NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
1 Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah in crimson garments, so magnificently dressed, marchingso ful of strength? - It is I, whose word is saving justice, whose power is to save.1 Quis est iste, qui venit de Edom,
tinctis vestibus de Bosra ?
iste formosus in stola sua,
gradiens in multitudine fortitudinis suæ ?
Ego qui loquor justitiam,
et propugnator sum ad salvandum.
2 -Why are your garments red, your clothes like someone treading the winepress?2 Quare ergo rubrum est indumentum tuum,
et vestimenta tua sicut calcantium in torculari ?
3 -I have trodden the winepress alone; of my people, not one was with me. So I trod them down in myanger, I trampled on them in my wrath. Their blood squirted over my garments and al my clothes are stained.3 Torcular calcavi solus,
et de gentibus non est vir mecum ;
calcavi eos in furore meo,
et conculcavi eos in ira mea :
et aspersus est sanguis eorum super vestimenta mea,
et omnia indumenta mea inquinavi.
4 For I have decided on a day of vengeance, my year of retribution has come.4 Dies enim ultionis in corde meo ;
annus redemptionis meæ venit.
5 I looked: there was no one to help me; I was appal ed but could find no supporter! Then my own armcame to my rescue and my own fury supported me.5 Circumspexi, et non erat auxiliator ;
quæsivi, et non fuit qui adjuvaret :
et salvavit mihi brachium meum,
et indignatio mea ipsa auxiliata est mihi.
6 I crushed the peoples in my anger, I shattered them in my fury and sent their blood streaming to theground.6 Et conculcavi populos in furore meo,
et inebriavi eos in indignatione mea,
et detraxi in terram virtutem eorum.
7 I shal recount Yahweh's acts of faithful love, Yahweh's praises, in return for all that Yahweh has donefor us, for his great kindness to the House of Israel, for all that he has done in his mercy, for the abundance ofhis acts of faithful love.7 Miserationum Domini recordabor ;
laudem Domini
super omnibus quæ reddidit nobis Dominus,
et super multitudinem bonorum domui Israël,
quæ largitus est eis secundum indulgentiam suam,
et secundum multitudinem misericordiarum suarum.
8 For he said, 'Truly they are my people, children who will not betray me,' and he became their Saviour.8 Et dixit : Verumtamen populus meus est,
filii non negantes ;
et factus est eis salvator.
9 In al their troubles, it was no messenger or angel but his presence that saved them. In his love and pityhe himself redeemed them, lifted them up and carried them throughout the days of old.9 In omni tribulatione eorum non est tribulatus,
et angelus faciei ejus salvavit eos :
in dilectione sua et in indulgentia sua
ipse redemit eos,
et portavit eos, et elevavit eos
cunctis diebus sæculi.
10 But they rebelled and vexed his holy Spirit. Then he became their enemy and himself waged war onthem.10 Ipsi autem ad iracundiam provocaverunt,
et afflixerunt spiritum Sancti ejus :
et conversus est eis in inimicum,
et ipse debellavit eos.
11 But he cal ed the past to mind, Moses his servant. Where is he who saved them from the sea, theShepherd of his flock? Where was he who put his holy Spirit among them,11 Et recordatus est dierum sæculi Moysi, et populi sui.
Ubi est qui eduxit eos de mari
cum pastoribus gregis sui ?
Ubi est qui posuit in medio ejus
spiritum Sancti sui ;
12 whose glorious arm led the way by Moses' right hand? Who divided the waters before them to winhimself everlasting renown,12 qui eduxit ad dexteram Moysen,
brachio majestatis suæ ;
qui scidit aquas ante eos,
ut faceret sibi nomen sempiternum ;
13 who led them through the depths as easily as a horse through the desert? They stumbled as little13 qui eduxit eos per abyssos,
quasi equum in deserto
non impingentem ?
14 as cattle going down to the plain. Yahweh's Spirit led them to rest. This was how you guided yourpeople to win yourself glorious renown.14 Quasi animal in campo descendens,
spiritus Domini ductor ejus fuit.
Sic adduxisti populum tuum,
ut faceres tibi nomen gloriæ.
15 Look down from heaven and see from your holy and glorious dwel ing. Where is your zeal and yourmight? Are your deepest feelings, your mercy to me, to be restrained?15 Attende de cælo, et vide
de habitaculo sancto tuo, et gloriæ tuæ.
Ubi est zelus tuus, et fortitudo tua,
multitudo viscerum tuorum et miserationum tuarum ?
Super me continuerunt se.
16 After all, you are our Father. If Abraham will not own us, if Israel wil not acknowledge us, you,Yahweh, are our Father, 'Our Redeemer' is your name from of old.16 Tu enim pater noster :
et Abraham nescivit nos,
et Israël ignoravit nos :
tu, Domine, pater noster,
redemptor noster, a sæculo nomen tuum.
17 Why, Yahweh, do you let us wander from your ways and let our hearts grow too hard to fear you?Return, for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage.17 Quare errare nos fecisti, Domine, de viis tuis ;
indurasti cor nostrum ne timeremus te ?
Convertere propter servos tuos,
tribus hæreditatis tuæ.
18 Your holy people have owned it for so short a time, our enemies have trampled on your sanctuary.18 Quasi nihilum possederunt populum sanctum tuum :
hostes nostri conculcaverunt sanctificationem tuam.
19 We have long been like those you do not rule, people who do not bear your name. Oh, that you wouldtear the heavens open and come down -- in your presence the mountains would quake,19 Facti sumus quasi in principio, cum non dominareris nostri,
neque invocaretur nomen tuum super nos.
