Jeremiah 25

1 The word that was addressed to Jeremiah about al the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakimson of Josiah, king of Judah (that is to say the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon).	1 Parola indirizzata a Geremia relativamente a tutto il popolo di Giuda, l'anno quarto di Ioachim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda (che è l'anno primo di Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia);
2 The prophet Jeremiah proclaimed it before al the people of Judah and al the inhabitants of Jerusalem:	2 parola detta dal profeta Geremia a tutto il popolo di Giuda e a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme in questi termini:
3 'For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until today, theword of Yahweh has been addressed to me and I have never tired of speaking to you (but you have not listened.	3 Dall'anno tredicesimo di Giosia, figlio di Amori, re di Giuda, fino a questo giorno, è già ventitré anni che la parola del Signore è indirizzata a me, e che io parlo a voi, levandomi di notte per parlarvi; ma non avete dato ascolto.
4 Furthermore, Yahweh has untiringly sent you al his servants the prophets, but you have not listened orpaid attention).	4 Il Signore molto per tempo vi ha inviati tutti i suoi servitori, i profeti, li ha mandati, ma voi non li siete stati a sentire e non avete1 piegato gli orecchi per ascoltarli.
5 The message was this, "Turn back, each one of you, from your evil behaviour and your evil actions,and you wil go on living on the soil Yahweh long ago gave to you and your ancestors for ever.	5 Quando egli vi diceva: Si converta ognuno di voi dalla sua mala vita, dalle pessime sue inclinazioni, se volete abitare per tutti i secoli nella terra data dal Signore a voi e ai vostri padri;
6 (And do not fol ow other gods to serve and worship them, do not provoke me with things youyourselves have made, and then I shall not harm you.)	6 non andate dietro a dèi stranieri, a adorarli e servirli, non m'irritate colle opere delle vostre mani; allora io non v'affliggerò;
7 But you have not listened to me (Yahweh declares, so that you have now provoked me with things youyourselves have made, and thus harmed yourselves)."	7 voi non avete dato retta — dice il Signore, — siete giunti ad irritarmi colle opere delle vostre mani, per vostra sciagura.
8 'So-this is what Yahweh Sabaoth says, "Since you have not listened to my words,	8 E per questo così parla il Signore degli eserciti: Perchè voi non avete ascoltate le mie parole,
9 I shal now send for al the families of the north (Yahweh declares, that is, for Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, my servant) and bring them down on this country and its inhabitants (and on al these surroundingnations); I shal curse them with utter destruction and make them an object of horror, of scorn, and ruin them for ever.	9 ecco che io prenderò tutte le genti del settentrione — dice il Signore — e le manderò con Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, mio servo: le farò venire sopra questa terra, contro i suoi abitanti e contro le nazioni che la circondano, che io ucciderò e ridurrò ad essere spavento e scherno, eterni deserti.
10 From them I shall banish the shouts of rejoicing and mirth, the voices of bridegroom and bride, thesound of the handmil and the light of the lamp;	10 Io le farò sparir di mezzo a loro il grido della gioia, il grido della letizia, i canti dello sposo e i canti della sposa, il rumore della macina e il lume della lucerna.
11 and this whole country will be reduced to ruin and desolation, and these nations will be enslaved tothe king of Babylon for seventy years.	11 Tutto questo paese diverrà spaventoso deserto; e tutte queste nazioni serviranno al re di Babilonia per settanta anni.
12 (But when the seventy years are over, I shall punish the king of Babylon and that nation, Yahwehdeclares, for the wrong they have done, that is, the country of the Chaldaeans, and make it desolate for ever),	12 E passati i settanta anni, io visiterò il re di Babilonia, e quella nazione, e la loro iniquità; e la terra dei Caldei — dice il Signore — la ridurrò ad eterno deserto.
13 and against that country I shal perform al the words with which I have threatened it, that is,everything written in this book." '	13 E adempirò su quella terra tutte le mie parole, da me pronunziate contro di lei, tutto ciò che è scritto in questo libro e ciò che Geremia ha predetto contro tutte le nazioni.
14 What Jeremiah prophesied against al the nations. ('For these in their turn are to be enslaved topowerful nations and great kings, and I shal pay them back as their deeds and handiwork deserve.')	14 Perché hanno loro servito, pur essendo nazioni numerose e grandi re, ad essi ancora io renderò quanto si meritano e secondo le opere delle loro mani.
15 For Yahweh, the God of Israel, said this to me, 'Take this cup of the wine of wrath and make al thenations to whom I send you drink it;	15 Ecco quanto dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: « Prendi dalla mia mano questa coppa di vino del furore, e danne a bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali ti manderò.
16 they wil drink and reel and lose their wits, because of the sword I am sending among them.'	16 Ed esse dopo aver bevuto saranno agitate, diventeranno folli davanti alla spada che io manderò in mezzo ad esse.
17 I took the cup from Yahweh's hand and made al the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink it	17 Ed io presi la coppa dalla mano del Signore e la feci bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali mi aveva mandato il Signore:
18 (Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and its chief men, to make them a ruin, an object ofhorror and derision and a curse, as is the case today):	18 a Gerusalemme e alle città di Giuda, ai suoi re, ai suoi principi per abbandonarli alla desolazione, allo scherno, alla maledizione -come oggi avviene; —
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officials, his chief men and al his people,	19 a Faraone, re d'Egitto, ai suoi servi, ai suoi principi, a tutto il suo popolo;
20 with the whole conglomeration of peoples there (al the kings of the country of Uz); al the kings of thecountry of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron and what is stil left of Ashdod;	20 e a tutti in generale: e a tutti i re della terra di Ausite, e a tutti i re della terra dei Filistei; ad Ascalona, a Gaza, ad Accaron, ai resti di Azoto;
21 Edom, Moab and the Ammonites;	21 e all'Idumea, a Moab, ai figli d'Ammon;
22 (all) the kings of Tyre, (all) the kings of Sidon, the kings of the island across the sea;	22 e a tutti i re di Tiro, a tutti i re di Sidone, a tutti i re delle isole di là dal mare;
23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, al the people with shaven temples;	23 e a Dedan, a Tema, a Buz, e a tutti quelli che si tosano a tondo i capelli;
24 al the kings of Arabia (and all the kings of the conglomeration of peoples) who live in the desert	24 e a tutti i re dell'Arabia, e a tutti i re dell'Occidente che abitano il deserto,
25 (all the kings of Zimri), all the kings of Elam, and al the kings of Media;	25 e a tutti i re di Zambri, e a tutti i re di Elam, e a tutti i re dei Medi;
26 al the kings of the north, near and far, one after another: in short, all the kingdoms on the face of theearth. (As for the king of Sheshak, he wil drink last of all.)	26 ed anche a tutti i re del settentrione, vicini e lontani, all'uno dopo l'altro, e a tutti i regni della terra, quanti ne sono sulla sua superficie, e il re di Sesac berrà dopo di loro.
27 'You wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Drink! Get drunk! Vomit! Fall,never to rise again, before the sword that I am sending among you!"	27 E tu loro dirai: — Ecco quanto dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Bevete, ubriacatevi, vomitate, cascate per non più rialzarvi, davanti alla spada che io manderò in mezzo a voi.
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, you wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth saysthis: You must drink!	28 E se non vorrano ricevere dalla tua mano la coppa per bere, dirai loro: Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti: — Voi berrete in tutti i modi,
29 Look, for a start, I am bringing disaster on the city that bears my name, so are you likely to gounpunished? You certainly wil not go unpunished, for next I shal summon a sword against al the inhabitants ofthe land, Yahweh declares."	29 perchè ecco io comincerò dalla città in cui è invocato il mio nome a dare castighi, e voi come innocenti, resterete impuniti? Non resterete impuniti, perchè io chiamo la spada contro tutti gli abitanti della terra — dice il Signore degli eserciti.
30 'For your part, you are to prophesy al these words to them. Say to them: "Yahweh roars from on high,he thunders from his holy dwel ing-place, loudly he roars at his own fold, shouts aloud like those who tread thegrape at all the inhabitants of the land.	30 E tu profetizzerai ad essi tutte queste cose, e dirai loro: Il Signore ruggirà dall'alto, dalla sua santa dimora farà sentir la sua voce; ruggirà fortemente contro il luogo della sua gloria, si canterà il canto dei pigiatori d'uva contro tutti gli abitanti della terra.
31 The noise resounds to the remotest parts of the earth. For Yahweh is indicting the nations, arraigningal humanity for judgement; the wicked he assigns to the sword, Yahweh declares.	31 Il rumore giungerà sino agli ultimi confini della terra, perchè il Signore, entra in giudizio colle nazioni, entra in giudizio con ogni mortale: gli empi li ho abbandonati alla spada — dice il Signore.—
32 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Look, disaster is spreading from nation to nation, a mighty tempest isrising from the far ends of the earth.	32 Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Ecco che il castigo passerà di nazione in nazione, una gran tempesta sorgerà dall'estremità della terra,
33 "Those slaughtered by Yahweh that day wil be scattered across the world from end to end. No dirgewil be raised for them; no one wil gather them or bury them; they will stay lying on the surface like dung.	33 e gli uccisi dal Signore in quel giorno saran da un'estremità della terra all'altra, non saran nè pianti, nè raccolti, nè sepolti, giaceranno sopra la faccia della terra come concime.
34 "Howl, shepherds, shriek, roll on the ground, you lords of the flock, for your days have come to beslaughtered and to be scattered, and like a choice vase you will fal .	34 Urlate, pastori, alzate le strida, copritevi di cenere, o capi del gregge, perchè son finiti i vostri giorni per la strage, per la vostra distruzione, e andrete per terra come vasi preziosi.
35 No refuge then for the shepherds, no escape for the lords of the flock!	35 Non ci sarà possibilità di fuggire per i pastori, non possibilità di salvarsi per i capi del gregge.
36 Listen! A shriek from the shepherds, a howl from the lords of the flock! For Yahweh has laid theirpasture waste,	36 Voci di strida dei pastori, urli dei capi del gregge, perchè il Signore ha distrutti i loro pascoli.
37 the peaceful sheepfolds are reduced to silence owing to Yahweh's furious anger.	37 E tacquero i campi della pace davanti all'ira furibonda del Signore:
38 The lion has left his lair and their country is a wasteland now, owing to the devastating fury, owing tohis furious anger." '	38 qual leone egli ha lasciata la sua dimora, e la loro terra è ridotta a deserto davanti all'ira della colomba, davanti all'ira furibonda del Signore».
