Isaiah 36

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced on al the fortified townsof Judah and captured them.	1 El decimocuarto año del rey Ezequías, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, subió contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y se apoderó de ellas.
2 From Lachish the king of Assyria sent the cupbearer-in-chief with a large force to King Hezekiah inJerusalem. The cupbearer-in-chief took up position near the conduit of the upper pool on the road to the Ful er'sField.	2 Desde Laquis, el rey de Asiria envió a Jerusalén, donde estaba Ezequías, al copero mayor acompañado de una fuerte escolta. Este se apostó junto al canal de la piscina superior, sobre la senda del campo del Tintorero.
3 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph went out to him.	3 Eliaquím, hijo de Jilquías, el mayordomo de palacio, salió a su encuentro, con Sebná, el secretario, y Joaj, hijo de Asaf, el archivista.
4 The cupbearer-in-chief said to them, 'Say to Hezekiah, "The great king, the king of Assyria, says this:What makes you so confident?	4 El copero mayor les dijo: «Digan a Ezequías: Así habla el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué motivo tienes para estar tan confiado?
5 Do you think empty words are as good as strategy and military strength? Who are you relying on, todare to rebel against me?	5 ¿Piensas que la estrategia y la valentía para el combate son cuestión de palabras? ¿En quién confías para rebelarte contra mí?
6 There you are, relying on that broken reed, Egypt, which pricks and pierces the hand of the person wholeans on it. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt is like to al who rely on him.	6 ¡Ah, sí! Tú confías en el apoyo de esa caña quebrada, en Egipto, que perfora y atraviesa la mano de todo el que se apoya en él. Eso es el Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.
7 You may say to me: We rely on Yahweh our God. But haven't his high places and altars beensuppressed by Hezekiah, who told Judah and Jerusalem: This is the altar before which you must worship?	7 Seguramente, tú me dirás: Nosotros confiamos en el Señor, nuestro Dios. Pero ¿no fue acaso Ezequías el que suprimió todos los lugares altos y los altares dedicados a él, diciendo a la gente de Judá y de Jerusalén: «Sólo delante de este altar, ustedes deberán postrarse?».
8 Very wel , then, make a wager with my lord the king of Assyria: I wil give you two thousand horses ifyou can find horsemen to ride them.	8 ¡Y bien! Haz una apuesta con mi señor, el rey de Asiria: ¡Yo te daré dos mil caballos, si puedes conseguir bastantes hombres para montarlos!
9 How could you repulse a single one of the least of my master's soldiers? And yet you have relied onEgypt for chariots and horsemen.	9 ¿Cómo harías retroceder a uno solo de los más insignificantes servidores de mi Señor? Pero tú confías en Egipto para tener carros de guerra y soldados!
10 And lastly, have I marched on this country to lay it waste without warrant from Yahweh? Yahwehhimself said to me: March on this country and lay it waste."	10 ¿Acaso he venido a arrasar este país sin el consentimiento del Señor? Fue el Señor quien me dijo: ¡Sube a ese país, y arrásalo!».
11 Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to the cupbearer-in-chief, 'Please speak to your servants in Aramaic,for we understand it; do not speak to us in the Judaean language within earshot of the people on the ramparts.'	11 Eliaquím, Sebná y Joaj dijeron al copero mayor: «Por favor, háblanos en arameo, porque nosotros lo entendemos. No nos hables en hebreo, a oídas del pueblo que está sobre la muralla».
12 But the cupbearer-in-chief said, 'Do you think my lord sent me here to say these things to your masteror to you? On the contrary, it was to the people sitting on the ramparts who, like you, are doomed to eat theirown dung and drink their own urine.'	12 Pero el copero mayor les replicó: «¿Acaso mi señor me envió a decir estas cosas a tu señor y a ti? ¿No estarán dirigidas a esos hombres apostados sobre la muralla, que tendrán que comer sus excrementos y beber su orina, igual que ustedes?».
13 The cupbearer-in-chief then drew himself up and shouted loudly in the Judaean language, 'Listen tothe words of the great king, the king of Assyria.	13 Entonces el copero mayor, puesto de pie, gritó bien fuerte en hebreo: «Escuchen las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria:
14 The king says this, "Do not let Hezekiah delude you! He wil be powerless to save you.	14 Así habla el rey: Que Ezequías no los engaña, porque él no podrá librarlos.
15 Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on Yahweh by saying: Yahweh is sure to save us; this citywil not fal into the king of Assyria's clutches.	15 Y que Ezequías no los induzca a confiar en el Señor, diciendo: Seguramente el Señor nos librará, y esta ciudad no caerá en manos del rey de Asiria.
16 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says this: Make peace with me,	16 No le hagan caso a Ezequías, porque así habla el rey de Asiria: Hagan las paces conmigo y ríndanse. Así cada uno de ustedes comerá los frutos de su viña y de su higuera, y beberá el agua de su pozo,
17 surrender to me, and every one of you wil be free to eat the fruit of his own vine and of his own figtree and to drink the water of his own storage-wel until I come and take you away to a country like your own, aland of corn and good wine, a land of bread and vineyards.	17 hasta que venga yo y los lleve a un país como el de ustedes, un país de trigo y vino nuevo, un país de pan y viñedos.
18 Do not let Hezekiah delude you by saying: Yahweh will save us. Has any god of any nation been ableto save his country from the king of Assyria's clutches?	18 Que Ezequías no los seduzca, diciendo: El Señor nos librará. ¿Acaso los dioses de las naciones han librado a sus países de las manos del rey de Asiria?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Where are thenational gods of Samaria? Did they save Samaria from my clutches?	19 ¿Dónde están los dioses de Jamat y de Arpad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim? ¿ Donde los dioses del país de Samaría? ¿Han librado de mi mano a Samaría?
20 Of al the national gods, which ones have saved their countries from my clutches, that Yahweh shouldbe able to save Jerusalem from my clutches?" '	20 Entre todos los dioses de esos países, ¿hubo alguno que librara de mi mano a su propio país, para que el Señor libre de mi mano a Jerusalén?
21 They, however, kept quiet and said nothing in reply, since the king had given the order, 'You are not toanswer him.'	21 Ellos guardaron silencio y no les respondieron ni una sola palabra, porque esta era la orden del rey: «No le respondan nada».
22 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph, with their clothes torn, went to Hezekiah and reported what the cupbearer-in-chief had said.	22 Eliaquím, hijo de Jilquías, el mayordomo de palacio, Sebná, el secretario, y Joaj, hijo de Asaf, el archivista, se presentaron ante Ezequías con sus vestiduras desgarradas, y lo informaron de las palabras del copero mayor.
