NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced on al the fortified townsof Judah and captured them.	1 - E avvenne, l'anno decimo quarto del regno di Ezechia, che Sennacherib, re degli Assiri salì contro a tutte le città fortificate di Giuda e le prese.
2 From Lachish the king of Assyria sent the cupbearer-in-chief with a large force to King Hezekiah inJerusalem. The cupbearer-in-chief took up position near the conduit of the upper pool on the road to the Ful er'sField.	2 E il re degli Assiri mandò da Lachis a Gerusalemme, al re Ezechia, Rabsace con una forte armata, e si fermò presso il canale della vasca superiore, sulla strada del campo del Fullone.
3 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph went out to him.	3 E uscì a lui Eliacim figlio di Elcia, maggiordomo, e Sobna scriba, e Joae, figlio di Asaf, segretario.
4 The cupbearer-in-chief said to them, 'Say to Hezekiah, "The great king, the king of Assyria, says this:What makes you so confident?	4 E disse loro Rabsace: «Dite ad Ezechia: - Il gran re, il re degli Assiri, dice così: "Che fidanza è questa che tu ostenti?
5 Do you think empty words are as good as strategy and military strength? Who are you relying on, todare to rebel against me?	5 Per consiglio di chi e con quali forze ti disponi a resistermi? in chi confidi che ti sei ritirato da me?
6 There you are, relying on that broken reed, Egypt, which pricks and pierces the hand of the person wholeans on it. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt is like to al who rely on him.	6 Ah, ecco, tu confidi nell'Egitto, in quel tronco di canna fessa, che se uno si appoggia sopra, gli entra nella mano e gliela fora: tale è il Faraone, re di Egitto, con chiunque in lui confida!".
7 You may say to me: We rely on Yahweh our God. But haven't his high places and altars beensuppressed by Hezekiah, who told Judah and Jerusalem: This is the altar before which you must worship?	7 Che se tu mi risponderai: "Noi confidiamo nel Signore Iddio nostro, non è egli quello a cui Ezechia distrusse are e altari, dicendo a Giuda e a Gerusalemme: Dinanzi a questo altare voi adorerete?".
8 Very wel , then, make a wager with my lord the king of Assyria: I wil give you two thousand horses ifyou can find horsemen to ride them.	8 Or dunque vieni a patti col mio signore re degli Assiri; s'io ti darò duemila cavalli tu neppure potresti da te fornirli di cavalieri:
9 How could you repulse a single one of the least of my master's soldiers? And yet you have relied onEgypt for chariots and horsemen.	9 e come pretenderesti di resistere in faccia a uno anche degli infimi servi del mio signore? Che se tu confidi nell'Egitto e nei cocchi e nei cavalieri,
10 And lastly, have I marched on this country to lay it waste without warrant from Yahweh? Yahwehhimself said to me: March on this country and lay it waste."	10 sappi che non senza ordine del Signore sono salito a questa terra per distruggerla. Il Signore me l'ha detto: "Sali contro quella terra e distruggila" -».
11 Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to the cupbearer-in-chief, 'Please speak to your servants in Aramaic,for we understand it; do not speak to us in the Judaean language within earshot of the people on the ramparts.'	11 Ed Eliacim e Sobna e Joae dissero a Rabsace: «Parla ai tuoi servi in lingua siriaca, perchè noi l'intendiamo; non parlare ebraico che c'è tutto il popolo sulle mura che intende».
12 But the cupbearer-in-chief said, 'Do you think my lord sent me here to say these things to your masteror to you? On the contrary, it was to the people sitting on the ramparts who, like you, are doomed to eat theirown dung and drink their own urine.'	12 E Rabsace rispose loro: «Mi ha forse il mio signore mandato a dir queste parole al tuo signore e a te, e non piuttosto a codesti uomini costretti a restare sulle mura a mangiare il loro sterco e a bere la loro urina con voi?».
13 The cupbearer-in-chief then drew himself up and shouted loudly in the Judaean language, 'Listen tothe words of the great king, the king of Assyria.	13 Ciò detto Rabsace si alzò ritto, e gridando con voce forte in lingua ebraica, disse: «Udite le parole del gran re, del re degli Assiri.
14 The king says this, "Do not let Hezekiah delude you! He wil be powerless to save you.	14 Il re dice così: - Non vi lasciate sedurre da Ezechia, perchè non potrà scamparvi.
15 Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on Yahweh by saying: Yahweh is sure to save us; this citywil not fal into the king of Assyria's clutches.	15 Nè vi faccia garanzia sul Signore Iddio dicendo: "Il Signore certamente ci libererà, questa città non sarà data in mano del re degli Assiri".
16 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says this: Make peace with me,	16 Non date ascolto ad Ezechia, sentite piuttosto quello che dice il re degli Assiri: "Fate meco patti vantaggiosi, arrendetevi a me e ciascuno mangi della vite sua e del suo fico, e beva ognuno l'acqua della sua cisterna;
17 surrender to me, and every one of you wil be free to eat the fruit of his own vine and of his own figtree and to drink the water of his own storage-wel until I come and take you away to a country like your own, aland of corn and good wine, a land of bread and vineyards.	17 fino a tanto ch'io venga e vi trasporti in una terra che è come la vostra terra da frumento e da vino, terra da grano e da vigne".
18 Do not let Hezekiah delude you by saying: Yahweh will save us. Has any god of any nation been ableto save his country from the king of Assyria's clutches?	18 Non vi dissuada Ezechia con dire: "Il Signore ci libererà". Forse che tutti gli iddii delle nazioni qualcuno ha potuto liberare la sua terra dalla mano del re degli Assiri?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Where are thenational gods of Samaria? Did they save Samaria from my clutches?	19 Dov'è il dio di Emat e di Arfad? dov'è il dio di Sefarvaim? E quei di Samaria hanno forse potuto liberarla dalla mia mano?
20 Of al the national gods, which ones have saved their countries from my clutches, that Yahweh shouldbe able to save Jerusalem from my clutches?" '	20 Quale è, tra tutti gli dèi di questi paesi che abbia salvata la sua terra dalle mie mani, per dire, che il Signore dalla mia mano salverà Gerusalemme? ».
21 They, however, kept quiet and said nothing in reply, since the king had given the order, 'You are not toanswer him.'	21 Ma quelli tacquero e non gli risposero parola. Il re infatti aveva dato l'ordine dicendo: «Non gli rispondete».
22 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph, with their clothes torn, went to Hezekiah and reported what the cupbearer-in-chief had said.	22 Allora Eliacim, figlio di Elcia maggiordomo, e Sobna scriba, e Joae, figlio di Asaf, segretario, rientrarono da Ezechia colle vesti stracciate e gli riferirono le parole di Rabsace.
