Jeremiah 26

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiahfrom Yahweh,	1 Sul cominciar del regno di Ioahim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, mi fu indirizzata questa parola dal Signore, in questi termini: « Così parla il Signore:
2 'Yahweh says this, "Stand in the court of the Temple of Yahweh. To al the people from the towns ofJudah who come to worship in the Temple of Yahweh you wil say everything I have ordered you to say, notomitting one syllable.	2 Sta nell'atrio della casa del Signore, e di' a tutte le città di Giuda, dalle quali vengono ad adorare nella casa del Signore, tutto quello che io ti ho ordinato di dir loro, senza lasciarne una parola:
3 Perhaps they wil listen and each turn from his evil way: if so, I shal relent and not bring the disaster onthem which I intend because of their misdeeds."	3 può essere che dian retta, e si converta ognuno dalla sua cattiva strada, e che io mi penta del male che intendo di far loro a causa della malvagità delle loro tendenze.
4 Say to them, "Yahweh says this: If you will not listen to me and fol ow my Law which I have given you,	4 E dirai loro: Così parla il Signore: Se non mi date retta e non agite secondo la legge che io vi diedi,
5 and pay attention to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have never tired of sending to you,although you never have paid attention,	5 e non state a sentire le parole dei miei servi, i profeti, che io con ogni sollecitudine ho mandati e indirizzati a voi, e che voi non avete ascoltati,
6 I shal treat this Temple as I treated Shiloh, and make this city a curse for al the nations of the world." '	6 tratterò questa casa come Silo, e questa città la renderò l'esecrazione di tutte le nazioni della terra».
7 The priests and prophets and al the people heard Jeremiah say these words in the Temple of Yahweh.	7 I sacerdoti, i profeti e tutto il popolo sentiron Geremia che diceva tali cose nella casa del Signore.
8 When Jeremiah had finished saying everything that Yahweh had ordered him to say to al the people,the priests and prophets and al the people seized hold of him and said, 'You will die for this!	8 Quando Geremia ebbe finito di dire tutto quello che il Signore gli aveva imposto di riferire a tutto il popolo, i sacerdoti, i profeti e tutto il popolo se ne impadronirono dicendo: « Sia messo a morte!
9 Why have you made this prophecy in Yahweh's name, "This Temple will become like Shiloh, and thiscity become an uninhabited ruin"?' And the people all crowded in on Jeremiah in the Temple of Yahweh.	9 Perchè ha profetizzato nel nome del Signore, dicendo: Questa casa sarà come Silo, questa città sarà desolata e senza abitanti? » E tutto il popolo si radunò contro Geremia nella casa del Signore.
10 Hearing of this, the chief men of Judah came up from the royal palace to the Temple of Yahweh andtook their seats at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh.	10 E i principi di Giuda, sentite queste cose, salirono dalla casa del re alla casa del Signore, e si assisero all'ingresso della porta nuova della casa del Signore.
11 The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the people, 'This man deserves to die,since he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'	11 Allora i sacerdoti e i profeti dis­sero ai principi e a tutto il popolo: « Questo uomo è reo di morte, perchè ha profetizzato contro questa città, come avete sentito coi vostri orecchi ».
12 Jeremiah, however, replied to all the chief men and all the people as fol ows, 'Yahweh himself sentme to prophesy against this Temple and this city al the things you have heard.	12 E Geremia disse a tutti i principi e a tutto il popolo: « Il Signore mi ha mandato a profetizzare riguardo a questa casa e a questa città tutto quello che avete sentito;
13 So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh wilrelent about the disaster that he has decreed for you.	13 or dunque rendete migliore la vostra condotta, le vostre tendenze, e ascoltate la voce del Signore Dio vostro, e il Signore si ripentirà del male che vi ha minacciato,
14 For myself, I am, as you see, in your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me.	14 In quanto a me, eccomi nelle vostre mani, fate di me quello che vi sembra buono e giusto,
15 But be sure of this, that if you put me to death, you wil be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, onthis city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh has truly sent me to you to say al this for you to hear.'	15 ma pensate e riflettete che, se mi fate morire, spargerete del sangue innocente contro voi stessi, contro questa città e i suoi abitanti, perchè in verità mi ha mandato a voi il Signore, a fare intendere ai vostri orecchi tutte queste cose ».
16 The chief men and al the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve todie: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.'	16 Allora i principi e tutto il popolo dissero ai sacerdoti ed ai profeti: « Quest'uomo non è reo di morte, perchè ha parlato a noi nel nome del Signore Dio nostro ».
17 And some of the country's elders rose to address al the assembled people.	17 Si alzarono allora alcuni degli anziani del paese, e parlarono a tutto il popolo dicendo:
18 'Micah of Moresheth,' they said, 'who prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, had this tosay to all the people of Judah, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Zion wil become ploughland, Jerusalem a heap ofrubble and the Temple Mount a wooded height."	18 « Michea di Morasti fu profeta al tempo di Ezechia re di Giuda, e disse a tutto il popolo di Giuda: Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: Sion sarà arata come un campo, e Gerusalemme diverrà un mucchio di pietre, e la montagna del tempio una gran boscaglia.
19 'Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death for this? Did they not rather, fearingYahweh, plead with him, to such effect that Yahweh relented about the disaster which he had decreed for them?Are we now to burden our souls with such a crime?'	19 Forse lo condannò a morte Ezechia re di Giuda e tutto Giuda? Non temerono invece il Signore, non pregarono davanti al Signore, e non si ripentì il Signore del male loro minacciato? Quindi noi facciamo un gran male contro le anime nostre ».
20 There was another man, too, who used to prophesy in Yahweh's name, Uriah son of Shemaiah, fromKiriath-Jearim. He prophesied exactly the same things against this city and this country as Jeremiah.	20 Vi fu un altro uomo che profetò in nome del Signore, Uria, figlio di Semei, di Cariatiarim, e profetizzò contro questa città e contro questo paese, tutte le medesime cose di Geremia.
21 When King Jehoiakim with all his officers and all the chief men heard what he said, the king wasdetermined to put him to death. On hearing this, Uriah took fright and, fleeing, escaped to Egypt.	21 Il re Ioachim, tutti i potenti e i suoi principi sentirono tali parole, e il re cercò di farlo morire. Risaputolo, Uria, impaurito, fuggì e andò in Egitto.
22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan son of Achbor to Egypt with others,	22 Ma il re Ioachim mandò degli uomini in Egitto, Elnatan, figlio di Acobor, ed altri con lui in Egitto,
23 who brought Uriah back from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the swordand his body thrown into the common burial ground.	23 i quali, tratto fuori dell'Egitto Uria, lo condussero al re Ioachim, che lo fece morir di spada, e ne gettò il cadavere nelle sepolture deU'ignobile volgo.
24 But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he was not handed over to the people tobe put to death.	24 Fu dunque la mano di Ahicam, figlio di Safan, che aiutò Geremia in modo che non fosse dato in potere del popolo per essere ucciso.
