Sirach 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Whoever touches pitch will be defiled, and anyone who associates with the proud wil come to be likethem.	1 - Chi tocca la pece, ne rimane insudiciato, e chi se la fa col superbo, mette superbia.
2 Do not try to carry a burden too heavy for you, do not associate with someone more powerful andwealthy than yourself. Why put the clay pot next to the iron cauldron? It wil only break when they bang againsteach other.	2 Solleva un peso superiore alle sue forze chi se la fa con uno più nobile di lui: non ti accompagnare con uno più ricco!
3 The rich does wrong and takes a high line; the poor is wronged and has to beg for pardon.	3 Come può la caldaia far lega con la pentola? Quando s'urteranno, questa andrà in pezzi.
4 If you are useful the rich will exploit you, if you go bankrupt he wil desert you.	4 Il ricco fa un'ingiustizia e sbuffa! il povero è maltrattato, e zitto.
5 Are you well off? - he wil live with you, he will clean you out without a single qualm.	5 Se gli apporti [utilità], ti piglierò (con sè], e se non hai [più nulla], ti abbandonerà.
6 Does he need you? - he will hoodwink you, smile at you and raise your hopes; he wil speak politely toyou and say, 'Is there anything you need?'	6 Se possiedi [qualcosa], conviverà con te, e ti spoglierà e non si crucccrà con te.
7 He will make you feel smal at his dinner parties and, having cleaned you out two or three times over,wil end by laughing at you. Afterwards, when he sees you, he will avoid you and shake his head about you.	7 Se avrà bisogno di te, ti abbindolerà, e sorridente ti darà speranze; ti sarà largo di buone parole, e dirà: «Di che hai bisogno?».
8 Take care you are not hoodwinked and thus humiliated through your own stupidity.	8 E ti confonderà con i suoi banchetti, fino a che in due o tre volte t'abbia esaurito, e all'ultimo si farà beffe di te. E più tardi, ti vedrà e ti volterà le spalle, e scuoterà il capo [con spregio] verso di te.
9 When an influential person invites you, show reluctance, and he will press his invitation all the more.	9 Umiliati [allora] a Dio, e aspetta la sua mano.
10 Do not thrust yourself forward, in case you are pushed aside, but do not stand aloof, or you will beoverlooked.	10 Guarda di non lasciarti sedurre, e di non umiliarti [sino] alla stoltezza.
11 Do not affect to treat him as an equal, do not trust his flow of words; since all this talking is expresslymeant to test you, under cover of geniality he wil be weighing you up.	11 Non esser [abblcttamente] umile nella tua saggezza, perchè umiliato, tu non sia sedotto a seguir stoltezza.
12 Pitiless is anyone who retails gossip; he wil not spare you either blows or chains.	12 Se uno più potente t'invita, fatti addietro; perchè così t'inviterà maggiormente.
13 Be wary, take very great care, because you are walking with your own downfal .	13 Non far l'intruso, per non esser respinto, e non tenerti lontano, per non esser dimenticato.
14	14 Non ti mettere a parlar con lui alla pari, e non ti fidare delle molte sue parole; perchè col [suo] gran discorrere ti tenterà, e sorridendo ti caverà di bocca i tuoi segreti.
15 Every living thing loves its own sort, and every man his fel ow.	15 L'animo spietato di lui conserverà le tue parole, e non ti risparmierà guai e catene.
16 Every creature mixes with its kind, and human beings stick to their own sort.	16 Sta' in guardia e poni ben mente a ciò che ascolti, perchè passeggi con la tua rovina [a fianco].
17 How can wolf and lamb agree? - Just so with sinner and devout.	17 Ascoltando tali cose guarda come trasognato e sta' sveglio.
18 What peace can there be between hyena and dog? And what peace between rich and poor?	18 Per tutta la tua vita ama Dio e invocalo a tua salvezza.
19 Wild desert donkeys are the prey of lions; so too, the poor is the quarry of the rich.	19 Ogni animale ama il suo simile: così anche ogni uomo il suo vicino.
20 The proud thinks humility abhorrent; so too, the rich abominates the poor.	20 Ogni carne s'unisce col suo congenere, e ogni uomo s'associa col suo simile.
21 When the rich stumbles he is supported by friends; when the poor fal s, his friends push him away.	21 Il lupo avrà mai qualcosa di comune con l'agnello? così il peccatore col giusto!
22 When the rich slips, there are many hands to catch him, if he talks nonsense he is congratulated. Thepoor slips, and is blamed for it, he may talk good sense, but no room is made for him.	22 Quale relazione cl può esser tra la iena e il cane? e quale comunanza tra il ricco e il povero?
23 The rich speaks and everyone stops talking, and then they praise his discourse to the skies. The poorspeaks and people say, 'Who is this?' and if he stumbles, they trip him up yet more.	23 Preda del leone è l'onagro nel deserto, e così pasto de' ricchi sono i poveri.
24 Wealth is good where there is no sin, poverty is evil, the godless say.	24 E come è un'abominazione l'umiltà per il superbo, così è un'esecrazione il povero per il ricco.
25 The heart moulds a person's expression whether for better or worse.	25 Il ricco, se tentenna, è sorretto da' suoi amici, il povero, se cade, è buttato via anche da' suoi conoscenti.
26 Happy heart, cheerful expression; but wearisome work, inventing proverbs.	26 Se precipita il ricco, molti sono i soccorritori: dice cose insensate, e quelli gli dan ragione.
	27 Precipita il povero? e rimproverato per giunta: dice cose sensate e non gli si dà retta.
	28 Parla il ricco e tutti fan silenzio, e portano alle stelle le sue parole.
	29 Parla il povero, e dicono: «Chi è costui?», e se incespica, lo buttano a terra.
	30 Buona è la ricchezza, che non ha il peccato sulla coscienza e trista è la povertà [solo] in bocca all'empio.
	31 Il cuore dell'uomo ne cambia il volto, sia in bene, sia in male.
	32 Il segno d'un cuore felice, un volto ilare, lo troverai diffìcilmente e con pena.
