Sirach 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Do not try conclusions with anyone influential, in case you later fal into his clutches.	1 No disputes con hombre poderoso, no sea que caigas en sus manos.
2 Do not quarrel with anyone rich, in case he puts his weight against you; for gold has destroyed many,and has swayed the hearts of kings.	2 No discutas con hombre rico, no sea que te venza con su peso. Porque a muchos perdió el oro, hasta los corazones de los reyes descarrió.
3 Do not argue with anyone argumentative, do not pile wood on that fire.	3 No disputes con hombre charlatán, no eches más leña a su fuego.
4 Do not joke with anyone uncouth, for fear of hearing your ancestors insulted.	4 No bromees con el ineducado, para que tus mayores no queden en deshonra.
5 Do not revile a repentant sinner; remember that we al are guilty.	5 No reproches al hombre que se vuelve del pecado, recuerda que culpables somos todos.
6 Do not despise anyone in old age; after all, some of us too are growing old.	6 No deshonres al hombre en su vejez, que entre nosotros también se llega a viejos.
7 Do not gloat over anyone's death; remember that we al have to die.	7 No te alegres de la muerte de nadie, recuerda que todos moriremos.
8 Do not scorn the discourse of the wise, but make yourself familiar with their maxims, since from theseyou wil learn the theory and the art of serving the great.	8 No dedeñes lo que narran los sabios, vuelve a menudo a sus proverbios, que de ellos aprenderás doctrina y el modo de servir a los grandes.
9 Do not dismiss what the old people have to say, for they too were taught by their parents; from them youwil learn how to think, and the art of the timely answer.	9 No desprecies lo que cuentan los viejos, que ellos también han aprendido de sus padres; pues de ellos aprenderás prudencia y a dar respuesta en el momento justo.
10 Do not kindle the coals of the sinner, in case you scorch yourself in his blaze.	10 No enciendas los carbones del pecador, no sea que te abrases en el fuego de su llama.
11 Refuse to be provoked by the insolent, for fear that such a one try to trap you in your words.	11 No te encares con el insolente, para que no sea como trampa tendida a tu boca.
12 Do not lend to anyone who is stronger than you are -- if you do lend, resign yourself to loss.	12 No prestes al que puede más que tú; si prestas, dalo por perdido.
13 Do not stand surety beyond your means; if you do stand surety, be prepared to pay up.	13 No salgas fiador por encima de tus medios; si lo haces, date por deudor.
14 Do not go to law with a judge, since judgement wil be given in his favour.	14 No entres en pleito con un juez, que por su dignidad fallarán en su favor.
15 Do not go travel ing with a rash man, for fear he becomes burdensome to you; he wil act as the whimtakes him, and you wil both be ruined by his fol y.	15 Con el osado no te pongas en camino, para que no te agote, pues él procederá a su antojo, y por su locura te perderás con él.
16 Do not argue with a quick-tempered man, do not go with him where there are no other people, sinceblood counts for nothing in his eyes, and where no help is to be had, he wil strike you down.	16 Con el colérico no entres en pelea, ni te adentres con él en el desierto, porque a sus ojos nada es la sangre, y donde no haya quien te auxilie se echará sobre ti.
17 Do not ask a fool for advice, since a fool wil not be able to keep a confidence.	17 No le pidas consejo al insensato, pues no podrá mantenerlo en silencio.
18 In a stranger's presence do nothing that should be kept secret, since you cannot tel what use thestranger will make of it.	18 Delante de un extraño no hagas cosa secreta, pues no sabes qué inventará después.
19 Do not open your heart to al comers, nor lay claim to their good offices.	19 No abras tu corazón a todo el mundo, pues no te han de compensar con gracia alguna.
