Sirach 49

1 The memory of Josiah is like blended incense prepared by the perfumer's art; it is as sweet as honey toal mouths, and like music at a wine feast.	1 Il ricordo di Giosia è come una mistura d’incenso, preparata dall’arte del profumiere. In ogni bocca è dolce come il miele, come musica in un banchetto.
2 He took the right course, of converting the people, he rooted out the iniquitous abominations,	2 Egli si dedicò alla riforma del popolo e sradicò gli abomini dell’empietà.
3 he set his heart on the Lord, in godless times he upheld the cause of religion.	3 Diresse il suo cuore verso il Signore, in un’epoca d’iniqui riaffermò la pietà.
4 Apart from David, Hezekiah and Josiah, they al heaped wrong on wrong, they abandoned the Law ofthe Most High: the kings of Judah disappeared;	4 Se si eccettuano Davide, Ezechia e Giosia, tutti agirono perversamente; poiché avevano abbandonato la legge dell’Altissimo, i re di Giuda scomparvero.
5 for they handed their power over to others and their honour to a foreign nation.	5 Lasciarono infatti il loro potere ad altri, la loro gloria a una nazione straniera.
6 The holy, chosen city was burnt down, her streets were left deserted,	6 I nemici incendiarono l’eletta città del santuario, resero deserte le sue strade,
7 as Jeremiah had predicted; for they had il -treated him, though consecrated a prophet in his mother'swomb, to tear up and afflict and destroy, but also to build up and to plant.	7 secondo la parola di Geremia, che essi però maltrattarono, benché fosse stato consacrato profeta nel seno materno, per estirpare, distruggere e mandare in rovina, ma anche per costruire e piantare.
8 Ezekiel saw a vision of glory which God showed to him above the chariot of the great winged creatures,	8 Ezechiele contemplò una visione di gloria, che Dio gli mostrò sul carro dei cherubini.
9 for he mentioned the enemies in the downpour to the advantage of those who fol ow the right way.	9 Si ricordò dei nemici nell’uragano, beneficò quanti camminavano nella retta via.
10 As for the twelve prophets, may their bones flower again from the tomb, since they have comfortedJacob and redeemed him in faith and hope.	10 Le ossa dei dodici profeti rifioriscano dalla loro tomba, perché essi hanno consolato Giacobbe, lo hanno riscattato con la loro confidente speranza.
11 How shal we extol Zerubbabel? He was like a signet ring on the right hand,	11 Come elogiare Zorobabele? Egli è come un sigillo nella mano destra;
12 so too was Joshua son of Jozadak; they who in their days built the Temple and raised a sanctuarysacred to the Lord, destined to everlasting glory.	12 così anche Giosuè figlio di Iosedek: nei loro giorni hanno riedificato la casa, hanno elevato al Signore un tempio santo, destinato a una gloria eterna.
13 Great too is the memory of Nehemiah, who rebuilt our wal s which lay in ruins, erected the boltedgates and rebuilt our houses.	13 Anche la memoria di Neemia durerà a lungo; egli rialzò le nostre mura demolite, vi pose porte e sbarre e fece risorgere le nostre case.
14 No one else has ever been created on earth to equal Enoch, for he was taken up from earth.	14 Nessuno sulla terra fu creato eguale a Enoc; difatti egli fu assunto dalla terra.
15 And no one else ever born has been like Joseph, the leader of his brothers, the prop of his people; hisbones received a visitation.	15 Non nacque un altro uomo come Giuseppe, guida dei fratelli, sostegno del popolo; perfino le sue ossa furono onorate.
16 Shem and Seth were the most honoured of men, but above every living creature is Adam.	16 Sem e Set furono glorificati fra gli uomini, ma, nella creazione, superiore a ogni vivente è Adamo.
