Awake, awake! Clothe yourself in strength, Zion. Put on your finest clothes, Jerusalem, Holy City; forthe uncircumcised and the unclean will enter you no more. | 1 Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your glorious garments, O Jerusalem, holy city. No longer shall the uncircumcised or the unclean enter you. |
Shake off your dust; get up, captive Jerusalem! The chains have fal en from your neck, captivedaughter of Jerusalem! | 2 Shake off the dust, ascend to the throne, Jerusalem; Loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter Zion! |
For Yahweh says this, 'You were sold for nothing; you wil be redeemed without money.' | 3 For thus says the LORD: You were sold for nothing, and without money you shall be redeemed. |
For the Lord Yahweh says this, 'Long ago my people went to Egypt and settled there as aliens; final yAssyria oppressed them for no reason. | 4 Thus says the Lord GOD: To Egypt in the beginning my people went down, to sojourn there; Assyria, too, oppressed them for nought. |
So now what is to be done,' declares Yahweh, 'since my people have been carried off for nothing, theirmasters howl in triumph,' declares Yahweh, 'and my name is held in contempt all day, every day? | 5 But now, what am I to do here? says the LORD. My people have been taken away without redress; their rulers make a boast of it, says the LORD; all the day my name is constantly reviled. |
Because of this my people wil know my name, because of this they will know when the day comes, that it is I saying, Here I am!' | 6 Therefore on that day my people shall know my renown, that it is I who have foretold it. Here I am! |
How beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of the messenger announcing peace, of the messenger ofgood news, who proclaims salvation and says to Zion, 'Your God is king!' | 7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings glad tidings, Announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation, and saying to Zion, "Your God is King!" |
The voices of your watchmen! Now they raise their voices, shouting for joy together, for with their owneyes they have seen Yahweh returning to Zion. | 8 Hark! Your watchmen raise a cry, together they shout for joy, For they see directly, before their eyes, the LORD restoring Zion. |
Break into shouts together, shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem; for Yahweh has consoled his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. | 9 Break out together in song, O ruins of Jerusalem! For the LORD comforts his people, he redeems Jerusalem. |
Yahweh has bared his holy arm for al the nations to see, and al the ends of the earth have seen thesalvation of our God. | 10 The LORD has bared his holy arm in the sight of all the nations; All the ends of the earth will behold the salvation of our God. |
Go away, go away, leave that place, do not touch anything unclean. Get out of her, purify yourselves, you who carry Yahweh's vessels! | 11 Depart, depart, come forth from there, touch nothing unclean! Out from there! Purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of the LORD. |
For you are not to hurry away, you are not to leave like fugitives. No, Yahweh marches at your headand the God of Israel is your rearguard. | 12 Yet not in fearful haste will you come out, nor leave in headlong flight, For the LORD comes before you, and your rear guard is the God of Israel. |
Look, my servant will prosper, wil grow great, wil rise to great heights. | 13 See, my servant shall prosper, he shall be raised high and greatly exalted. |
As many people were aghast at him -- he was so inhumanly disfigured that he no longer looked like aman- | 14 Even as many were amazed at him-- so marred was his look beyond that of man, and his appearance beyond that of mortals-- |
so many nations wil be astonished and kings wil stay tight-lipped before him, seeing what had neverbeen told them, learning what they had not heard before. | 15 So shall he startle many nations, because of him kings shall stand speechless; For those who have not been told shall see, those who have not heard shall ponder it. |
