Sirach 49

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 The memory of Josiah is like blended incense prepared by the perfumer's art; it is as sweet as honey toal mouths, and like music at a wine feast.	1 - La memoria di Josla è come un'odorosa mescolanza, preparata [per] opera d'un profumiere.
2 He took the right course, of converting the people, he rooted out the iniquitous abominations,	2 La sua memoria è dolce come miele ad ogni bocca, e come una musica in un simposio.
3 he set his heart on the Lord, in godless times he upheld the cause of religion.	3 Egli fu diretto da Dio nel convertire il popolo, e tolse di mezzo le abominazioni dell'empietà.
4 Apart from David, Hezekiah and Josiah, they al heaped wrong on wrong, they abandoned the Law ofthe Most High: the kings of Judah disappeared;	4 E volse al Signore il suo cuore, e ne' giorni degl'iniqui corroborò la pietà.
5 for they handed their power over to others and their honour to a foreign nation.	5 Fuori di David ed Ezechia e Josla, tutti [gli altri] precipitaron nella colpa.
6 The holy, chosen city was burnt down, her streets were left deserted,	6 Abbandonarono la legge dell'Altissimo i re di Giuda, e disprezzarono il timor di Dio.
7 as Jeremiah had predicted; for they had il -treated him, though consecrated a prophet in his mother'swomb, to tear up and afflict and destroy, but also to build up and to plant.	7 Dovettero cedere il regno loro ad altri, e la loro gloria a una nazione straniera.
8 Ezekiel saw a vision of glory which God showed to him above the chariot of the great winged creatures,	8 Incendiarono la città santa, e fecero deserte le sue vie, a cagione di Geremia,
9 for he mentioned the enemies in the downpour to the advantage of those who fol ow the right way.	9 perchè l'avevan maltrattato, lui che dal seno di sua madre era stato consacrato profeta, per abbattere, sradicare e distruggere e similmente per edificare e piantare.
10 As for the twelve prophets, may their bones flower again from the tomb, since they have comfortedJacob and redeemed him in faith and hope.	10 Ezechiele vide la visione della gloria, che [il Signore] gli mostrò sul carro de' cherubini.
11 How shal we extol Zerubbabel? He was like a signet ring on the right hand,	11 Perchè si ricordò de' nemici nell'[allegoria] dell'uragano, e di far del bene a coloro che tenevan la via diritta.
12 so too was Joshua son of Jozadak; they who in their days built the Temple and raised a sanctuarysacred to the Lord, destined to everlasting glory.	12 E' de dodici profeti rifioriscan le ossa su dalla tomba. Perchè confortarono Giacobbe, e lo liberarono con la forte speranza.
13 Great too is the memory of Nehemiah, who rebuilt our wal s which lay in ruins, erected the boltedgates and rebuilt our houses.	13 Come magniflcheremo Zorobabele? egli fu come un sigillo nella mano destra.
14 No one else has ever been created on earth to equal Enoch, for he was taken up from earth.	14 Così anche Gesù, figliuolo di Josedec, i quali a' loro giorni [ri]ediflcaron la casa [di Dio], e inalzarono il tempio santo al Signore, destinato a gloria eterna.
15 And no one else ever born has been like Joseph, the leader of his brothers, the prop of his people; hisbones received a visitation.	15 Anche di Neemia durerà per lungo tempo la memoria, il quale rialzò a noi le mura abbattute, e [ri] stabili le porte e le spranghe, e rialzò le nostre case.
16 Shem and Seth were the most honoured of men, but above every living creature is Adam.	16 Non nacque altri in terra pari a Henoc, perchè anch'egli fu rapito dalla terra.
	17 Nè uomo nacque simile a Giuseppe, capo de' fratelli, sostegno della nazione, guida de' fratelli, appoggio del popolo.
	18 E le sue ossa furono oggetto di cura, e dopo la morte profetarono.
	19 Set e Sem acquistarono gloria tra gli uomini; ma sopra ogni vivente, nella creazione, [sta] Adamo.
