Jeremiah 26

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiahfrom Yahweh,	1 All'inizio del regno di Ioiakìm, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, ci fu questa parola da parte del Signore, in questi termini:
2 'Yahweh says this, "Stand in the court of the Temple of Yahweh. To al the people from the towns ofJudah who come to worship in the Temple of Yahweh you wil say everything I have ordered you to say, notomitting one syllable.	2 "Così dice il Signore: Mettiti nell'atrio della casa del Signore e annuncia a tutte le città di Giuda, che vengono a prostrarsi nella casa del Signore, tutte le parole che io ti avrò ordinato di dire a loro: non omettere alcunché.
3 Perhaps they wil listen and each turn from his evil way: if so, I shal relent and not bring the disaster onthem which I intend because of their misdeeds."	3 Forse ti ascolteranno e ritorneranno dalla propria strada malvagia e mi pentirò della sventura che io sto meditando di recare a loro a causa della malvagità delle loro azioni.
4 Say to them, "Yahweh says this: If you will not listen to me and fol ow my Law which I have given you,	4 Dirai loro: Così dice il Signore: Se non mi darete ascolto, camminando nella mia legge che ho posto dinanzi a voi,
5 and pay attention to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have never tired of sending to you,although you never have paid attention,	5 ubbidendo alle parole dei miei servi, i profeti, che io mando a voi con tempestività e sollecitudine, se non li ascolterete,
6 I shal treat this Temple as I treated Shiloh, and make this city a curse for al the nations of the world." '	6 allora renderò questa casa come Silo e renderò questa città una maledizione fra tutte le nazioni della terra".
7 The priests and prophets and al the people heard Jeremiah say these words in the Temple of Yahweh.	7 Quando i sacerdoti e i profeti e tutto il popolo ebbero ascoltato Geremia che proferiva queste parole nella casa del Signore,
8 When Jeremiah had finished saying everything that Yahweh had ordered him to say to al the people,the priests and prophets and al the people seized hold of him and said, 'You will die for this!	8 avvenne che, avendo terminato Geremia di dire quanto gli aveva ordinato il Signore di riferire a tutto il popolo, i sacerdoti e i profeti e tutto il popolo lo arrestarono dicendo: "Devi morire!
9 Why have you made this prophecy in Yahweh's name, "This Temple will become like Shiloh, and thiscity become an uninhabited ruin"?' And the people all crowded in on Jeremiah in the Temple of Yahweh.	9 Perché profetizzi nel nome del Signore dicendo: "Come Silo sarà questa casa"? e "Questa città sarà distrutta e senza abitanti"?". Tutto il popolo si radunò attorno a Geremia nella casa del Signore.
10 Hearing of this, the chief men of Judah came up from the royal palace to the Temple of Yahweh andtook their seats at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Quando i prìncipi di Giuda udirono queste parole, dalla casa del re ascesero alla casa del Signore e si sedettero all'ingresso della Porta Nuova della casa del Signore.
11 The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the people, 'This man deserves to die,since he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'	11 Allora i sacerdoti e i profeti dissero ai prìncipi e a tutto il popolo: "Sentenza di morte merita quest'uomo, perché ha profetizzato contro questa città, come voi avete sentito con i vostri orecchi".
12 Jeremiah, however, replied to all the chief men and all the people as fol ows, 'Yahweh himself sentme to prophesy against this Temple and this city al the things you have heard.	12 Geremia rispose a tutti i prìncipi e a tutto il popolo, così: "Il Signore mi ha inviato a profetizzare contro questa casa e contro questa città tutto ciò che avete ascoltato.
13 So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh wilrelent about the disaster that he has decreed for you.	13 Ma ora migliorate le vostre vie e le vostre azioni e ascoltate la voce del Signore, Dio vostro, e il Signore si pentirà della sventura che ha pronunciato contro di voi.
14 For myself, I am, as you see, in your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me.	14 Quanto a me, eccomi nelle vostre mani; fate di me quel che è meglio agli occhi vostri e più giusto.
15 But be sure of this, that if you put me to death, you wil be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, onthis city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh has truly sent me to you to say al this for you to hear.'	15 Soltanto sappiate fermamente che se voi mi fate morire, un sangue innocente voi ponete sopra voi stessi, sopra questa città e sopra i suoi abitanti, poiché veramente il Signore mi ha inviato contro di voi a proferire ai vostri orecchi tutte queste parole".
16 The chief men and al the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve todie: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.'	16 Allora i prìncipi e tutto il popolo dissero ai sacerdoti e ai profeti: "Non c'è per quest'uomo sentenza di morte, perché ha parlato a noi nel nome del Signore, Dio nostro".
17 And some of the country's elders rose to address al the assembled people.	17 Ora, si erano alzati alcuni degli anziani del paese e dissero a tutta l'assemblea del popolo così:
18 'Micah of Moresheth,' they said, 'who prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, had this tosay to all the people of Judah, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Zion wil become ploughland, Jerusalem a heap ofrubble and the Temple Mount a wooded height."	18 "Michea il morastita stava profetizzando ai giorni di Ezechia, re di Giuda, e disse a tutto il popolo di Giuda: "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Sion come campo sarà arata e Gerusalemme diverrà rovine e il monte del tempio un'altura boscosa!".
19 'Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death for this? Did they not rather, fearingYahweh, plead with him, to such effect that Yahweh relented about the disaster which he had decreed for them?Are we now to burden our souls with such a crime?'	19 Lo fece forse condannare a morte Ezechia, re di Giuda, insieme a tutto Giuda? Forse che non temette il Signore e placò il volto del Signore e il Signore si pentì della sventura che aveva preannunciato contro di loro? Noi, invece, stiamo facendo un male grande contro noi stessi".
20 There was another man, too, who used to prophesy in Yahweh's name, Uriah son of Shemaiah, fromKiriath-Jearim. He prophesied exactly the same things against this city and this country as Jeremiah.	20 Ci fu ancora un uomo che profetizzava nel nome del Signore, Uria, figlio di Semaià, da Kiriat-Iearim; egli profetizzò contro questa città e contro questo paese, perfettamente come Geremia.
21 When King Jehoiakim with all his officers and all the chief men heard what he said, the king wasdetermined to put him to death. On hearing this, Uriah took fright and, fleeing, escaped to Egypt.	21 Il re Ioiakìm ascoltò, insieme a tutti i suoi ufficiali e tutti i prìncipi, le sue parole e cercò di metterlo a morte, ma Uria lo seppe ed ebbe timore; quindi fuggì ed entrò in Egitto.
22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan son of Achbor to Egypt with others,	22 Allora il re Ioiakìm inviò degli uomini in Egitto, Elnatàn, figlio di Acbor e altri con lui.
23 who brought Uriah back from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the swordand his body thrown into the common burial ground.	23 Costoro fecero uscire Uria dall'Egitto e lo ricondussero al re Ioiakìm che lo fece uccidere di spada e poi gettò il suo cadavere fra le tombe dei figli del popolo.
24 But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he was not handed over to the people tobe put to death.	24 Allora la mano di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn, fu a favore di Geremia, affinché non lo consegnassero in potere del popolo per farlo morire.
