Jeremiah 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah on the occasion of the drought.	1 Parola del Signore rivolta a Geremia, in occasione della siccità:
2 'Judah is in mourning, her towns are pining, sinking to the ground; a cry goes up from Jerusalem.	2 Giuda è in lutto e le sue porte sono languenti, giacciono a terra e il grido di Gerusalemme sale!
3 The nobles send their servants for water, they come to the water-tanks, find no water, and return withtheir pitchers empty. Dismayed and bewildered, they cover their heads.	3 I loro nobili mandano i giovani a cercare acqua: giungono alle cisterne ma non trovano acqua; ritornano con i loro vasi vuoti; si vergognano, si confondono e coprono la loro testa.
4 Because the soil is al cracked since the country has had no rain; the farmers are dismayed, they covertheir heads.	4 Il suolo ha cessato di produrre, poiché non c'è più pioggia nel paese; si vergognano gli agricoltori, coprono la loro testa.
5 Even the doe in the countryside giving birth abandons her young, for there is no grass;	5 Perfino la cerva del campo partorisce e abbandona perché non c'è erba.
6 the wild donkeys standing on the bare heights gasp for air like jackals: their eyes grow dim for lack ofpasture.'	6 Gli onagri s'arrestano sulle alture, aspirano aria come sciacalli; s'illanguidiscono i loro occhi perché non c'è pascolo.
7 Although our sins witness against us, Yahweh, for your name's sake, intervene! Yes, our acts ofinfidelity have been many, we have sinned against you!	7 Se le nostre iniquità testimoniano contro di noi, Signore, agisci a causa del tuo nome, perché si son moltiplicate le nostre ribellioni, contro di te abbiamo peccato.
8 Yahweh, hope of Israel, its Saviour in time of distress, why are you like a stranger in this country, like atravel er staying only for one night?	8 O speranza d'Israele, suo salvatore in tempo d'angustia, perché sei come un pellegrino nel paese e come un viandante che s'arresta solo a pernottare?
9 Why are you like someone bemused, like a warrior who has no power to rescue? And yet, Yahweh,you are among us, we are called by your name. Do not desert us!	9 Perché sei come un uomo smarrito, come un eroe che non riesce a salvare? Eppure tu sei in mezzo a noi, Signore, e il tuo nome su di noi s'invoca! Non abbandonarci!
10 Yahweh says this about this people, 'They take such pleasure in darting hither and thither, theycannot restrain their feet! But Yahweh takes pleasure in them no longer; now he wil keep their guilt in mind andpunish their sins.'	10 Così dice il Signore a questo popolo: "Veramente amano girovagare, non trattengono i loro piedi! Perciò il Signore non li gradisce; ora ricorda le loro iniquità e punisce i loro peccati".
11 Yahweh then said to me, 'Do not intercede for this people or their welfare.	11 Il Signore mi disse: "Non intercedere per questo popolo, per la loro felicità.
12 If they fast, I wil not listen to their plea; if they offer burnt offerings and cereal offerings I wil notaccept them. Rather, I shal make an end of them by sword, famine and plague.'	12 Anche se digiunassero io non ascolterei la loro supplica e se offrissero olocausti e sacrifici pacifici io non mi compiacerei; piuttosto con la spada e con la fame e con la peste io li divorerei".
13 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,' I answered, 'here are the prophets telling them, "You will not see the sword,famine wil not touch you; I promise you true peace in this place." '	13 Io dissi: "Ah, Signore Dio! Ecco: i profeti dicono loro: "Non gusterete la spada e la fame non arriverà, ma pace vera vi sarà in questo luogo".
14 Then Yahweh said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying lies in my name; I have not sent them, Igave them no orders, I never spoke to them. Delusive visions, hol ow predictions, daydreams of their own, that iswhat they prophesy to you.	14 Il Signore mi disse: "Menzogna han profetizzato i profeti nel mio nome! Io non li ho inviati, né ho dato loro ordine e non ho parlato loro. Visioni menzognere, divinazioni vane e inganno del loro cuore essi han profetizzato a voi.
15 Therefore, Yahweh says this: The prophets who prophesy in my name when I have not sent them,and tel you there will be no sword or famine in this country, these same prophets will meet their end by swordand famine.	15 Perciò così dice il Signore contro i profeti che profetizzano in mio nome, mentre io non li ho inviati, e che tuttavia dicono: "Spada e fame non ci sarà in questo paese": di spada e di fame periranno questi profeti.
16 And as for the people to whom they prophesy, they wil be tossed into the streets of Jerusalem,victims of famine and the sword, with not a soul to bury them: neither them nor their wives, nor their sons, northeir daughters. I shall pour their own wickedness down on them.	16 Quanto poi al popolo al quale essi hanno profetizzato, sarà gettato nelle vie di Gerusalemme a causa della fame e della spada e non avranno chi li seppellisca, essi e le loro donne, i loro figli e le loro figlie. Io rovescerò su di loro la loro malvagità".
17 'So say this word to them: May my eyes shed tears night and day, unceasingly, since the daughter ofmy people has sustained a fearsome wound, a crippling injury.	17 Di' loro questa parola: "Stillano lacrime gli occhi miei notte e giorno senza cessare, perché la ferita è grande; ha squarciato la vergine figlia del mio popolo una piaga assai dolorosa.
18 If I go into the countryside, there lie those killed by the sword; if I go into the city, I see people torturedwith hunger; even prophets and priests roam the country at their wits' end.'	18 Se io uscissi per il campo, ecco: feriti di spada; se entrassi in città, ecco: orrori di fame. Perfino il profeta e il sacerdote si aggirano per il paese, ma senza comprendere.
19 Have you rejected Judah altogether? Does your very soul revolt at Zion? Why have you struck usdown without hope of cure? We were hoping for peace -- no good came of it! For the moment of cure -- nothingbut terror!	19 Del tutto hai rigettato Giuda, contro Sion s'è nauseata l'anima tua? Perché ci hai colpito e non c'è per noi guarigione? Si sperava la pace, ma non c'è alcun bene; il tempo della guarigione, invece ecco lo spavento.
20 Yahweh, we acknowledge our wickedness and our ancestors' guilt: we have indeed sinned againstyou.	20 Riconosciamo, Signore, la nostra cattiveria, l'iniquità dei nostri padri: sì, abbiamo peccato contro di te.
21 For your name's sake do not reject us, do not dishonour the throne of your glory. Remember us; donot break your covenant with us.	21 Non rigettarci, a causa del tuo nome, non far disprezzare il trono della tua gloria. Ricòrdati: non infrangere il tuo patto con noi.
22 Can any of the nations' Futile Ones make it rain? Can the heavens of their own accord give showers?Are you not the one, Yahweh our God? In you is our hope, since you make al these things.	22 C'è, forse, tra gli idoli vani delle nazioni chi faccia piovere? Ovvero il cielo potrà dare acquazzoni? Non sei forse tu, Signore, il nostro Dio? Noi speriamo in te, poiché tu hai fatto tutte queste cose!".
