1 I see another evil under the sun, which goes hard with people:	1 Havvi ancora un'altra miseria, ch'io vidi sotto del sole, ed anche usitata tra gli uomini:
2 suppose someone has received from God riches, property, honours -- nothing at al left to wish for; butGod does not give the chance to enjoy them, and some stranger enjoys them. This is futile, and grievoussuffering too.	2 Un uomo, a cui Dio ha date ricchezze, e beni, ed a cui nulla manca di tutto quello che ei può bramare in cuor suo; e Dio non gli da facoltà di mangiarne; ma il tutto sel divorerà un estraneo: questa è vanità, e miseria grande.
3 Or take someone who has had a hundred children and lived for many years, and, having reached oldage, has never enjoyed the good things of life and has not even got a tomb; it seems to me, a still-born child ishappier.	3 Se uno avrà generati cento figliuoli, e sarà vissuto molti anni, e fino all'età più avanzata, e l'anima di lui non avrà fatto uso dei beni, ch'egli possiede, ed ei resterà privo di sepoltura, riguardo a costui io decido, che val più di lui un aborto.
4 In futility it came, into darkness it departs, and in darkness will its name be buried.	4 Perocché costui senz'alcun prò viene al mondo e se ne va nelle tenebre e il suo nome è sepolto nell'oblio.
5 It has never so much as seen or known the sun; al the same, it wil rest more easily than that person,	5 Ei non ha veduto il sole, e non ha conosciuta la distanza del bene dal male:
6 who would never have known the good things of life, even by living a thousand years twice over. Do wenot al go to the same place in the end?	6 Qnand'egli avesse vivuto due mila anni; s'ei non lui goduti i beni: tutte le cose non corron elle verso lo stesso luogo?
7 Al toil is for the mouth, yet the appetite is never satisfied.	7 Tutte le fatiche dell'uomo son perla bocca: mal'anima di lui non si sazierà.
8 What advantage has the wise over the fool? And what of the pauper who knows how to behave insociety?	8 Che ha egli il saggio, di più dello stolto! E che ha il povero se non d'incamminarsi verso quel luogo, dove è la vita?
9 Better the object seen than the sting of desire: for the latter too is futile and chasing after the wind.	9 E meglio vedere quel che tu brami, che desiderare quello che tu non sai: ma questo pure è vanità, e presunzione di spirito.
10 What has been is already defined -- we know what people are: They cannot bring to justice one who isstronger than themselves.	10 Colui, che deve essere, fu già chiamato pel suo nome; e si sa, ch'egli è uomo, e non può in giudizio contendere contro chi ne può più di lui.
11 The more we say, the more futile it is: what good can we derive from it?	11 Questo è un moltipllcar le parole, nelle quali tralle disputazioni molta vanità si ritrova.
12 And who knows what is best for someone during life, during the days of futile life which are spent like ashadow? Who can tel anyone what wil happen after him under the sun?
