Jeremiah 13

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 Yahweh said this to me, 'Go and buy a linen waistcloth and put it round your waist. But do not dip it inwater.'	1 Hæc dicit Dominus ad me : Vade, et posside tibi lumbare lineum, et pones illud super lumbos tuos, et in aquam non inferes illud.
2 And so, as Yahweh had ordered, I bought a waistcloth and put it round my waist.	2 Et possedi lumbare juxta verbum Domini, et posui circa lumbos meos.
3 A second time the word of Yahweh came to me,	3 Et factus est sermo Domini ad me secundo, dicens :
4 'Take the waistcloth that you have bought and are wearing round your waist. Up, go to the Euphratesand hide it there in a hole in the rock.'	4 Tolle lumbare quod possedisti, quod est circa lumbos tuos : et surgens vade ad Euphraten, et absconde ibi illud in foramine petræ.
5 So I went and hid it by the Euphrates as Yahweh had ordered me.	5 Et abii, et abscondi illud in Euphrate, sicut præceperat mihi Dominus.
6 A long time later, Yahweh said to me, 'Up, go to the Euphrates and fetch the waistcloth I ordered you tohide there.'	6 Et factum est post dies plurimos, dixit Dominus ad me : Surge, vade ad Euphraten, et tolle inde lumbare quod præcepi tibi ut absconderes illud ibi.
7 So I went to the Euphrates, and I searched, and I took the waistcloth from the place where I had hiddenit. And there was the waistcloth ruined, no use for anything.	7 Et abii ad Euphraten, et fodi, et tuli lumbare de loco ubi absconderam illud : et ecce computruerat lumbare, ita ut nulli usui aptum esset.
8 Then the word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,	8 Et factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens :
9 'Yahweh says this, "In the same way I shal ruin the pride of Judah, the immense pride of Jerusalem.	9 Hæc dicit Dominus : Sic putrescere faciam superbiam Juda, et superbiam Jerusalem multam :
10 This evil people, these people who refuse to listen to my words, who fol ow their own stubborninclinations and run after other gods, serving and worshipping them -- this people wil become like this waistcloth,no good for anything.	10 populum istum pessimum qui nolunt audire verba mea, et ambulant in pravitate cordis sui, abieruntque post deos alienos ut servirent eis et adorarent eos : et erunt sicut lumbare istud, quod nulli usui aptum est.
11 For just as a waistcloth clings to a man's waist, so I made the whole House of Israel and the wholeHouse of Judah cling to me, Yahweh declares, to be my people, my glory, my honour and my pride. But theyhave not listened."	11 Sicut enim adhæret lumbare ad lumbos viri, sic agglutinavi mihi omnem domum Israël, et omnem domum Juda, dicit Dominus, ut essent mihi in populum, et in nomen, et in laudem, et in gloriam : et non audierunt.
12 'You wil also say this to them, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Any jug can be fil ed with wine." And if they answer you, "Do you think we do not know that any jug can be fil ed with wine?"	12 Dices ergo ad eos sermonem istum : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Omnis laguncula implebitur vino. Et dicent ad te : Numquid ignoramus quia omnis laguncula implebitur vino ?
13 you are to say, "Yahweh says this: Look, I shal fil al the inhabitants of this country, the kings whooccupy the throne of David, the priests, the prophets and al the citizens of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.	13 Et dices ad eos : Hæc dicit Dominus : Ecce ego implebo omnes habitatores terræ hujus, et reges qui sedent de stirpe David super thronum ejus, et sacerdotes, et prophetas, et omnes habitatores Jerusalem, ebrietate.
14 Then I shal smash them one against the other, parents and children al together, Yahweh declares.Mercilessly, relentlessly, pitilessly, I shal destroy them." '	14 Et dispergam eos virum a fratre suo, et patres et filios pariter, ait Dominus. Non parcam, et non concedam : neque miserebor, ut non disperdam eos.
15 Listen and pay attention, do not be proud: Yahweh is speaking!	15 Audite, et auribus percipite : nolite elevari, quia Dominus locutus est.
16 Give glory to Yahweh your God before the darkness comes, before your feet stumble on the darkenedmountains. You hope for light, but he wil turn it to shadow dark as death, wil change it to blackness.	16 Date Domino Deo vestro gloriam antequam contenebrescat, et antequam offendant pedes vestri ad montes caliginosos : exspectabitis lucem, et ponet eam in umbram mortis, et in caliginem.
17 If you do not listen to this warning, I shal weep in secret for your pride; my eyes wil weep bitterly andstream with tears, for Yahweh's flock is being led into captivity.	17 Quod si hoc non audieritis, in abscondito plorabit anima mea a facie superbiæ : plorans plorabit, et deducet oculus meus lacrimam, quia captus est grex Domini.
18 Tel the king and the queen mother, 'Sit in a lower place, since your glorious crown has fal en fromyour head.	18 Dic regi et dominatrici : Humiliamini, sedete, quoniam descendit de capite vestro corona gloriæ vestræ.
19 The towns of the Negeb are shut off with no one to give access to them. Al Judah has been deported,deported wholesale.'	19 Civitates austri clausæ sunt, et non est qui aperiat : translata est omnis Juda transmigratione perfecta.
20 Raise your eyes and look at these now coming from the north. Where is the flock once entrusted toyou, the flock which was your pride?	20 Levate oculos vestros et videte, qui venitis ab aquilone : ubi est grex qui datus est tibi, pecus inclytum tuum ?
21 What wil you say when they come and punish you, you yourself having taught them? Against you, inthe lead, wil come your friends. Then will not anguish grip you as it grips a woman in labour?	21 Quid dices cum visitaverit te ? tu enim docuisti eos adversum te, et erudisti in caput tuum. Numquid non dolores apprehendent te, quasi mulierem parturientem ?
22 And should you ask yourself, 'Why is al this happening to me?' it is because of your great guilt thatyour skirts have been pulled up and you have been manhandled.	22 Quod si dixeris in corde tuo : Quare venerunt mihi hæc ? propter multitudinem iniquitatis tuæ revelata sunt verecundiora tua, pollutæ sunt plantæ tuæ.
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? And you, can you do right, being soaccustomed to wrong?	23 Si mutare potest Æthiops pellem suam, aut pardus varietates suas, et vos poteritis benefacere, cum didiceritis malum.
24 'I shall scatter you like chaff on the desert wind.	24 Et disseminabo eos quasi stipulam quæ vento raptatur in deserto.
25 This is your share, the part allotted you, from me, Yahweh declares, because you have forgotten meand put your trust in Delusion.	25 Hæc sors tua, parsque mensuræ tuæ a me, dicit Dominus, quia oblita es mei, et confisa es in mendacio.
26 I am the one who pul s your skirts up over your face to let your shame be seen.	26 Unde et ego nudavi femora tua contra faciem tuam, et apparuit ignominia tua :
27 Oh! Your adulteries, your shrieks of pleasure, your vile prostitution! On the hills, in the fields, I haveseen your Horrors. Jerusalem, disaster is coming for you! How much longer till you are made clean?'	27 adulteria tua, et hinnitus tuus, scelus fornicationis tuæ : super colles in agro vidi abominationes tuas. Væ tibi, Jerusalem ! non mundaberis post me : usquequo adhuc ?
