Jeremiah 14

1 The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah on the occasion of the drought.	1 - Parola del Signore rivolta a Geremia sul fatto della siccità.
2 'Judah is in mourning, her towns are pining, sinking to the ground; a cry goes up from Jerusalem.	2 La Giudea è in duolo, sono prostrate le sue porte e giacciono cupe al suolo, e un grido si è alzato da Gerusalemme.
3 The nobles send their servants for water, they come to the water-tanks, find no water, and return withtheir pitchers empty. Dismayed and bewildered, they cover their heads.	3 I maggiorenti mandarono i loro inferiori per acqua, vennero ad attingere e non trovarono acqua, riportarono i loro vasi vuoti, restarono confusi ed afflitti e si copersero il capo.
4 Because the soil is al cracked since the country has had no rain; the farmers are dismayed, they covertheir heads.	4 A causa della squallidezza della terra, perchè pioggia non è venuta, i campagnuoli sono rimasti costernati e si copersero il capo.
5 Even the doe in the countryside giving birth abandons her young, for there is no grass;	5 Anche la cerva nel campo figliò e abbandonò i suoi parti, perchè l'erba era venuta a mancare.
6 the wild donkeys standing on the bare heights gasp for air like jackals: their eyes grow dim for lack ofpasture.'	6 Gli onagri, ritti sulle vette, boccheggiavano al vento come draghi, cogli occhi spenti, perchè non c'era più erba.
7 Although our sins witness against us, Yahweh, for your name's sake, intervene! Yes, our acts ofinfidelity have been many, we have sinned against you!	7 Se le nostre iniquità ci condannano, o Signore, opera in riguardo al tuo nome, perchè i nostri pervertimenti sono molti, noi abbiamo peccato contro di te.
8 Yahweh, hope of Israel, its Saviour in time of distress, why are you like a stranger in this country, like atravel er staying only for one night?	8 O aspettazione d'Israele, suo salvatore nel tempo dell'angustia, perchè saresti in questa terra come un avventizio, come un viandante che si ferma ad albergare?
9 Why are you like someone bemused, like a warrior who has no power to rescue? And yet, Yahweh,you are among us, we are called by your name. Do not desert us!	9 Perchè saresti come un uomo smarrito, come un forte impotente a salvare? Ma tu, o Signore, sei in mezzo di noi, il tuo nome è invocato sopra di noi: non ci abbandonare!
10 Yahweh says this about this people, 'They take such pleasure in darting hither and thither, theycannot restrain their feet! But Yahweh takes pleasure in them no longer; now he wil keep their guilt in mind andpunish their sins.'	10 Così dice il Signore a questo popolo che ha amato di andare a zonzo con i piedi senza mai stare cheto e perciò non è piaciuto al Signore: ora è il momento che ricorderà la loro iniquità, li visiterà per castigare i loro peccati.
11 Yahweh then said to me, 'Do not intercede for this people or their welfare.	11 E il Signore mi disse: «Non pregare più in favore di questo popolo.
12 If they fast, I wil not listen to their plea; if they offer burnt offerings and cereal offerings I wil notaccept them. Rather, I shal make an end of them by sword, famine and plague.'	12 Quando digiuneranno, non esaudirò più le loro orazioni; e se offriranno olocausti e vittime, non li accetterò, perchè li consumerò colla spada, la fame e la peste».
13 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,' I answered, 'here are the prophets telling them, "You will not see the sword,famine wil not touch you; I promise you true peace in this place." '	13 E io dissi: «Ah, ah, ah, Signore Dio! I profeti dicon loro: - Non vedrete la spada, e la fame non ci sarà, ma la pace di sicuro, la pace vi darà in questo luogo -».
14 Then Yahweh said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying lies in my name; I have not sent them, Igave them no orders, I never spoke to them. Delusive visions, hol ow predictions, daydreams of their own, that iswhat they prophesy to you.	14 E il Signore disse a me: «Falsamente i profeti profetizzano in nome mio; io non ho dato loro nessuna missione e nessun ordine e non ho parlato a loro: visione bugiarda, fattucchieria, impostura e illusione del loro cuore profetizzano a voi.
15 Therefore, Yahweh says this: The prophets who prophesy in my name when I have not sent them,and tel you there will be no sword or famine in this country, these same prophets will meet their end by swordand famine.	15 Per questo, così dice il Signore, sul conto dei profeti che profetizzano in mio nome senza averne avuto la missione da me, che dicono: - Nè spada, nè fame vi sarà in questa terra.- Quei profeti, di spada e di fame periranno.
16 And as for the people to whom they prophesy, they wil be tossed into the streets of Jerusalem,victims of famine and the sword, with not a soul to bury them: neither them nor their wives, nor their sons, northeir daughters. I shall pour their own wickedness down on them.	16 E le popolazioni a cui vanno facendo delle profezie giaceranno vittime della spada e della fame, gettate nelle vie di Gerusalemme senza alcuno che le seppellisca, essi, le loro mogli, i figli e le figlie, e sopra di loro rovescerò il loro male.
17 'So say this word to them: May my eyes shed tears night and day, unceasingly, since the daughter ofmy people has sustained a fearsome wound, a crippling injury.	17 E tu dirai loro questa parola: - Gli occhi miei versino lacrime, notte e giorno senza tregua, perchè da una grande rovina è stata colpita la figlia del popolo mio, da una percossa grandemente funesta.-
18 If I go into the countryside, there lie those killed by the sword; if I go into the city, I see people torturedwith hunger; even prophets and priests roam the country at their wits' end.'	18 Se esco per i campi, ecco gli uccisi dalla spada; se ritorno in città, ecco gli sfiniti dalla fame; anche il profeta, anche il sacerdote sono andati raminghi in paesi sconosciuti».
19 Have you rejected Judah altogether? Does your very soul revolt at Zion? Why have you struck usdown without hope of cure? We were hoping for peace -- no good came of it! For the moment of cure -- nothingbut terror!	19 Hai tu proprio rigettato Giuda? L'anima tua ha preso in avversione Sion? Perchè dunque ci hai percossi irrimediabilmente? Abbiamo aspettato la pace e non c'è bene; un momento di ristoro, ed ecco trepidazione?
20 Yahweh, we acknowledge our wickedness and our ancestors' guilt: we have indeed sinned againstyou.	20 Noi riconosciamo, o Signore, le nostre empietà e le iniquità dei nostri padri, perchè abbiamo peccato contro di te.
21 For your name's sake do not reject us, do not dishonour the throne of your glory. Remember us; donot break your covenant with us.	21 Per riguardo al tuo nome non esporci all'oltraggio; non farci vilipendere in onta al soglio della tua gloria; ricorda e non rompere l'alleanza che hai fatto con noi.
22 Can any of the nations' Futile Ones make it rain? Can the heavens of their own accord give showers?Are you not the one, Yahweh our God? In you is our hope, since you make al these things.	22 Sono forse tra i simulacri dei gentili coloro che fanno piovere? o avrebbero potere i cieli di dare le piogge? E non sei tu, o Dio nostro, in cui abbiamo sperato? perchè sei tu che hai fatto tutte queste cose.
