Job 2

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Another day, the sons of God came to attend on Yahweh and Satan came with them too.	1 Un autre jour où les Fils de Dieu venaient se présenter devant Yahvé, le Satan aussi s'avançait parmieux.
2 So Yahweh said to Satan, 'Where have you been?' 'Prowling about on earth,' he answered, 'roamingaround there.'	2 Yahvé dit alors au Satan: "D'où viens-tu" -- "De rôder sur la terre, répondit-il, et d'y flâner."
3 So Yahweh asked him, 'Did you pay any attention to my servant Job? There is no one like him on theearth: a sound and honest man who fears God and shuns evil. He persists in his integrity stil ; you achieved nothing by provoking me to ruin him.'	3 Et Yahvé reprit: "As-tu remarqué mon serviteur Job? Il n'a point son pareil sur la terre: un hommeintègre et droit, qui craint Dieu et se garde du mal! Il persévère dans son intégrité et c'est en vain que tu m'asexcité contre lui pour le perdre."
4 'Skin after skin!' Satan replied. 'Someone wil give away al he has to save his life.	4 Et le Satan de répliquer: "Peau après peau. Tout ce que l'homme possède, il l'abandonne pour sauver savie!
5 But stretch out your hand and lay a finger on his bone and flesh; I warrant you, he wil curse you to yourface.'	5 Mais étends la main, touche à ses os et à sa chair; je te jure qu'il te maudira en face" --
6 'Very wel ,' Yahweh said to Satan, 'he is in your power. But spare his life.'	6 "Soit! dit Yahvé au Satan, dispose de lui, mais respecte pourtant sa vie."
7 So Satan left the presence of Yahweh. He struck Job down with malignant ulcers from the sole of hisfoot to the top of his head.	7 Et le Satan sortit de l'audience de Yahvé. Il affligea Job d'un ulcère malin, depuis la plante des piedsjusqu'au sommet de la tête.
8 Job took a piece of pot to scrape himself, and went and sat among the ashes.	8 Job prit un tesson pour se gratter et il s'installa parmi les cendres.
9 Then his wife said to him, 'Why persist in this integrity of yours? Curse God and die.'	9 Alors sa femme lui dit: "Pourquoi persévérer dans ton intégrité? Maudis donc Dieu et meurs!"
10 'That is how a fool of a woman talks,' Job replied. 'If we take happiness from God's hand, must we nottake sorrow too?' And in al this misfortune Job uttered no sinful word.	10 Job lui répondit: "Tu parles comme une folle. Si nous accueillons le bonheur comme un don de Dieu,comment ne pas accepter de même le malheur!" En toute cette infortune, Job ne pécha point en paroles.
11 The news of al the disasters that had fal en on Job came to the ears of three of his friends. Each ofthem set out from home -- Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath -- and by commonconsent they decided to go and offer him sympathy and consolation.	11 La nouvelle de tous les maux qui avaient frappé Job parvint à ses trois amis. Ils partirent chacun de sonpays, Eliphaz de Témân, Bildad de Shuah, Cophar de Naamat. Ensemble, ils décidèrent d'aller le plaindre et leconsoler.
12 Looking at him from a distance, they could not recognise him; they wept aloud and tore their robes andthrew dust over their heads.	12 De loin, fixant les yeux sur lui, ils ne le reconnurent pas. Alors ils éclatèrent en sanglots. Chacundéchira son vêtement et jeta de la poussière sur sa tête.
13 They sat there on the ground beside him for seven days and seven nights. To Job they spoke never aword, for they saw how much he was suffering.	13 Puis, s'asseyant à terre près de lui, ils restèrent ainsi durant sept jours et sept nuits. Aucun ne luiadressa la parole, au spectacle d'une si grande douleur.
