Jeremiah 26

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiahfrom Yahweh,	1 Al comienzo del reinado de Joaquím, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, llegó esta palabra a Jeremías, de parte del Señor :
2 'Yahweh says this, "Stand in the court of the Temple of Yahweh. To al the people from the towns ofJudah who come to worship in the Temple of Yahweh you wil say everything I have ordered you to say, notomitting one syllable.	2 Así habla el Señor: Párate en el atrio de la Casa del Señor y di a toda la gente de las ciudades de Judá que vienen a postrarse en la Casa del Señor todas las palabras que yo te mandé decirles, sin omitir ni una sola.
3 Perhaps they wil listen and each turn from his evil way: if so, I shal relent and not bring the disaster onthem which I intend because of their misdeeds."	3 Tal vez escuchen y se conviertan de su mal camino; entonces yo me arrepentiré del mal que pienso hacerles a causa de la maldad de sus acciones.
4 Say to them, "Yahweh says this: If you will not listen to me and fol ow my Law which I have given you,	4 Tú les dirás: Así habla el Señor: Si ustedes no me escuchan ni caminan según la Ley que yo les propuse;
5 and pay attention to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have never tired of sending to you,although you never have paid attention,	5 si no escuchan las palabras de mis servidores los profetas, que yo les envío incansablemente y a quienes ustedes no han escuchado,
6 I shal treat this Temple as I treated Shiloh, and make this city a curse for al the nations of the world." '	6 entonces yo trataré a esta Casa como traté a Silo y haré de esta ciudad una maldición para todas las naciones de la tierra.
7 The priests and prophets and al the people heard Jeremiah say these words in the Temple of Yahweh.	7 Los sacerdotes, los profetas y todo el pueblo oyeron a Jeremías mientras él pronunciaba estas palabras en la Casa del Señor.
8 When Jeremiah had finished saying everything that Yahweh had ordered him to say to al the people,the priests and prophets and al the people seized hold of him and said, 'You will die for this!	8 Y apenas Jeremías terminó de decir todo lo que el Señor le había ordenado decir al pueblo, los sacerdotes y los profetas se le echaron encima, diciendo: «¡Vas a morir!
9 Why have you made this prophecy in Yahweh's name, "This Temple will become like Shiloh, and thiscity become an uninhabited ruin"?' And the people all crowded in on Jeremiah in the Temple of Yahweh.	9 Porque has profetizado en nombre del Señor, diciendo: Esta Casa será como Silo, y esta ciudad será arrasada y quedará deshabitada». Entonces todo el pueblo se amontonó alrededor de Jeremías den la Casa del Señor.
10 Hearing of this, the chief men of Judah came up from the royal palace to the Temple of Yahweh andtook their seats at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Al enterarse de esto, los jefes de Judá subieron de la casa del rey a la Casa del Señor, y se sentaron para el juicio a la entrada de la puerta Nueva de la Casa del Señor.
11 The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the people, 'This man deserves to die,since he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'	11 Los sacerdotes y los profetas dijeron a los jefes y a todo el pueblo: «Este hombre es reo de muerte, porque ha profetizado contra esta ciudad, como ustedes lo han escuchado con sus propios oídos».
12 Jeremiah, however, replied to all the chief men and all the people as fol ows, 'Yahweh himself sentme to prophesy against this Temple and this city al the things you have heard.	12 Pero Jeremías dijo a los jefes y a todo el pueblo: «El Señor es el que me envió a profetizar contra esta Casa y contra esta ciudad todas las palabras que ustedes han oído.
13 So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh wilrelent about the disaster that he has decreed for you.	13 Y ahora, enmienden su conducta y sus acciones, y escuchen la voz del Señor, su Dios, y el Señor se arrepentirá del mal con que los ha amenazado.
14 For myself, I am, as you see, in your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me.	14 En cuanto a mí, hagan conmigo lo que les parezca bueno y justo.
15 But be sure of this, that if you put me to death, you wil be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, onthis city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh has truly sent me to you to say al this for you to hear.'	15 Pero sepan que si ustedes me hacen morir, arrojan sangre inocente sobre ustedes mismo, sobre esta ciudad y sobre sus habitantes. Porque verdaderamente el Señor me ha enviado a ustedes para decirles todas estas palabras».
16 The chief men and al the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve todie: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.'	16 Los jefes y todo el pueblo dijeron a los sacerdotes y a los profetas: «Este hombre no es reo de muerte, porque nos ha hablado en nombre del Señor, nuestro Dios».
17 And some of the country's elders rose to address al the assembled people.	17 Entonces se levantaron algunos hombres de entre los ancianos del país, y dijeron a toda la asamblea del pueblo:
18 'Micah of Moresheth,' they said, 'who prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, had this tosay to all the people of Judah, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Zion wil become ploughland, Jerusalem a heap ofrubble and the Temple Mount a wooded height."	18 «Miqueas de Moréset profetizó en los días de Ezequías, rey de Judá, y dijo a todo el pueblo de Judá: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos: Sión será un campo arado, Jerusalén, un montón de ruinas, y la montaña del Templo, una altura boscosa.
19 'Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death for this? Did they not rather, fearingYahweh, plead with him, to such effect that Yahweh relented about the disaster which he had decreed for them?Are we now to burden our souls with such a crime?'	19 ¿Acaso Ezequías, rey de Judá, y todo Judá lo hicieron morir? ¿No temió él al Señor y aplacó el rostro del Señor, de suerte que el Señor se arrepintió del mal con que los había amenazado? Nosotros, en cambio, estamos por hacernos un daño enorme a nosotros mismos».
20 There was another man, too, who used to prophesy in Yahweh's name, Uriah son of Shemaiah, fromKiriath-Jearim. He prophesied exactly the same things against this city and this country as Jeremiah.	20 Hubo además otro hombre que profetizaba en nombre del Señor: Urías, hijo de Semaías, de Quiriat Iearím. El profetizó contra esta ciudad y contra este país en los mismos términos que Jeremías.
21 When King Jehoiakim with all his officers and all the chief men heard what he said, the king wasdetermined to put him to death. On hearing this, Uriah took fright and, fleeing, escaped to Egypt.	21 El rey Joaquím, todos sus guardias y los jefes oyeron sus palabras, y el rey intentó darle muerte. Al enterarse, Urías sintió temor y huyó a Egipto.
22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan son of Achbor to Egypt with others,	22 Pero el rey Joaquím envió a Egipto a Elnatán acompañado de algunos hombres.
23 who brought Uriah back from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the swordand his body thrown into the common burial ground.	23 Ellos sacaron a Urías de Egipto y lo llevaron ante el rey Joaquím, que lo hizo matar con la espada y arrojó su cadáver a la fosa común.
24 But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he was not handed over to the people tobe put to death.	24 Sin embargo, Ajicam, hijo de Safán, protegió a Jeremías e impidió que fuera entregado en manos del pueblo para ser ejecutado.
