3 Judas got wind of it and himself moved off with his fighters to strike at the royal army at Emmaus,	3 Mas Judas o soube, e com seus destemidos companheiros saiu para esmagar aquelas forças do rei que tinham ficado perto de Emaús,
4 while its fighting troops were stil dispersed outside the camp.	4 enquanto as tropas estavam espalhadas na planície.
5 Hence, when Gorgias reached Judas' camp, he found no one and began looking for the Jews in themountains. 8 Judas said to his men, 'Do not be afraid of their numbers, and do not flinch at their attack.	8 Não temais seu número, disse Judas a seus companheiros, e nem receeis seu choque.
9 Remember how our ancestors were delivered at the Red Sea when Pharaoh was pursuing them inforce.	9 Lembrai-vos como nossos pais foram salvos no mar Vermelho, quando o faraó os perseguia com seu exército.
10 And now let us cal on Heaven: if he cares for us, he wil remember his covenant with our ancestorsand will destroy this army confronting us today;	10 Gritemos agora para o céu para que ele se apiade de nós, que se lembre da Aliança com nossos antepassados e queira hoje esmagar esse exército aos nossos olhos.
11 then all the nations wil know for certain that there is One who ransoms and saves Israel.'	11 Todas as nações saberão que Israel possui um libertador e um salvador.
12 The foreigners looked up and, seeing the Jews advancing against them,	12 Erguendo os olhos, os gentios viram-nos avançar contra eles
13 came out of the camp to join battle. Judas' men sounded the trumpet	13 e saíram do acampamento para a luta, enquanto os homens de Judas soavam a trombeta.

15 and al the stragglers fel by the sword. 18 Gorgias and his troops are still near us in the mountains. 23 Judas then turned back to plunder the camp, and a large sum in gold and silver, with violet and sea-purple stuffs, and many other valuables were carried off.	23 Judas voltou para pilhar o acampamento, e seus homens apoderaram-se de muito ouro, prata, jacinto, púrpura marinha, e de grandes riquezas.

25 That day had seen a remarkable deliverance in Israel.	25 Israel foi, com efeito, naquele dia salvo de um grande perigo.

29 They advanced into Idumaea and made their base at Beth-Zur, where Judas met them with tenthousand men.	29 Esse exército veio da Iduméia acampar em Betsur. Judas foi-lhe ao encontro com dez mil homens.
30 When he saw their military strength he offered this prayer, 'Blessed are you, Saviour of Israel, whoshattered the mighty warrior's attack at the hand of your servant David, and delivered the Philistine camp into thehands of Jonathan son of Saul, and his armour-bearer.	30 Tendo ante os olhos esse poderoso exército, rezou nestes termos: Sede bendito, Salvador de Israel, vós que quebrastes a força do poderoso pela mão do vosso servo Davi e entregastes os exércitos estrangeiros nas mãos de Jônatas e do seu escudeiro.

34 The two forces engaged, and five thousand men of Lysias' troops fel in hand-to-hand fighting.	34 Travou-se então o combate, e do exército de Lísias tombaram cinco mil homens, que sucumbiram diante deles.
35 Seeing the rout of his army and the courage of Judas' troops and their readiness to live or die nobly,Lysias withdrew to Antioch, where he recruited mercenaries for a further invasion of Judaea in even greaterstrength.	35 Vendo seu exército posto em fuga e os judeus cheios de bravura, prontos a viver ou a morrer valentemente, voltou Lísias a Antioquia para arregimentar tropas de mercenários, com o intuito de reaparecer na Judéia com um exército mais forte.

37 So they marshal ed the whole army, and went up to Mount Zion.	37 Reunido todo o exército, subiram à montanha de Sião.
38 There they found the sanctuary deserted, the altar desecrated, the gates burnt down, and vegetationgrowing in the courts as it might in a wood or on some mountain, while the storerooms were in ruins.	38 Contemplaram a desolação dos lugares santos, o altar profanado, as portas queimadas, os átrios cheios de arbustos que tinham nascido como num bosque ou sobre as colinas, os aposentos demolidos.
