Jeremiah 26

1 At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiahfrom Yahweh,	1 Al principio del regno di Joachim, figliuolo di Giosia, re di Giuda, il Signore parlò a me, dicendo:
2 'Yahweh says this, "Stand in the court of the Temple of Yahweh. To al the people from the towns ofJudah who come to worship in the Temple of Yahweh you wil say everything I have ordered you to say, notomitting one syllable.	2 Queste cose dice il Signore: Sta nell'atrio della casa del Signore, e a tutte le città di Giuda, delle quali i cittadini vengono a far adorazione nella casa del Signore, dirai tutto quello, ch'io ti ho ordinato di dir loro: Non ne levare una parola,
3 Perhaps they wil listen and each turn from his evil way: if so, I shal relent and not bring the disaster onthem which I intend because of their misdeeds."	3 Se a sorte ascoltassero, e si convertissero dalla mala lor vita, ond'io mi ripenta del male, che penso di far loro a motivo della malvagità de' loro affetti.
4 Say to them, "Yahweh says this: If you will not listen to me and fol ow my Law which I have given you,	4 E tu dirai loro: Queste cose dice il Signore: Se voi non mi ascolterete, camminando nella mia legge, ch'io diedi a voi,
5 and pay attention to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have never tired of sending to you,although you never have paid attention,	5 E fede prestando alle parole de' servi miei, de profeti, i quali io sollecitamente mandai, e indirizzai a voi, a' quali non avete prestato fede,
6 I shal treat this Temple as I treated Shiloh, and make this city a curse for al the nations of the world." '	6 Io farò a questa casa come a Silo, e questa città la farò l'esecrazione di tutte le nazioni della terra.
7 The priests and prophets and al the people heard Jeremiah say these words in the Temple of Yahweh.	7 E i sacerdoti, e i profeti, e il popol tutto udirono Geremia che dicea tali cose nella casa del Signore.
8 When Jeremiah had finished saying everything that Yahweh had ordered him to say to al the people,the priests and prophets and al the people seized hold of him and said, 'You will die for this!	8 E quando Geremia ebbe finito di dire tutto quello, che il Signore gli avea comandato di far sapere a tutto il popolo, gli miser le mani addosso i sacerdoti, e i profeti, e tutto il popolo, dicendo: Sia messo a morte.
9 Why have you made this prophecy in Yahweh's name, "This Temple will become like Shiloh, and thiscity become an uninhabited ruin"?' And the people all crowded in on Jeremiah in the Temple of Yahweh.	9 Perchè ha egli profetizzato nel nome del Signore, dicendo: Questa casa sarà come Silo, e questa città sarà smantellata, talmente che non vi rimanga abitatore? E si raunò tutto il popolo contro Geremia, nella casa del Signore.
10 Hearing of this, the chief men of Judah came up from the royal palace to the Temple of Yahweh andtook their seats at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh.	10 E udirono queste cose i principi di Giuda, e andarono dalla casa del re alla casa del Signore, e si posero a sedere all'ingresso della porta nuova della casa del Signore.
11 The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the people, 'This man deserves to die,since he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'	11 E i sacerdoti, e i profeti dissero a' principi, e a tutto il popolo: Costui è reo di morte, perchè ha profetizzato contro questa città conforme avete udito colle vostre orecchie.
12 Jeremiah, however, replied to all the chief men and all the people as fol ows, 'Yahweh himself sentme to prophesy against this Temple and this city al the things you have heard.	12 E Geremia disse a tutti i principi, e a tutto il popolo: Il Signore mi ha mandato a profetizzare a questa casa, e a questa città tutto quello, che avete udito.
13 So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh wilrelent about the disaster that he has decreed for you.	13 Or adunque ammendate le vostre vie, e le inclinazioni vostre; e ascoltate la voce del Signore Dio vostro; e il Signore si ripentirà del male, che ha a voi minacciato.
14 For myself, I am, as you see, in your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me.	14 Quanto a me, ecco ch'io sono nelle vostre mani, fate di me quello, che vi piacerà, e parrà:
15 But be sure of this, that if you put me to death, you wil be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, onthis city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh has truly sent me to you to say al this for you to hear.'	15 Sappiate però, e tenete per fermo, che se mi ucciderete porrete il sangue innocente sopra di voi, e sopra questa città, e sopra i suoi abitanti: perocché in verità mi ha mandato a voi il Signore, perchè alle orecchie vostre intimassi tutte queste cose.
16 The chief men and al the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve todie: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.'	16 E i principi, e tutto il popolo dissero a' sacerdoti, e ai profeti: quest'uomo non è reo di morte; perocché ha parlato a noi nel nome del Signore Dio nostro.
17 And some of the country's elders rose to address al the assembled people.	17 Si alzarono allora alcuni de' seniori del paese, e parlarono a tutto il popolo dicendo:
18 'Micah of Moresheth,' they said, 'who prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, had this tosay to all the people of Judah, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Zion wil become ploughland, Jerusalem a heap ofrubble and the Temple Mount a wooded height."	18 Michea di Morasthi fu profeta a tempo di Ezechia re di Giuda, e disse a tutto il popolo di Giuda: Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti: Sionne sarà arata come un campo: e Gerusalemme sarà un monte di pietre: e il monte della casa del Signore sarà una gran boscaglia.
19 'Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death for this? Did they not rather, fearingYahweh, plead with him, to such effect that Yahweh relented about the disaster which he had decreed for them?Are we now to burden our souls with such a crime?'	19 Condannollo forse a morte Ezechia re di Giuda, e tutto Giuda? E non temeron essi il Signore, e implorarono la bontà del Signore, e il Signore si ripentì del male, ch'ei loro aveva minacciato? Noi pertanto faremmo un male grande in danno delle anime nostre?
20 There was another man, too, who used to prophesy in Yahweh's name, Uriah son of Shemaiah, fromKiriath-Jearim. He prophesied exactly the same things against this city and this country as Jeremiah.	20 Vi fu ancora un uomo, che profetava nel nome del Signore, Uria figliuolo di Semei di Cariathiarim, e profetizzò contro questa città, e contro questo paese tutto quello, che ha detto Geremia.
21 When King Jehoiakim with all his officers and all the chief men heard what he said, the king wasdetermined to put him to death. On hearing this, Uriah took fright and, fleeing, escaped to Egypt.	21 E il re Joachim, e tutti i magnati, e tutti i principi udiron le sue parole, e il re cerco di farlo morire. E Uria n'ebbe vento, e temè, e fuggì, e andò in Egitto.
22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan son of Achbor to Egypt with others,	22 E il re Joachim mandò gente in Egitto, Elnathan figliuolo di Achobor, e altri con esso in Egitto.
23 who brought Uriah back from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the swordand his body thrown into the common burial ground.	23 E trasser fuora dall'Egitto Uria, e lo condussero al re Joachim, che lo fece morir di spada, e gettò il suo cadavere nella sepoltura del volgo ignobile.
24 But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he was not handed over to the people tobe put to death.	24 L'aiuto adunque di Ahicam figliuolo di Saphan giovò a Geremia, perchè non fosse dato in poter del popolo, e noll'uccidessero.
