Psalms 124

NEW JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 [Song of Ascents Of David] If Yahweh had not been on our side -- let Israel repeat it-	1 A song of ascents. Of David. I Had not the LORD been with us, let Israel say,
2 if Yahweh had not been on our side when people attacked us,	2 Had not the LORD been with us, when people rose against us,
3 they would have swal owed us alive in the heat of their anger.	3 They would have swallowed us alive, for their fury blazed against us.
4 Then water was washing us away, a torrent running right over us;	4 The waters would have engulfed us, the torrent overwhelmed us;
5 running right over us then were turbulent waters.	5 seething waters would have drowned us.
6 Blessed be Yahweh for not letting us fall a prey to their teeth!	6 Blessed be the LORD, who did not leave us to be torn by their fangs.
7 We escaped like a bird from the fowlers' net. The net was broken and we escaped;	7 We escaped with our lives like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare was broken and we escaped.
8 our help is in the name of Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.	8 Our help is the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.
