Isaiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem, which he received in the reigns ofUzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah kings of Judah.	1 Visione che Isaia, figlio di Amoz, ebbe su Giuda e su Gerusalemme al tempo dei re di Giuda Ozia, Iotam, Acaz ed Ezechia.
2 Listen, you heavens; earth, attend, for Yahweh is speaking, 'I have reared children and brought them up,but they have rebel ed against me.	2 Udite, o cieli, ascolta, o terra, così parla il Signore: «Ho allevato e fatto crescere figli, ma essi si sono ribellati contro di me.
3 The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master's crib; Israel does not know, my people do notunderstand.'	3 Il bue conosce il suo proprietario e l’asino la greppia del suo padrone, ma Israele non conosce, il mio popolo non comprende».
4 Disaster, sinful nation, people weighed down with guilt, race of wrong-doers, perverted children! Theyhave abandoned Yahweh, despised the Holy One of Israel, they have turned away from him.	4 Guai, gente peccatrice, popolo carico d’iniquità! Razza di scellerati, figli corrotti! Hanno abbandonato il Signore, hanno disprezzato il Santo d’Israele, si sono voltati indietro.
5 Where shal I strike you next, if you persist in treason? The whole head is sick, the whole heart isdiseased,	5 Perché volete ancora essere colpiti, accumulando ribellioni? Tutta la testa è malata, tutto il cuore langue.
6 from the sole of the foot to the head there is nothing healthy: only wounds, bruises and open sores notdressed, not bandaged, not soothed with ointment,	6 Dalla pianta dei piedi alla testa non c’è nulla di sano, ma ferite e lividure e piaghe aperte, che non sono state ripulite né fasciate né curate con olio.
7 your country a desolation, your towns burnt down, your soil, foreigners lay it waste before your eyes, adesolation like devastation by foreigners.	7 La vostra terra è un deserto, le vostre città arse dal fuoco. La vostra campagna, sotto i vostri occhi, la divorano gli stranieri; è un deserto come la devastazione di Sòdoma.
8 The daughter of Zion is left like a shanty in a vineyard, like a shed in a cucumber field, like a citybesieged.	8 È rimasta sola la figlia di Sion, come una capanna in una vigna, come una tenda in un campo di cetrioli, come una città assediata.
9 Had Yahweh Sabaoth not left us a few survivors, we should be like Sodom, we should be the same asGomorrah.	9 Se il Signore degli eserciti non ci avesse lasciato qualche superstite, già saremmo come Sòdoma, assomiglieremmo a Gomorra.
10 Hear what Yahweh says, you rulers of Sodom; listen to what our God teaches, you people ofGomorrah.	10 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, capi di Sòdoma; prestate orecchio all’insegnamento del nostro Dio, popolo di Gomorra!
11 'What are your endless sacrifices to me?' says Yahweh. 'I am sick of burnt offerings of rams and the fatof calves. I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.	11 «Perché mi offrite i vostri sacrifici senza numero? – dice il Signore. Sono sazio degli olocausti di montoni e del grasso di pingui vitelli. Il sangue di tori e di agnelli e di capri io non lo gradisco.
12 When you come and present yourselves before me, who has asked you to trample through my courts?	12 Quando venite a presentarvi a me, chi richiede a voi questo: che veniate a calpestare i miei atri?
13 Bring no more futile cereal offerings, the smoke from them fil s me with disgust. New Moons, Sabbaths,assemblies -- I cannot endure solemnity combined with guilt.	13 Smettete di presentare offerte inutili; l’incenso per me è un abominio, i noviluni, i sabati e le assemblee sacre: non posso sopportare delitto e solennità.
14 Your New Moons and your meetings I utterly detest; to me they are a burden I am tired of bearing.	14 Io detesto i vostri noviluni e le vostre feste; per me sono un peso, sono stanco di sopportarli.
15 When you stretch out your hands I turn my eyes away. You may multiply your prayers, I shal not belistening. Your hands are covered in blood,	15 Quando stendete le mani, io distolgo gli occhi da voi. Anche se moltiplicaste le preghiere, io non ascolterei: le vostre mani grondano sangue.
16 wash, make yourselves clean. Take your wrong-doing out of my sight. Cease doing evil.	16 Lavatevi, purificatevi, allontanate dai miei occhi il male delle vostre azioni. Cessate di fare il male,
17 Learn to do good, search for justice, discipline the violent, be just to the orphan, plead for the widow.	17 imparate a fare il bene, cercate la giustizia, soccorrete l’oppresso, rendete giustizia all’orfano, difendete la causa della vedova».
18 'Come, let us talk this over,' says Yahweh. 'Though your sins are like scarlet, they shal be white assnow; though they are red as crimson, they shal be like wool.	18 «Su, venite e discutiamo – dice il Signore. Anche se i vostri peccati fossero come scarlatto, diventeranno bianchi come neve. Se fossero rossi come porpora, diventeranno come lana.
19 If you are willing to obey, you shall eat the good things of the earth.	19 Se sarete docili e ascolterete, mangerete i frutti della terra.
20 But if you refuse and rebel, the sword shal eat you instead -- for Yahweh's mouth has spoken.'	20 Ma se vi ostinate e vi ribellate, sarete divorati dalla spada, perché la bocca del Signore ha parlato».
21 The faithful city, what a harlot she has become! Zion, once ful of fair judgement, where saving justiceused to dwell, but now assassins!	21 Come mai la città fedele è diventata una prostituta? Era piena di rettitudine, vi dimorava la giustizia, ora invece è piena di assassini!
22 Your silver has turned into dross, your wine is watered.	22 Il tuo argento è diventato scoria, il tuo vino è diluito con acqua.
23 Your princes are rebels, accomplices of brigands. Al of them greedy for presents and eager for bribes,they show no justice to the orphan, and the widow's cause never reaches them.	23 I tuoi capi sono ribelli e complici di ladri. Tutti sono bramosi di regali e ricercano mance. Non rendono giustizia all’orfano e la causa della vedova fino a loro non giunge.
24 Hence, the Lord Yahweh Sabaoth, the Mighty One of Israel, says this, 'Disaster, I shall get the better ofmy enemies, I shall avenge myself on my foes.	24 Perciò, oracolo del Signore, Dio degli eserciti, il Potente d’Israele: «Guai! Esigerò soddisfazioni dai miei avversari, mi vendicherò dei miei nemici.
25 'I shal turn my hand against you, I shal purge your dross as though with potash, I shal remove al youral oy.	25 Stenderò la mia mano su di te, purificherò come in un forno le tue scorie, eliminerò da te tutto il piombo.
26 'And I shal restore your judges as at first, your counsel ors as in bygone days, after which you wil becal ed City of Saving Justice, Faithful City.'	26 Renderò i tuoi giudici come una volta, i tuoi consiglieri come al principio. Allora sarai chiamata “Città della giustizia”, “Città fedele”».
27 Zion wil be redeemed by fair judgement, and those who return, by saving justice.	27 Sion sarà riscattata con il giudizio, i suoi convertiti con la rettitudine.
28 Rebels and sinners alike wil be destroyed, and those who abandon Yahweh wil perish.	28 Ribelli e peccatori insieme finiranno in rovina e periranno quanti abbandonano il Signore.
29 How ashamed you wil be of the terebinths which gave you such delight; and how you wil blush for thegardens which you chose!	29 Sì, vi vergognerete delle querce di cui vi siete compiaciuti. Arrossirete dei giardini che vi siete scelti,
30 For you wil be like a terebinth with faded leaves, like a garden without water;	30 Sì, diventerete come quercia dalle foglie avvizzite e come giardino senz’acqua.
31 the strong wil become like tinder, his work like the spark; both wil go up in flames together, with no oneto put them out.	31 Il forte diverrà come stoppa, la sua opera come una favilla; bruceranno tutte e due insieme e nessuno le spegnerà.
