Exodus 21

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'These are the laws you must give them:	1 Queste sono le leggi che esporrai davanti a loro.
2 'When you buy a Hebrew slave, his service will last for six years. In the seventh year he wil leave afree man without paying compensation.	2 Quando acquisterai uno schiavo ebreo, ti servirà per sei anni e al settimo sarà messo in libertà, senza riscatto.
3 If he came single, he wil depart single; if he came married, his wife wil depart with him.	3 Se è venuto solo, solo uscirà; se era sposato, uscirà con la propria moglie.
4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children wilbelong to her master, and he wil depart alone.	4 Se il suo padrone gli ha dato una moglie che gli abbia generato figli e figlie, la moglie e i figli saranno del padrone, e lui uscirà solo.
5 But if the slave says, "I love my master and my wife and children; I do not wish to be freed,"	5 Ma se lo schiavo dice: "Amo il mio padrone, mia moglie e i miei figli: non uscirò libero";
6 then his master wil bring him before God and then, leading him to the door or the doorpost, his masterwil pierce his ear with an awl, and the slave wil be permanently his.	6 allora il suo padrone lo farà avvicinare a Dio, lo farà avvicinare al battente o allo stipite della porta, e gli forerà l'orecchio con un punteruolo e sarà suo schiavo per sempre.
7 If a man sel s his daughter as a slave, she wil not leave as male slaves do.	7 Se uno vende la propria figlia come serva, essa non se ne andrà come se ne vanno gli schiavi:
8 If she does not please her master who intended her for himself, he must let her be bought back: hehas not the right to sell her to foreigners, for this would be a breach of faith with her.	8 se non piace agli occhi del suo padrone, che non la destina per sé come concubina, la lasci riscattare; non è padrone di venderla a un popolo straniero e tradirla.
9 If he intends her for his son, he must treat her as custom requires daughters to be treated.	9 Se la destina a suo figlio, agirà con lei secondo l'usanza delle figlie.
10 If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing or conjugal rights of the first one.	10 Se per sé ne prenderà un'altra, non diminuirà il suo cibo, il suo vestiario e la sua coabitazione:
11 Should he deprive her of these three things she wil leave a free woman, without payingcompensation.	11 se non farà con lei queste tre cose, ella se ne potrà andare senza versare il denaro del riscatto.
12 'Anyone who by violence causes a death must be put to death.	12 Chi colpisce un uomo a morte, sarà messo a morte.
13 If, however, he has not planned to do it but it comes from God by his hand, he can take refuge in aplace which I shal appoint for you.	13 Per chi non è stato in agguato, ma è Dio che glielo ha fatto capitare in mano, ti assegnerò un luogo dove possa fuggire.
14 But should any person dare to kill another with deliberate planning, you wil take that person evenfrom my altar to be put to death.	14 Ma se uno infierisce contro il proprio prossimo per ucciderlo con inganno, lo potrai strappare anche dal mio altare perché sia messo a morte.
15 'Anyone who strikes father or mother wil be put to death.	15 Chi colpisce suo padre o sua madre sarà messo a morte.
16 Anyone who abducts a person -- whether that person has since been sold or is stil held -- wil be putto death.	16 Chi sequestra un uomo e lo vende o si trova in mano sua, sarà messo a morte.
17 Anyone who curses father or mother will be put to death.	17 Chi maledice suo padre o sua madre sarà messo a morte.
18 'If people quarrel and one strikes the other a blow with stone or fist so that the injured party, thoughnot dead, is confined to bed,	18 Se due uomini entrano in contesa e uno colpisce il suo prossimo con una pietra o un pugno, senza farlo morire, ma che si debba mettere a letto:
19 but later recovers and can go about, even with a stick, the one who struck the blow wil have noliability, other than to compensate the injured party for the enforced inactivity and to take care of the injured partyuntil the cure is complete.	19 se poi si alza e se ne va fuori con il suo bastone, chi lo ha colpito sarà ritenuto innocente; non avrà che da retribuire il suo riposo e curarlo.
20 'If someone beats his slave, male or female, and the slave dies at his hands, he must pay thepenalty.	20 Se uno colpisce il suo schiavo o la sua schiava con un bastone e muore sotto la sua mano, si devono vendicare:
21 But should the slave survive for one or two days, he will pay no penalty because the slave is his byright of purchase.	21 se tuttavia reggono un giorno o due, non saranno vendicati, perché sono suo denaro.
22 'If people, when brawling, hurt a pregnant woman and she suffers a miscarriage but no further harmis done, the person responsible wil pay compensation as fixed by the woman's master, paying as much as thejudges decide.	22 Se due uomini litigano o urtano una donna incinta così da farla abortire, ma non ci sia danno, ci sarà un risarcimento, come lo imporrà il marito della donna, e si darà attraverso i giudici.
23 If further harm is done, however, you wil award life for life,	23 Ma se ci sarà danno, le darai vita per vita,
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,	24 occhio per occhio, dente per dente, mano per mano, piede per piede,
25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stroke for stroke.	25 bruciatura per bruciatura, ferita per ferita, piaga per piaga.
26 'If anyone strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys the use of it, he wil give theslave his freedom to compensate for the eye.	26 Se uno colpisce l'occhio del suo schiavo o l'occhio della sua schiava e lo rovina, lo manderà in libertà per il suo occhio;
27 If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he wil give the slave his freedom tocompensate for the tooth.	27 e se fa cadere un dente del suo schiavo o un dente della sua schiava, lo manderà in libertà per il suo dente.
28 'If an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox wil be stoned and its meat wil not be eaten, but theowner of the ox wil not be liable.	28 Se un bue cozza a morte con le corna un uomo o una donna, il bue sarà lapidato: la sua carne non si mangerà e il padrone del bue sarà ritenuto innocente.
29 But if the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and if its owner has been warned but has not keptit under control, then should this ox kil a man or woman, it wil be stoned and its owner put to death.	29 Ma se quel bue cozzava già prima con le corna e si era avvertito il suo padrone senza che lo sorvegliasse, e fa morire un uomo o una donna: il bue sarà lapidato, ma anche il suo padrone dovrà morire.
30 If a ransom is imposed on the owner, he wil pay whatever is imposed, to redeem his life.	30 Se gli è imposto un risarcimento, in riscatto della sua vita dovrà dare tutto quello che gli è imposto.
31 If the ox gores a boy or a girl, it will be treated in accordance with this same rule.	31 Se il bue cozza con le corna un figlio o una figlia, si procederà secondo questa stessa legge.
32 If the ox gores a slave, male or female, its owner will pay the price -- thirty shekels -- to their master,and the ox will be stoned.	32 Se il bue cozza con le corna uno schiavo o una schiava, si darà al padrone trenta sicli in denaro e il bue sarà lapidato.
33 'If anyone leaves a pit uncovered, or digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox, or donkey fal s into it,	33 Se uno apre una cisterna o scava un pozzo e non lo copre, e vi cade un bue o un asino,
34 then the owner of the pit will make good the loss by compensating its owner, and the dead animal willbe his.	34 il padrone del pozzo pagherà l'indennizzo al suo padrone, e l'animale morto sarà suo.
35 If anyone's ox injures anyone else's ox causing its death, the owners wil sel and share the moneyfor it; they will also share the dead animal.	35 Se il bue di uno ferisce il bue del suo prossimo a morte, venderanno il bue vivo e faranno a metà del suo denaro; anche del morto faranno a metà.
36 But if it is common knowledge that the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and its owner hasnot kept it under control, the owner wil repay ox for ox, and wil keep the dead animal.	36 Ma se è noto che quel bue cozzava già da tempo con le corna e il suo padrone non l'ha sorvegliato, dovrà pagare bue per bue e il bue morto sarà suo.
37 'If anyone steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sel s it, he wil pay back five beasts from theherd for the ox, and four animals from the flock for the sheep.'	37 Se uno ruba un bue o un agnello, lo ammazza o lo vende, pagherà con cinque bovini per un bue, e con quattro ovini per un agnello.
