Jeremiah 26

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiahfrom Yahweh,	1 No começo do reinado de Joaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, foi dirigida a Jeremias a palavra do Senhor nestes termos:
2 'Yahweh says this, "Stand in the court of the Temple of Yahweh. To al the people from the towns ofJudah who come to worship in the Temple of Yahweh you wil say everything I have ordered you to say, notomitting one syllable.	2 Eis o que disse o Senhor: coloca-te no átrio do templo e a toda a gente de Judá, que vier prosternar-se no templo do Senhor, repete todas as palavras que te ordenei dizer, sem deixar nenhuma.
3 Perhaps they wil listen and each turn from his evil way: if so, I shal relent and not bring the disaster onthem which I intend because of their misdeeds."	3 Talvez as ouçam eles e renunciem ao perverso comportamento. Arrepender-me-ei, então, dos males que cogito desencadear sobre eles por motivo da perversidade de sua vida.
4 Say to them, "Yahweh says this: If you will not listen to me and fol ow my Law which I have given you,	4 E então tu lhes dirás: eis o que diz o Senhor: Se não me escutardes, se não obedecerdes à lei que vos impus,
5 and pay attention to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have never tired of sending to you,although you never have paid attention,	5 e não ouvirdes as palavras dos profetas, meus servos, que não cessei de vos enviar continuamente, sem que delas vos importásseis,
6 I shal treat this Temple as I treated Shiloh, and make this city a curse for al the nations of the world." '	6 farei deste edifício o que fiz de Silo e desta cidade um exemplo que todos os povos da terra citarão em suas maldições.
7 The priests and prophets and al the people heard Jeremiah say these words in the Temple of Yahweh.	7 Os sacerdotes, os profetas e todo o povo ouviram Jeremias pronunciar essas palavras no templo.
8 When Jeremiah had finished saying everything that Yahweh had ordered him to say to al the people,the priests and prophets and al the people seized hold of him and said, 'You will die for this!	8 Mal, porém, acabara de repetir o que o Senhor lhe ordenara dizer ao povo, lançaram-se sobre ele os sacerdotes, os profetas e a multidão, exclamando: À morte!
9 Why have you made this prophecy in Yahweh's name, "This Temple will become like Shiloh, and thiscity become an uninhabited ruin"?' And the people all crowded in on Jeremiah in the Temple of Yahweh.	9 Por que proferes, em nome do Senhor, este oráculo: a este templo: o mesmo acontecerá que a Silo e se transformará em deserto sem habitantes esta cidade? Ajuntou-se então a multidão no templo em torno de Jeremias.
10 Hearing of this, the chief men of Judah came up from the royal palace to the Temple of Yahweh andtook their seats at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Ao saberem do que ocorria, acorreram do palácio real ao templo os oficiais de Judá e se postaram no umbral da Porta Nova do templo do Senhor.
11 The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the people, 'This man deserves to die,since he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'	11 Então, os sacerdotes e os profetas clamaram aos oficiais e à multidão: Este homem merece a morte porque profetizou contra esta cidade, como todos ouvistes com vossos próprios ouvidos.
12 Jeremiah, however, replied to all the chief men and all the people as fol ows, 'Yahweh himself sentme to prophesy against this Temple and this city al the things you have heard.	12 Jeremias, porém, retrucou aos oficiais e ao povo: Foi o Senhor quem me deu o encargo de proferir contra este povo e esta cidade os oráculos que ouvistes.
13 So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh wilrelent about the disaster that he has decreed for you.	13 Reformai, portanto, vossa vida e modo de agir, escutando a voz do Senhor, vosso Deus, a fim de que afaste de vós o mal de que vos ameaça.
14 For myself, I am, as you see, in your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me.	14 Quanto a mim entrego-me nas vossas mãos. Fazei de mim o que quiserdes e que melhor se vos afigure.
15 But be sure of this, that if you put me to death, you wil be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, onthis city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh has truly sent me to you to say al this for you to hear.'	15 Sabei, porém, que se me condenardes à morte, será de sangue inocente que maculareis esta cidade e seus habitantes; pois, na verdade, foi o Senhor quem me ordenou vos transmitisse estes oráculos.
16 The chief men and al the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve todie: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.'	16 Disseram, então, os oficiais e a multidão aos sacerdotes e profetas: Este homem não merece a morte! Foi em nome do Senhor, nosso Deus, que nos falou.
17 And some of the country's elders rose to address al the assembled people.	17 Ante a multidão tomaram a palavra alguns dos anciãos:
18 'Micah of Moresheth,' they said, 'who prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, had this tosay to all the people of Judah, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Zion wil become ploughland, Jerusalem a heap ofrubble and the Temple Mount a wooded height."	18 Miquéias de Morechet, disseram eles, que profetizava no tempo de Ezequias, rei de Judá, assim falou ao povo: isto diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Sião será como um campo lavrado. Jerusalém será um montão de escombros, e a colina do templo, um morro cheio de mato.
19 'Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death for this? Did they not rather, fearingYahweh, plead with him, to such effect that Yahweh relented about the disaster which he had decreed for them?Are we now to burden our souls with such a crime?'	19 Ezequias, rei de Judá, e o povo de Judá condenaram-no por isso à morte! Não temeram eles o Senhor? Não lhe imploraram o favor, a ponto de se arrepender do mal com que os ameaçava? E nós poderíamos arcar com a responsabilidade de tão grande crime?
20 There was another man, too, who used to prophesy in Yahweh's name, Uriah son of Shemaiah, fromKiriath-Jearim. He prophesied exactly the same things against this city and this country as Jeremiah.	20 Houve também um homem que proferia oráculos em nome do Senhor: Urias, filho de Semei, de Cariatiarim. Contra a cidade e o país anunciara os mesmos flagelos que Jeremias.
21 When King Jehoiakim with all his officers and all the chief men heard what he said, the king wasdetermined to put him to death. On hearing this, Uriah took fright and, fleeing, escaped to Egypt.	21 Chegaram suas palavras aos ouvidos do rei Joaquim e de seus oficiais e chefes, tendo o rei procurado meios de condená-lo à morte. Urias, informado do que se passava, teve medo e fugiu, refugiando-se no Egito.
22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan son of Achbor to Egypt with others,	22 Mas Joaquim enviou ao Egito Elnatã, filho de Acobor, acompanhado de alguns homens.
23 who brought Uriah back from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the swordand his body thrown into the common burial ground.	23 Estes trouxeram o profeta do Egito e entregaram-no ao rei, o qual o mandou degolar, jogando seu cadáver na fossa comum.
24 But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he was not handed over to the people tobe put to death.	24 Contudo, a influência de Aicã, filho de Safã, protegeu Jeremias, impedindo que fosse entregue ao povo e condenado à morte.
