Jeremiah 14

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah on the occasion of the drought.	1 Palabra del Señor que llegó a Jeremías con motivo de la gran sequía:
2 'Judah is in mourning, her towns are pining, sinking to the ground; a cry goes up from Jerusalem.	2 Judá está de duelo y sus puertas desfallecen; están lúgubres, aterradas, y se eleva el clamor de Jerusalén.
3 The nobles send their servants for water, they come to the water-tanks, find no water, and return withtheir pitchers empty. Dismayed and bewildered, they cover their heads.	3 Los nobles mandan a sus criados en busca de agua: ellos van a las cisternas, pero no encuentran agua; vuelven con los cántaros vacíos; avergonzados y confundidos, se agarran la cabeza.
4 Because the soil is al cracked since the country has had no rain; the farmers are dismayed, they covertheir heads.	4 Al ver el suelo agrietado, porque no hay lluvia en el país, los campesinos, avergonzados, se agarran la cabeza.
5 Even the doe in the countryside giving birth abandons her young, for there is no grass;	5 Sí, hasta la cierva en el campo, deja abandonadas sus crías, por falta de pasto;
6 the wild donkeys standing on the bare heights gasp for air like jackals: their eyes grow dim for lack ofpasture.'	6 los asnos salvajes se paran en los montes desolados, aspiran el aire como los chacales; sus ojos se consumen, porque no hay más hierba.
7 Although our sins witness against us, Yahweh, for your name's sake, intervene! Yes, our acts ofinfidelity have been many, we have sinned against you!	7 ¡Si muestra iniquidad atestigua contra nosotros, obra, Señor, a causa de tu Nombre! Porque son muchas nuestras apostasías, hemos pecado contra ti.
8 Yahweh, hope of Israel, its Saviour in time of distress, why are you like a stranger in this country, like atravel er staying only for one night?	8 Señor, esperanza de Israel, su salvador en el tiempo de la angustia: ¿por qué te comportas como un extranjero en el país, como un viajero que sólo acampa para pernoctar?
9 Why are you like someone bemused, like a warrior who has no power to rescue? And yet, Yahweh,you are among us, we are called by your name. Do not desert us!	9 ¿Por qué procedes como un hombre aturdido, como un guerrero impotente para salvar? Pero tú, Señor, estás en medio de nosotros, nosotros somos llamados con tu Nombre: ¡no nos abandones!
10 Yahweh says this about this people, 'They take such pleasure in darting hither and thither, theycannot restrain their feet! But Yahweh takes pleasure in them no longer; now he wil keep their guilt in mind andpunish their sins.'	10 Así habla el Señor acerca de este pueblo: ¡Cómo les gusta vagabundear! ¡No refrenan sus pasos! Pero el Señor no se complace en ellos: ahora se va a acordar de sus faltas y va a castigar sus pecados.
11 Yahweh then said to me, 'Do not intercede for this people or their welfare.	11 El Señor me dijo: No ruegues en favor de este pueblo, no pidas por su bien.
12 If they fast, I wil not listen to their plea; if they offer burnt offerings and cereal offerings I wil notaccept them. Rather, I shal make an end of them by sword, famine and plague.'	12 Aunque ayunen, no escucharé sus gritos; aunque ofrezcan holocaustos y oblaciones, no los aceptaré. Antes bien, los voy a exterminar por la espada, por el hambre y la peste.
13 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,' I answered, 'here are the prophets telling them, "You will not see the sword,famine wil not touch you; I promise you true peace in this place." '	13 Entonces dije: «Ah, Señor! Mira que los profetas les dicen: Ustedes no verán la espada ni pasarán hambre, porque yo les daré una paz duradera en este lugar».
14 Then Yahweh said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying lies in my name; I have not sent them, Igave them no orders, I never spoke to them. Delusive visions, hol ow predictions, daydreams of their own, that iswhat they prophesy to you.	14 El Señor me respondió: Es falso eso que los profetas profetizan en mi Nombre; yo no los envié, no les di ninguna orden ni les hablé. Visiones engañosas, vana adivinación, fantasías de su imaginación: eso es lo que lo ellos profetizan para ustedes.
15 Therefore, Yahweh says this: The prophets who prophesy in my name when I have not sent them,and tel you there will be no sword or famine in this country, these same prophets will meet their end by swordand famine.	15 Por eso, acerca de los profetas que profetizan en mi Nombre sin que yo los haya enviado, y que andan diciendo: «No habrá espada ni hambre en este país»: Así habla el Señor: ¡Por la espada y el hambre serán aniquilados esos profetas!
16 And as for the people to whom they prophesy, they wil be tossed into the streets of Jerusalem,victims of famine and the sword, with not a soul to bury them: neither them nor their wives, nor their sons, northeir daughters. I shall pour their own wickedness down on them.	16 Y aquellos a quienes ellos profetizan, serán arrojados por las calles de Jerusalén, a consecuencia del hambre y de la espada, sin que haya nadie para enterrarlos, ni a ellos, ni a sus mujeres, ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas. Yo derramaré sobre ellos su propia maldad.
17 'So say this word to them: May my eyes shed tears night and day, unceasingly, since the daughter ofmy people has sustained a fearsome wound, a crippling injury.	17 Tú les dirás esta palabra: Que mis ojos se deshagan en lágrimas, día y noche, sin cesar, porque la virgen hija de mi pueblo ha sufrido un gran quebranto, una llaga incurable.
18 If I go into the countryside, there lie those killed by the sword; if I go into the city, I see people torturedwith hunger; even prophets and priests roam the country at their wits' end.'	18 Si salgo al campo abierto, veo las víctimas de la espada; si entro en la ciudad, veo los sufrimientos del hambre. Sí, hasta el profeta y el sacerdote recorren el país y no logran comprender.
19 Have you rejected Judah altogether? Does your very soul revolt at Zion? Why have you struck usdown without hope of cure? We were hoping for peace -- no good came of it! For the moment of cure -- nothingbut terror!	19 ¿Has rechazado del todo a Judá? ¿Estás disgustado con Sión? ¿Por qué nos has herido sin remedio? Se esperaba la paz, ¡y no hay nada bueno...! el tiempo de la curación, ¡y sobrevino el espanto!
20 Yahweh, we acknowledge our wickedness and our ancestors' guilt: we have indeed sinned againstyou.	20 Reconocemos, Señor, nuestra maldad, la iniquidad de nuestros padres, porque hemos pecado contra ti.
21 For your name's sake do not reject us, do not dishonour the throne of your glory. Remember us; donot break your covenant with us.	21 A causa de tu Nombre, no desprecie, no envilezcas el trono de tu Gloria: ¡acuérdate, no rompas tu Alianza con nosotros!
22 Can any of the nations' Futile Ones make it rain? Can the heavens of their own accord give showers?Are you not the one, Yahweh our God? In you is our hope, since you make al these things.	22 Entre los ídolos de las naciones, ¿hay alguien que haga llover? ¿Es el cielo el que envía los chaparrones? ¿No eres tú, Señor, nuestro Dios? Nosotros esperamos en ti, porque eres tú el que has hecho todo esto.
