Jeremiah 25

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 The word that was addressed to Jeremiah about al the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakimson of Josiah, king of Judah (that is to say the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon).	1 Voici la parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie en la quatrième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda; on était dans la première année de Nabukodonozor roi de Babylone.
2 The prophet Jeremiah proclaimed it before al the people of Judah and al the inhabitants of Jerusalem:	2 Le prophète Jérémie prononça ces paroles devant le peuple de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem.
3 'For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until today, theword of Yahweh has been addressed to me and I have never tired of speaking to you (but you have not listened.	3 Depuis la treizième année de Josias fils d’Amon, roi de Juda, et jusqu’à ce jour, soit pendant 23 ans, la parole de Yahvé m’a été adressée; je vous l’ai dite sans me lasser, mais vous n’avez pas écouté.
4 Furthermore, Yahweh has untiringly sent you al his servants the prophets, but you have not listened orpaid attention).	4 (Yahvé aussi, sans se lasser, vous a envoyé ses serviteurs les prophètes, mais vous n’avez pas écouté, vous n’avez pas prêté l’oreille pour entendre.)
5 The message was this, "Turn back, each one of you, from your evil behaviour and your evil actions,and you wil go on living on the soil Yahweh long ago gave to you and your ancestors for ever.	5 Voici ce qu’était cette parole: “Que chacun revienne de sa mauvaise conduite et de ses actions mauvaises; alors vous habiterez sur la terre que Yahvé vous a donnée, à vous et à vos pères, depuis toujours et pour toujours.
6 (And do not fol ow other gods to serve and worship them, do not provoke me with things youyourselves have made, and then I shall not harm you.)	6 Mais ne suivez pas d’autres dieux, ne les servez pas, ne vous prosternez pas devant eux; ne me mettez pas en colère avec ces choses qui sont sorties de vos mains, et moi, je ne vous ferai pas de mal.
7 But you have not listened to me (Yahweh declares, so that you have now provoked me with things youyourselves have made, and thus harmed yourselves)."	7 Mais vous ne m’avez pas écouté - parole de Yahvé. Vous m’avez irrité pour votre malheur avec ces choses sorties de vos mains.
8 'So-this is what Yahweh Sabaoth says, "Since you have not listened to my words,	8 C’est pourquoi, voici ce qu’a dit Yahvé Sabaot: Parce que vous n’avez pas écouté mes paroles,
9 I shal now send for al the families of the north (Yahweh declares, that is, for Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, my servant) and bring them down on this country and its inhabitants (and on al these surroundingnations); I shal curse them with utter destruction and make them an object of horror, of scorn, and ruin them for ever.	9 j’envoie chercher un peuple du nord. Je le fais venir contre ce pays et ses habitants, et je leur jette la malédiction, et pour toujours ce sera la désolation, ce seront des ruines, juste de quoi se moquer.
10 From them I shall banish the shouts of rejoicing and mirth, the voices of bridegroom and bride, thesound of the handmil and the light of the lamp;	10 Je ferai disparaître de chez eux le bruit des fêtes et de la joie, la voix de l’époux et de l’épouse, le bruit de la meule et la lumière de la lampe.
11 and this whole country will be reduced to ruin and desolation, and these nations will be enslaved tothe king of Babylon for seventy years.	11 Tout ce pays ne sera plus que ruines et désolation, et ils seront esclaves parmi les nations pour 70 ans.
12 (But when the seventy years are over, I shall punish the king of Babylon and that nation, Yahwehdeclares, for the wrong they have done, that is, the country of the Chaldaeans, and make it desolate for ever),	12 Mais quand s’achèveront ces 70 années, je demanderai des comptes à la nation des Kaldéens et j’en ferai une ruine éternelle.
13 and against that country I shal perform al the words with which I have threatened it, that is,everything written in this book." '	13 Ainsi j’accomplirai contre ce pays toutes les paroles que j’ai prononcées contre lui, tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre, tout ce que Jérémie a prophétisé sur toutes les nations.
14 What Jeremiah prophesied against al the nations. ('For these in their turn are to be enslaved topowerful nations and great kings, and I shal pay them back as their deeds and handiwork deserve.')	14 Car de grandes nations, avec de grands rois, les soumettront à leur tour, et je leur rendrai selon leurs actes, selon l’œuvre de leurs mains.
15 For Yahweh, the God of Israel, said this to me, 'Take this cup of the wine of wrath and make al thenations to whom I send you drink it;	15 Voici ce que Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, me dit: Reçois de ma main cette coupe de vin, cette coupe de ma colère, et fais-la boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles je t’enverrai.
16 they wil drink and reel and lose their wits, because of the sword I am sending among them.'	16 Quand elles auront bu, elles trébucheront et seront prises de vertige ( ).
17 I took the cup from Yahweh's hand and made al the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink it	17 Alors je pris la coupe de la main de Yahvé et je la fis boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles Yahvé m’envoyait:
18 (Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and its chief men, to make them a ruin, an object ofhorror and derision and a curse, as is the case today):	18 (à Jérusalem et aux villes de Juda, comme à ses rois et à ses chefs, pour qu’elles deviennent une solitude, une ruine, un objet de moquerie).
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officials, his chief men and al his people,	19 Je la fis boire à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, à ses serviteurs, à ses chefs et à tout son peuple,
20 with the whole conglomeration of peoples there (al the kings of the country of Uz); al the kings of thecountry of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron and what is stil left of Ashdod;	20 et à tous les gens de l’ouest. Puis je la passai ( ) aux rois du pays des Philistins, Ashkélon, Gaza, Ékron, et ce qui reste encore d’Ashdod.
21 Edom, Moab and the Ammonites;	21 Puis à Édom, Moab et les fils d’Ammon,
22 (all) the kings of Tyre, (all) the kings of Sidon, the kings of the island across the sea;	22 les rois de Tyr, les rois de Sidon, les rois des îles qui sont au-delà de la mer,
23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, al the people with shaven temples;	23 Dédan, Téma, Bouz, tous les hommes aux tempes rasées,
24 al the kings of Arabia (and all the kings of the conglomeration of peoples) who live in the desert	24 ( ) qui habitent le désert.
25 (all the kings of Zimri), all the kings of Elam, and al the kings of Media;	25 Puis je la fis boire aux rois de Zimri, les rois d’Élam et de Médie,
26 al the kings of the north, near and far, one after another: in short, all the kingdoms on the face of theearth. (As for the king of Sheshak, he wil drink last of all.)	26 les rois du nord, proches ou lointains, l’un après l’autre, et tous les royaumes de la terre ( ).
27 'You wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Drink! Get drunk! Vomit! Fall,never to rise again, before the sword that I am sending among you!"	27 Tu leur diras: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Buvez, enivrez-vous, vomissez, tombez et ne vous relevez plus quand vous verrez l’épée que j’envoie contre vous.”
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, you wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth saysthis: You must drink!	28 Et s’ils refusent de prendre de ta main cette coupe à boire, tu leur diras: C’est un ordre de Yahvé Sabaot: vous devez boire!
29 Look, for a start, I am bringing disaster on the city that bears my name, so are you likely to gounpunished? You certainly wil not go unpunished, for next I shal summon a sword against al the inhabitants ofthe land, Yahweh declares."	29 Si j’ai fait venir le malheur d’abord sur la ville que protège mon Nom, croyez-vous que vous, vous serez épargnés? Certainement pas, vous ne serez pas épargnés, car moi-même j’appelle l’épée contre tous les habitants de la terre.
30 'For your part, you are to prophesy al these words to them. Say to them: "Yahweh roars from on high,he thunders from his holy dwel ing-place, loudly he roars at his own fold, shouts aloud like those who tread thegrape at all the inhabitants of the land.	30 Tu leur annonceras toutes ces paroles et tu leur diras: Yahvé a rugi, du haut de sa sainte Demeure il fait entendre sa voix. Il pousse un rugissement contre son héritage et contre tous les habitants de la terre. Il pousse des cris comme ceux qui piétinent le raisin,
31 The noise resounds to the remotest parts of the earth. For Yahweh is indicting the nations, arraigningal humanity for judgement; the wicked he assigns to the sword, Yahweh declares.	31 le bruit en est arrivé jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre. Yahvé est en procès avec les nations, il entre en jugement avec tout homme, il livre les méchants à l’épée - parole de Yahvé.
32 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Look, disaster is spreading from nation to nation, a mighty tempest isrising from the far ends of the earth.	32 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot: Regardez, le malheur gagne de nation en nation, un ouragan terrible s’est levé, qui nous vient des extrémités de la terre.
33 "Those slaughtered by Yahweh that day wil be scattered across the world from end to end. No dirgewil be raised for them; no one wil gather them or bury them; they will stay lying on the surface like dung.	33 Les victimes de Yahvé tomberont ce jour-là, d’un bout à l’autre de la terre; on ne les ramassera pas, on ne les enterrera pas; elles resteront comme du fumier sur le sol.
34 "Howl, shepherds, shriek, roll on the ground, you lords of the flock, for your days have come to beslaughtered and to be scattered, and like a choice vase you will fal .	34 Pasteurs, lamentez-vous et criez! Roulez-vous par terre, maîtres du troupeau! Car c’est votre tour d’aller à la boucherie et de tomber comme les bêtes les plus belles.
35 No refuge then for the shepherds, no escape for the lords of the flock!	35 Il n’y a pas d’échappatoire pour les pasteurs, pas de fuite possible pour les maîtres du troupeau.
36 Listen! A shriek from the shepherds, a howl from the lords of the flock! For Yahweh has laid theirpasture waste,	36 Les pasteurs poussent des cris, les maîtres du troupeau se lamentent, car Yahvé a ravagé leurs prairies
37 the peaceful sheepfolds are reduced to silence owing to Yahweh's furious anger.	37 et le silence est tombé sur les paisibles pâturages.
38 The lion has left his lair and their country is a wasteland now, owing to the devastating fury, owing tohis furious anger." '	38 Le lion est sorti de son repaire et leur pays n’est plus que ruines sous le feu du châtiment.
