the territory of Benjamin to see about a piece of his propertyamong the people there.	12 Jeremías salía de Jerusalén para ir a tierra de Benjamín a asistir a un reparto en el pueblo.
13 He was at the Benjamin Gate when the guard commander there, a certain Irijah son of Shelemiah,son of Hananiah, arrested the prophet Jeremiah, shouting, 'You are deserting to the Chaldaeans!'	13 Y encontrándose él en la puerta de Benjamín, donde había un vigilante llamado Yiriyías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Jananías, éste prendió al profeta Jeremías diciendo: «¡Tú te pasas a los caldeos!»
14 Jeremiah answered, 'It is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldaeans.' But Irijah would not listen toJeremiah and took him under arrest to the chief men.	14 Dice Jeremías: «¡Falso! Yo no me paso a los caldeos». Pero Yiriyías no le hizo caso, y poniendo preso a Jeremías, le llevó a los jefes,
15 And the chief men, furious with Jeremiah, had him beaten and shut up in the house of the scribeJonathan, which had been turned into a prison.	15 los cuales se irritaron contra Jeremías, le dieron de golpes y le encarcelaron en casa del escriba Jonatán, convertida en prisión.
16 Thus Jeremiah found himself in an underground vault. And there for a long time he stayed.	16 Así que Jeremías ingresó en el calabozo y en las bóvedas y permaneció allí mucho tiempo.
17 Later, King Zedekiah had him sent for, and the king questioned him privately in his palace. 'Is thereany word from Yahweh?' he asked. 'There is,' Jeremiah answered, and added, 'you wil be handed over to theking of Babylon.'	17 El rey Sedecías mandó traerle, y le interrogó en su casa, en secreto: «¿Hay algo de parte de Yahveh?» Dijo Jeremías: «Lo hay». Y añadió: «En mano del rey de Babilonia serás entregado».
18 Jeremiah then said to King Zedekiah, 'What wrong have I done you, or your courtiers or this people,for you to have put me in prison?	18 Y dijo Jeremías al rey Sedecías: «¿En qué te he faltado a ti, a tus siervos y a este pueblo, para que me hayáis puesto en prisón?
19 Where are your prophets now who prophesied, "The king of Babylon wil not attack you or thiscountry"?	19 ¿Pues dónde están vuestros profetas que os profetizaban: “No vendrá el rey de Babilonia contra vosotros ni contra esta tierra?
20 So now I beg you to hear me, my lord king! I beg you to approve my request! Do not have me takenback to the house of the scribe Jonathan, or I shall die there.'	20 Ahora, pues, oiga el rey mi señor, caiga bien en tu presencia mi petición de gracia y no me vuelvas a casa del escriba Jonatán, no muera yo allí».
21 King Zedekiah then gave an order, and Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard and given aloaf of bread a day from the Street of the Bakers as long as there was bread left in the city. So Jeremiah stayedin the Court of the Guard.	21 Entonces el rey Sedecías mandó que custodiasen a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia y se le diese un rosco de pan por día de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que se acabase todo el pan de la ciudad. Y Jeremías permaneció en el patio de la guardia.
