Jeremiah 25

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The word that was addressed to Jeremiah about al the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakimson of Josiah, king of Judah (that is to say the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon).	1 Parole concernant tout le peuple de Juda, qui fut adressée à Jérémie la quatrième année de Joiaqim,fils de Josias, roi de Juda (c'est-à-dire la première année de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone).
2 The prophet Jeremiah proclaimed it before al the people of Judah and al the inhabitants of Jerusalem:	2 Le prophète Jérémie la prononça devant tout le peuple de Juda et tous les habitants de Jérusalem.
3 'For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until today, theword of Yahweh has been addressed to me and I have never tired of speaking to you (but you have not listened.	3 Depuis la treizième année de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, jusqu'à aujourd'hui, voici 23 ans quela parole de Yahvé m'est adressée et que, sans me lasser, je vous parle (mais vous n'avez pas écouté.
4 Furthermore, Yahweh has untiringly sent you al his servants the prophets, but you have not listened orpaid attention).	4 De plus Yahvé, sans se lasser, vous a envoyé tous ses serviteurs les prophètes, mais vous n'avezpas écouté ni prêté l'oreille pour entendre).
5 The message was this, "Turn back, each one of you, from your evil behaviour and your evil actions,and you wil go on living on the soil Yahweh long ago gave to you and your ancestors for ever.	5 Cette parole était: Revenez donc chacun de votre voie mauvaise et de la perversité de vos actions;alors vous habiterez sur le sol que Yahvé vous a donné, à vous et à vos pères, depuis toujours jusqu'à toujours.
6 (And do not fol ow other gods to serve and worship them, do not provoke me with things youyourselves have made, and then I shall not harm you.)	6 (Et n'allez pas suivre d'autres dieux pour les servir et vous prosterner devant eux; ne m'irritez paspar les oeuvres de vos mains, et alors je ne vous ferai aucun mal.)
7 But you have not listened to me (Yahweh declares, so that you have now provoked me with things youyourselves have made, and thus harmed yourselves)."	7 Mais vous ne m'avez pas écouté (oracle de Yahvé! en sorte que vous m'avez irrité par les oeuvresde vos mains pour votre malheur).
8 'So-this is what Yahweh Sabaoth says, "Since you have not listened to my words,	8 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot: Puisque vous n'avez pas écouté mes paroles,
9 I shal now send for al the families of the north (Yahweh declares, that is, for Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, my servant) and bring them down on this country and its inhabitants (and on al these surroundingnations); I shal curse them with utter destruction and make them an object of horror, of scorn, and ruin them for ever.	9 voici que j'envoie chercher toutes les familles du Nord (oracle de Yahvé! autour deNabuchodonosor roi de Babylone, mon serviteur) et je les amènerai contre ce pays et ses habitants (et contretoutes ces nations d'alentour); je les frapperai d'anathème et en ferai un objet de stupeur, une risée, des ruinespour toujours.
10 From them I shall banish the shouts of rejoicing and mirth, the voices of bridegroom and bride, thesound of the handmil and the light of the lamp;	10 Je ferai disparaître chez eux les cris de joie et d'allégresse, les appels du fiancé et de la fiancée, lebruit des deux meules et la lumière de la lampe.
11 and this whole country will be reduced to ruin and desolation, and these nations will be enslaved tothe king of Babylon for seventy years.	11 Tout ce pays sera réduit en ruine et en désolation, et ces nations seront asservies au roi deBabylone pendant 70 ans.
12 (But when the seventy years are over, I shall punish the king of Babylon and that nation, Yahwehdeclares, for the wrong they have done, that is, the country of the Chaldaeans, and make it desolate for ever),	12 (Mais quand seront accomplis les 70 ans, je visiterai le roi de Babylone et cette nation - oracle deYahvé - à cause de leur crime, ainsi que le pays des Chaldéens, pour en faire une désolation éternelle.)
13 and against that country I shal perform al the words with which I have threatened it, that is,everything written in this book." '	13 Je ferai s'accomplir contre ce pays toutes les paroles que j'ai prononcées contre lui, tout ce qui estécrit dans ce livre. Ce qu'a prophétisé Jérémie contre toutes les nations.
14 What Jeremiah prophesied against al the nations. ('For these in their turn are to be enslaved topowerful nations and great kings, and I shal pay them back as their deeds and handiwork deserve.')	14 (Car elles aussi seront asservies à des nations puissantes et à de grands rois, et je leur rendraiselon leurs actes et selon l'oeuvre de leurs mains.)
15 For Yahweh, the God of Israel, said this to me, 'Take this cup of the wine of wrath and make al thenations to whom I send you drink it;	15 Car Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, me parla ainsi: Prends de ma main cette coupe de vin de colère et fais-la boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles je vais t'envoyer;
16 they wil drink and reel and lose their wits, because of the sword I am sending among them.'	16 elles boiront, chancelleront et deviendront folles, à cause de l'épée que je vais envoyer au milieud'elles.
17 I took the cup from Yahweh's hand and made al the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink it	17 Je pris la coupe de la main de Yahvé et la fis boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles Yahvém'avait envoyé:
18 (Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and its chief men, to make them a ruin, an object ofhorror and derision and a curse, as is the case today):	18 (Jérusalem et les villes de Juda, ses rois et ses princes, pour en faire une ruine, un objet destupeur, une risée et une malédiction, comme aujourd'hui même.
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officials, his chief men and al his people,	19 Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, avec ses serviteurs, ses princes et tout son peuple,
20 with the whole conglomeration of peoples there (al the kings of the country of Uz); al the kings of thecountry of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron and what is stil left of Ashdod;	20 ainsi que tout le ramassis des étrangers (tous les rois du pays de Uç); tous les rois du pays desPhilistins, Ashqelôn, Gaza, Eqrôn et ce qui reste encore d'Ashdod;
21 Edom, Moab and the Ammonites;	21 Edom, Moab et les fils d'Ammon;
22 (all) the kings of Tyre, (all) the kings of Sidon, the kings of the island across the sea;	22 (tous) les rois de Tyr, (tous) les rois de Sidon, les rois de l'île qui est au-delà de la mer;
23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, al the people with shaven temples;	23 Dedân, Téma, Buz, tous les hommes aux tempes rasées,
24 al the kings of Arabia (and all the kings of the conglomeration of peoples) who live in the desert	24 tous les rois de l'Arabie (et tous les rois du ramassis des étrangers) qui habitent le désert.
25 (all the kings of Zimri), all the kings of Elam, and al the kings of Media;	25 (Tous les rois de Zimri), tous les rois d'Elam et tous les rois de Médie;
26 al the kings of the north, near and far, one after another: in short, all the kingdoms on the face of theearth. (As for the king of Sheshak, he wil drink last of all.)	26 tous les rois du Nord, proches ou lointains, l'un après l'autre, et tous les royaumes qui sont sur laterre. (Quant au roi de Shéshak, il boira après eux.)
27 'You wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Drink! Get drunk! Vomit! Fall,never to rise again, before the sword that I am sending among you!"	27 Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: Buvez! Enivrez-vous! Vomissez!Tombez sans pouvoir vous relever, devant l'épée que je vais envoyer au milieu de vous.
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, you wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth saysthis: You must drink!	28 Si jamais ils refusent d'accepter de ta main la coupe à boire, tu leur diras: Ainsi parle YahvéSabaot. Vous boirez!
29 Look, for a start, I am bringing disaster on the city that bears my name, so are you likely to gounpunished? You certainly wil not go unpunished, for next I shal summon a sword against al the inhabitants ofthe land, Yahweh declares."	29 Car voici: c'est par la ville qui porte mon nom que j'inaugure le malheur, et vous seriez épargnés?Non! vous ne serez pas épargnés, car j'appelle moi-même l'épée contre tous les habitants de la terre, oracle deYahvé Sabaot.
30 'For your part, you are to prophesy al these words to them. Say to them: "Yahweh roars from on high,he thunders from his holy dwel ing-place, loudly he roars at his own fold, shouts aloud like those who tread thegrape at all the inhabitants of the land.	30 Et toi, tu leur annonceras toutes ces paroles, tu leur diras: Yahvé rugit d'en haut, de sa demeuresainte il élève la voix, il rugit avec vigueur contre son pacage, il pousse le cri des fouleurs à la cuve contre tousles habitants de la terre.
31 The noise resounds to the remotest parts of the earth. For Yahweh is indicting the nations, arraigningal humanity for judgement; the wicked he assigns to the sword, Yahweh declares.	31 Le tumulte en parvient jusqu'au bout de la terre. Car Yahvé ouvre le procès des nations, il instituele jugement de toute chair; les impies, il les livre à l'épée, oracle de Yahvé.
32 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Look, disaster is spreading from nation to nation, a mighty tempest isrising from the far ends of the earth.	32 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot. Voici: le malheur s'étend de nation en nation, un grand ouragan s'élèvedes extrémités de la terre.
33 "Those slaughtered by Yahweh that day wil be scattered across the world from end to end. No dirgewil be raised for them; no one wil gather them or bury them; they will stay lying on the surface like dung.	33 Il y aura des victimes de Yahvé en ce jour-là, d'un bout de la terre à l'autre; on ne les pleurera pas,on ne les ramassera pas, on ne les enterrera pas. Ils resteront sur le sol en guise de fumier.
34 "Howl, shepherds, shriek, roll on the ground, you lords of the flock, for your days have come to beslaughtered and to be scattered, and like a choice vase you will fal .	34 Hurlez, pasteurs, criez, roulez-vous à terre, chefs du troupeau, car vos jours sont à point pour lemassacre et pour votre dispersion, vous tomberez comme un vase de choix.
35 No refuge then for the shepherds, no escape for the lords of the flock!	35 Plus de refuge pour les pasteurs, ni d'évasion pour les chefs du troupeau.
36 Listen! A shriek from the shepherds, a howl from the lords of the flock! For Yahweh has laid theirpasture waste,	36 Clameur des pasteurs, hurlement des chefs du troupeau! Car Yahvé a dévasté leur pacage,
37 the peaceful sheepfolds are reduced to silence owing to Yahweh's furious anger.	37 les paisibles pâturages sont réduits au silence à cause de l'ardente colère de Yahvé!
38 The lion has left his lair and their country is a wasteland now, owing to the devastating fury, owing tohis furious anger." '	38 Le lion a quitté son repaire et leur pays est devenu un objet de stupeur, à cause de l'ardeurdévastatrice, à cause de l'ardeur de sa colère.
