Ecclesiastes/Qohelet 6

1 I see another evil under the sun, which goes hard with people:	1 E un'altra rea cosa ho veduta sotto il sole; e questo avviene spesso (cioè) agli uomini:
2 suppose someone has received from God riches, property, honours -- nothing at al left to wish for; butGod does not give the chance to enjoy them, and some stranger enjoys them. This is futile, and grievoussuffering too.	2 che Iddio ha dato (spesso) a molti uomini ricchezze e possessioni e onori, e non gli manca nessuna cosa che il suo cuore voglia; ma non gli darà Iddio tanta grazia ch' egli ne possa mangiare e usare, anzi le goderà persona strana; e ancora questa sì è grande vanitade e miseria (e disventura).
3 Or take someone who has had a hundred children and lived for many years, and, having reached oldage, has never enjoyed the good things of life and has not even got a tomb; it seems to me, a still-born child ishappier.	3 Or che pro' è a colui che ha generati cento figliuoli, e viva assai quanto volesse, s' egli non ha che mangiare in vita sua, e nella morte non ha sepoltura? Di questo do io sentenza, ch' egli fosse meglio ch' egli non fosse nato.
4 In futility it came, into darkness it departs, and in darkness will its name be buried.	4 E indarno nacque, e vanne alle tenebre, e sarà spenta la sua memoria.
5 It has never so much as seen or known the sun; al the same, it wil rest more easily than that person,	5 Elli non vide il sole, e non conobbe il vario dal male al bene.
6 who would never have known the good things of life, even by living a thousand years twice over. Do wenot al go to the same place in the end?	6 E se egli fusse vivuto due migliaia di anni, elli non averebbe mai avuto bene; or non va ogni cosa ad uno luogo?
7 Al toil is for the mouth, yet the appetite is never satisfied.	7 Ogni fatica dell' uomo (curioso a contendere) terminerà nel suo parlare; e l'anima sua non si riempierà (di beni).
8 What advantage has the wise over the fool? And what of the pauper who knows how to behave insociety?	8 Or che ha più il savio uomo, che lo stolto e il povero, se non ch' elli (non muoiono e) vanno dov'è la vita?
9 Better the object seen than the sting of desire: for the latter too is futile and chasing after the wind.	9 Meglio è a vedere quello che tu desideri, che desiderare quello che tu non sai; e ancora questo è vanitade, e temeritade d'animo.
10 What has been is already defined -- we know what people are: They cannot bring to justice one who isstronger than themselves.	10 Già il nome di colui, il quale non è ancora nato, è stato conosciuto (da Dio) chi elli sia, il quale non puote contrastare contro più forte di sè (nè contendere) in giudicio.
11 The more we say, the more futile it is: what good can we derive from it?	11 Molte sono le parole, molte sono le vanitadi nelle disputazioni.
12 And who knows what is best for someone during life, during the days of futile life which are spent like ashadow? Who can tel anyone what wil happen after him under the sun?
