Sirach 49

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The memory of Josiah is like blended incense prepared by the perfumer's art; it is as sweet as honey toal mouths, and like music at a wine feast.	1 Il ricordo di Giosia è come una mistura d'incenso preparata con l'arte del profumiere, è dolce, in ogni bocca, come il miele, è come musica in un convito con vino.
2 He took the right course, of converting the people, he rooted out the iniquitous abominations,	2 Ha voluto la riforma del popolo che era giusta, ha distrutto gli abomini idolatrici contrari alla legge.
3 he set his heart on the Lord, in godless times he upheld the cause of religion.	3 Ha avuto il cuore retto con il Signore, quando imperversava l'empietà ha favorito la pietà.
4 Apart from David, Hezekiah and Josiah, they al heaped wrong on wrong, they abandoned the Law ofthe Most High: the kings of Judah disappeared;	4 Ad eccezione di Davide, Ezechia e Giosia, tutti sono stati perversi; avendo abbandonato la legge dell'Altissimo i re di Giuda hanno avuto la loro fine.
5 for they handed their power over to others and their honour to a foreign nation.	5 Hanno consegnato il loro potere agli altri, la loro gloria ad una nazione straniera,
6 The holy, chosen city was burnt down, her streets were left deserted,	6 che ha incendiato la città eletta del tempio e ha reso deserte le sue strade,
7 as Jeremiah had predicted; for they had il -treated him, though consecrated a prophet in his mother'swomb, to tear up and afflict and destroy, but also to build up and to plant.	7 secondo la profezia fatta da Geremia. L'hanno infatti amareggiato, lui, profeta santificato nell'utero per sradicare, distruggere e perdere, ma anche per costruire e piantare.
8 Ezekiel saw a vision of glory which God showed to him above the chariot of the great winged creatures,	8 Ezechiele ebbe la visione della gloria portata sul carro dai cherubini.
9 for he mentioned the enemies in the downpour to the advantage of those who fol ow the right way.	9 Dio si è ricordato dei nemici mandando la bufera, ma ha salvato quelli che vanno per vie diritte.
10 As for the twelve prophets, may their bones flower again from the tomb, since they have comfortedJacob and redeemed him in faith and hope.	10 Possano le ossa dei dodici profeti germogliare dalla loro tomba, perché hanno consolato Giacobbe, l'hanno riscattato con la loro confidente speranza.
11 How shal we extol Zerubbabel? He was like a signet ring on the right hand,	11 Come possiamo onorare Zorobabele, che è come un sigillo sulla mano destra?
12 so too was Joshua son of Jozadak; they who in their days built the Temple and raised a sanctuarysacred to the Lord, destined to everlasting glory.	12 Era con lui Giosuè, figlio di Iozedek; nei loro giorni hanno costruito la casa, hanno elevato un tempio sacro al Signore, destinato a una gloria senza fine.
13 Great too is the memory of Nehemiah, who rebuilt our wal s which lay in ruins, erected the boltedgates and rebuilt our houses.	13 Molto grande è il ricordo di Neemia che ha ricostruito le nostre mura cadute, vi ha posto le porte e i catenacci, ha fatto risorgere le nostre case.
14 No one else has ever been created on earth to equal Enoch, for he was taken up from earth.	14 Nessuno fu creato sulla terra uguale a Enoch, perciò fu fatto ascendere dalla terra.
15 And no one else ever born has been like Joseph, the leader of his brothers, the prop of his people; hisbones received a visitation.	15 Né è nato un uomo come Giuseppe, guida dei fratelli e sostegno del popolo, le cui ossa sono state onorate.
16 Shem and Seth were the most honoured of men, but above every living creature is Adam.	16 Sem e Set hanno avuto molta gloria tra gli uomini, ma più di ogni vivente spicca nella creazione Adamo.
