Job 2

1 Another day, the sons of God came to attend on Yahweh and Satan came with them too.	1 - Avvenne pertanto che, essendosi adunati in un certo giorno i figli di Dio per presentarsi al Signore, venne fra loro anche Satana a presentarsi al cospetto di lui;
2 So Yahweh said to Satan, 'Where have you been?' 'Prowling about on earth,' he answered, 'roamingaround there.'	2 e il Signore disse a Satana: «Donde vieni?». E questi rispose: «Ho fatto il giro della terra e l'ho scorsa».
3 So Yahweh asked him, 'Did you pay any attention to my servant Job? There is no one like him on theearth: a sound and honest man who fears God and shuns evil. He persists in his integrity stil ; you achieved nothing by provoking me to ruin him.'	3 E il Signore disse a Satana: «Hai tu notato il mio servo Giobbe, come non vi sia sulla terra uno somigliante a lui, uomo semplice e retto, timorato di Dio e alieno del male, e che conserva ancora l'innocenza? Eppure tu mi istigasti contro di lui, perchè io lo tribolassi senza motivo!».
4 'Skin after skin!' Satan replied. 'Someone wil give away al he has to save his life.	4 E Satana gli rispose dicendo: «Pelle per pelle! Tutto ciò che l'uomo possiede, lo dà in iscambio della sua vita!
5 But stretch out your hand and lay a finger on his bone and flesh; I warrant you, he wil curse you to yourface.'	5 Tu invece prova a stender la tua mano e a toccarlo nell'ossa e nella carne, e allora vedrai ch'egli in faccia tua ti benedirà».
6 'Very wel ,' Yahweh said to Satan, 'he is in your power. But spare his life.'	6 Il Signore disse allora a Satana: «Eccolo in poter tuo; soltanto, salva la sua vita!».
7 So Satan left the presence of Yahweh. He struck Job down with malignant ulcers from the sole of hisfoot to the top of his head.	7 Satana allora, ritiratosi dalla presenza del Signore, colpì Giobbe di un'ulcere maligna dalla pianta dei piedi fino al vertice di lui».
8 Job took a piece of pot to scrape himself, and went and sat among the ashes.	8 Andò egli a dimorare su un letamaio, e con un coccio si grattava la scabbia.
9 Then his wife said to him, 'Why persist in this integrity of yours? Curse God and die.'	9 Gli disse quindi sua moglie: «Resisti tu ancora nella tua rettitudine? Benedici Dio, e poi muori!».
10 'That is how a fool of a woman talks,' Job replied. 'If we take happiness from God's hand, must we nottake sorrow too?' And in al this misfortune Job uttered no sinful word.	10 Ma egli le disse: «Tu parli come una donna stolta! Se abbiamo ricevuto i beni dalla mano di Dio, i mali perchè non dovremmo riceverli?». In tutte queste cose Giobbe non peccò con le sue labbra.
11 The news of al the disasters that had fal en on Job came to the ears of three of his friends. Each ofthem set out from home -- Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath -- and by commonconsent they decided to go and offer him sympathy and consolation.	11 Avendo pertanto udito tre amici di Giobbe tutta la sventura che l'aveva incolto, vennero ciascuno dal proprio luogo, [ed erano] Elifaz il Temanita, Baldad il Suhita e Sofar il Naamatita: costoro infatti s'erano accordati per venire insieme a visitarlo e a consolarlo.
12 Looking at him from a distance, they could not recognise him; they wept aloud and tore their robes andthrew dust over their heads.	12 Ma, alzando gli occhi da lontano, non lo riconobbero: elevarono quindi la voce piangendo, e strappatesi le vesti cosparsero di polvere il loro capo [lanciandola] verso il cielo.
13 They sat there on the ground beside him for seven days and seven nights. To Job they spoke never aword, for they saw how much he was suffering.	13 Rimasero poi seduti presso di lui, per terra, sette giorni e sette notti: nessuno però gli rivolgeva parola alcuna, giacchè vedevano che il dolore era assai grande.
