Jeremiah 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah on the occasion of the drought.	1 Palabra de Yahveh a Jeremías, a propósito de la sequía.
2 'Judah is in mourning, her towns are pining, sinking to the ground; a cry goes up from Jerusalem.	2 Judá está de luto, y sus ciudades lánguidas: están sórdidas de tierra, y sube el alarido de Jerusalén.
3 The nobles send their servants for water, they come to the water-tanks, find no water, and return withtheir pitchers empty. Dismayed and bewildered, they cover their heads.	3 Sus nobles mandaban a los pequeños por agua: llegaban a los aljibes y no la encontraban; volvían con sus cántaros vacíos. Quedaban confundidos y avergonzados y se cubrían la cabeza.
4 Because the soil is al cracked since the country has had no rain; the farmers are dismayed, they covertheir heads.	4 El suelo está consternado por no haber lluvia en la tierra. Confusos andan los labriegos, se han cubierto la cabeza.
5 Even the doe in the countryside giving birth abandons her young, for there is no grass;	5 Hasta la cierva en el campo parió y abandonó, porque no había césped.
6 the wild donkeys standing on the bare heights gasp for air like jackals: their eyes grow dim for lack ofpasture.'	6 Los onagros se paraban sobre los calveros, aspiraban el aire como chacales, tenían los ojos consumidos por falta de hierba.
7 Although our sins witness against us, Yahweh, for your name's sake, intervene! Yes, our acts ofinfidelity have been many, we have sinned against you!	7 Aunque nuestras culpas atesten contra nosotros, Yahveh, obra por amor de tu Nombre. Cierto, son muchas nuestras apostasías, contra ti hemos pecado.
8 Yahweh, hope of Israel, its Saviour in time of distress, why are you like a stranger in this country, like atravel er staying only for one night?	8 ¡Oh esperanza de Israel, Yahveh, Salvador suyo en tiempo de angustia! ¿Por qué has de ser cual forastero en la tierra, o cual viajero que se tumba para hacer noche?
9 Why are you like someone bemused, like a warrior who has no power to rescue? And yet, Yahweh,you are among us, we are called by your name. Do not desert us!	9 ¿Por qué has de ser como un pasmado, como un valiente incapaz de ayudar? Pues tú estás entre nosotros, Yahveh, y por tu Nombre se nos llama, ¡no te deshagas de nosotros!
10 Yahweh says this about this people, 'They take such pleasure in darting hither and thither, theycannot restrain their feet! But Yahweh takes pleasure in them no longer; now he wil keep their guilt in mind andpunish their sins.'	10 Así dice Yahveh de este pueblo: ¡Cómo les gusta vagabundear!, no contienen sus pies. Pero Yahveh no se complace en ellos: ahora se va a acordar de su culpa y a castigar su pecado.
11 Yahweh then said to me, 'Do not intercede for this people or their welfare.	11 Y me dijo Yahveh: «No intercedas en pro de este pueblo.
12 If they fast, I wil not listen to their plea; if they offer burnt offerings and cereal offerings I wil notaccept them. Rather, I shal make an end of them by sword, famine and plague.'	12 Así ayunen, no escucharé su clamoreo; y así levanten holocausto y ofrenda, no me complacerán; sino que con espada, con hambre y con peste voy a acabarlos».
13 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,' I answered, 'here are the prophets telling them, "You will not see the sword,famine wil not touch you; I promise you true peace in this place." '	13 Dije yo: «¡Ah, Señor Yahveh! Pues he aquí que los profetas están diciéndoles: No veréis espada, ni tendréis hambre, sino que voy a daros paz segura en este lugar».
14 Then Yahweh said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying lies in my name; I have not sent them, Igave them no orders, I never spoke to them. Delusive visions, hol ow predictions, daydreams of their own, that iswhat they prophesy to you.	14 Y me dijo Yahveh: «Mentira profetizan esos profetas en mi nombre. Yo no les he enviado ni dado instrucciones, ni les he hablado. Visión mentirosa, augurio fútil y delirio de sus corazones os dan por profecía.
15 Therefore, Yahweh says this: The prophets who prophesy in my name when I have not sent them,and tel you there will be no sword or famine in this country, these same prophets will meet their end by swordand famine.	15 Por tanto, así dice Yahveh: Tocante a los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre sin haberles enviado yo, y que dicen: No habrá espada ni hambre en este país, con espada y con hambre serán rematados los tales profetas,
16 And as for the people to whom they prophesy, they wil be tossed into the streets of Jerusalem,victims of famine and the sword, with not a soul to bury them: neither them nor their wives, nor their sons, northeir daughters. I shall pour their own wickedness down on them.	16 y el pueblo al que profetizan yacerá derribado por las calles de Jerusalén, por causa del hambre y de la espada, y no habrá sepulturero para ellos ni para sus mujeres, sus hijos y sus hijas; pues volcaré sobre ellos mismos su maldad».
17 'So say this word to them: May my eyes shed tears night and day, unceasingly, since the daughter ofmy people has sustained a fearsome wound, a crippling injury.	17 Les dirás esta palabra: Dejen caer mis ojos lágrimas de noche y de día sin parar, porque de quebranto grande es quebrantada la doncella, hija de mi pueblo, de golpe gravísimo,
18 If I go into the countryside, there lie those killed by the sword; if I go into the city, I see people torturedwith hunger; even prophets and priests roam the country at their wits' end.'	18 Si salgo al campo encuentro heridos de espada; y si entro en la ciudad, encuentro desfallecidos de hambre. Y aun el mismo profeta, aun el mismo sacerdote andan errantes por el país y nada saben.
19 Have you rejected Judah altogether? Does your very soul revolt at Zion? Why have you struck usdown without hope of cure? We were hoping for peace -- no good came of it! For the moment of cure -- nothingbut terror!	19 - ¿Es que has desechado a Judá? ¿o acaso de Sión se ha hastiado tu alma? ¿Por qué nos has herido, que no tenemos cura? Esperábamos paz, y no hubo bien alguno; el tiempo de la cura, y se presenta el miedo.
20 Yahweh, we acknowledge our wickedness and our ancestors' guilt: we have indeed sinned againstyou.	20 Reconocemos, Yahveh, nuestras maldades, la culpa de nuestros padres; que hemos pecado contra ti.
21 For your name's sake do not reject us, do not dishonour the throne of your glory. Remember us; donot break your covenant with us.	21 No desprecies, por amor de tu Nombre, no deshonres la sede de tu Gloria. Recuerda, no anules tu alianza con nosotros.
22 Can any of the nations' Futile Ones make it rain? Can the heavens of their own accord give showers?Are you not the one, Yahweh our God? In you is our hope, since you make al these things.	22 ¿Hay entre las Vanidades gentílicas quienes hagan llover? ¿o acaso los cielos dan de suyo la llovizna? ¿No eres tú mismo, oh Yahveh? ¡Dios nuestro, esperamos en ti, porque tú hiciste todas estas cosas!
