¹ Another day, the sons of God came to attend on Yahweh and Satan came with them too.	¹ Or un giorno, quando i figli di Dio andarono a presentarsi davanti al Signore, vi andò tra loro anche Satana a presentarsi.
² So Yahweh said to Satan, 'Where have you been?' 'Prowling about on earth,' he answered, 'roamingaround there.'	² Il Signore disse a Satana: « Donde vieni? » Quello rispondendo disse: « Ho fatto il giro della terra e l'ho scorsa ».
³ So Yahweh asked him, 'Did you pay any attention to my servant Job? There is no one like him on theearth: a sound and honest man who fears God and shuns evil. He persists in his integrity stil ; you achieved nothing by provoking me to ruin him.'	³ E il Signore a Satana: « Hai notato il mio servo Giobbe, come sulla terra non vi sia chi gli somigli, uomo semplice e retto, timorato di Dio e alieno dal male, ed ancora nella sua innocenza? Tu mi hai incitato contro di lui e me l'hai fatto affliggere senza motivo ».
⁴ 'Skin after skin!' Satan replied. 'Someone wil give away al he has to save his life.	⁴ Satana gli rispose: « Pelle per pelle: l'uomo darà quanto possiede per la propria vita.
⁵ But stretch out your hand and lay a finger on his bone and flesh; I warrant you, he wil curse you to yourface.'	⁵ Ma stendi la tua mano a toccare le sue ossa e la sua carne, e vedrai allora come ti maledirà in faccia ».
⁶ 'Very wel ,' Yahweh said to Satan, 'he is in your power. But spare his life.'	⁶ Il Signore pertanto disse a Satana: « Ecco, egli è in tua balia, però salvagli la vita ».
⁷ So Satan left the presence of Yahweh. He struck Job down with malignant ulcers from the sole of hisfoot to the top of his head.	⁷ Or Satana, partitosi dal cospetto del Signore, colpì Giobbe con piaga maligna dalla pianta dei piedi fino al vertice del capo.
⁸ Job took a piece of pot to scrape himself, and went and sat among the ashes.	⁸ Giobbe, preso un coccio, si raschiava la marcia, seduto sopra un letamaio.
⁹ Then his wife said to him, 'Why persist in this integrity of yours? Curse God and die.'	⁹ Sua moglie gli diceva: « Perseveri ancora nella tua semplicità? Ringrazia Dio e muori ».
¹⁰ 'That is how a fool of a woman talks,' Job replied. 'If we take happiness from God's hand, must we nottake sorrow too?' And in al this misfortune Job uttered no sinful word.	¹⁰ Ma Giobbe le rispose: « Tu parli come una scimunita. Se abbiamo ricevuto dalla mano di Dio i beni, perchè non accettarne anche i mali? » In tutto questo, Giobbe non peccò colle sue labbra.
¹¹ The news of al the disasters that had fal en on Job came to the ears of three of his friends. Each ofthem set out from home -- Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath -- and by commonconsent they decided to go and offer him sympathy and consolation.	¹¹ Or tre amici di Giobbe, sentite tutte le sventure accadutegli, vennero ciascuno dal suo paese: Elifaz da Teman, Baldad da Suhe, Sofar da Naama, avendo convenuto d'andare insieme a visitarlo e consolarlo.
¹² Looking at him from a distance, they could not recognise him; they wept aloud and tore their robes andthrew dust over their heads.	¹² Quando, alzati da lontano gli occhi, non lo poterono riconoscere, piansero ad alte grida, e, stracciatesi le vesti, gettaron polvere in aria sopra il loro capo.
¹³ They sat there on the ground beside him for seven days and seven nights. To Job they spoke never aword, for they saw how much he was suffering.	¹³ Poi si sedettero accanto a lui per terra sette giorni e sette notti; ma nessuno di essi gli rivolgeva la parola, perchè vedevano che il dolore era troppo grande.
