1 'These are the laws you must give them:	1 Queste sono le leggi giudiciali, che tu ad essi proporrai.
2 'When you buy a Hebrew slave, his service will last for six years. In the seventh year he wil leave afree man without paying compensation.	2 Se comprerai uno schiavo ebreo, egli servirà a te per sei anni: il settimo se n'andrà libero gratuitamente.
3 If he came single, he wil depart single; if he came married, his wife wil depart with him.	3 Quale era la veste, con cui è venuto, con tal veste se n'andrà: se avea moglie, la moglie ancora se n'andrà insieme.
4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children wilbelong to her master, and he wil depart alone.	4 Che se il padrone gli avrà dato moglie, e questa avrà partorito figliuoli, e figliuole, la donna, e i figliuoli di lei saranno del padrone; ma quegli se n'andrà colla sua veste.
5 But if the slave says, "I love my master and my wife and children; I do not wish to be freed,"	5 Che se lo schiavo dirà: Io voglio bene al mio padrone, e alla moglie, e a' figliuoli, io non voglio partire colla libertà;
6 then his master wil bring him before God and then, leading him to the door or the doorpost, his masterwil pierce his ear with an awl, and the slave wil be permanently his.	6 Il padrone lo presenterà agli dii, e accostatolo alla porta, forerà a lui l'orecchio con una lesina: e questi rimarrà suo schiavo per sempre.
7 If a man sel s his daughter as a slave, she wil not leave as male slaves do.	7 Se uno vende la propria figliuola al servigio altrui, ella non tornerà in libertà nel modo che vi tornan le schiave.
8 If she does not please her master who intended her for himself, he must let her be bought back: hehas not the right to sell her to foreigners, for this would be a breach of faith with her.	8 Se diviene sgradita agli occhi del suo padrone, a cui fu data, ei la licenzierà: e non avrà diritto di venderla ad altra gente, s'ei la disprezzò.
9 If he intends her for his son, he must treat her as custom requires daughters to be treated.	9 Che se l'avrà data in isposa al suo figliuolo, la tratterà come un'altra fanciulla.
10 If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing or conjugal rights of the first one.	10 Ma se egli dà a lui un'altra sposa, provvederà di partito la fanciulla, e di vestimenta, e non negherà il prezzo della verginità.
11 Should he deprive her of these three things she wil leave a free woman, without payingcompensation.	11 Che se egli non farà queste tre cose, ella se n'anderà gratis, senza pagamento di prezzo.
12 'Anyone who by violence causes a death must be put to death.	12 Chi percuoterà un uomo, uccidendolo volontariamente, morrà senza remissione.
13 If, however, he has not planned to do it but it comes from God by his hand, he can take refuge in aplace which I shal appoint for you.	13 Che se non l'ha fatto appostatamete, ma Dio ha fatto, che quegli cadesse nelle sue mani, io ti determinerò il luogo, in cui debba fuggire.
14 But should any person dare to kill another with deliberate planning, you wil take that person evenfrom my altar to be put to death.	14 Se uno appostatamente, e insidiosamente avrà ucciso il suo prossimo, lo strapperai dal mio altare per farlo morire.
15 'Anyone who strikes father or mother wil be put to death.	15 Chi batterà il padre, o la madre, sarà messo a morte.
16 Anyone who abducts a person -- whether that person has since been sold or is stil held -- wil be putto death.	16 Chi avrà rubato un uomo, e l'avrà venduto, convinto del delitto sia messo a morte.
17 Anyone who curses father or mother will be put to death.	17 Chi maledirà il padre, o la madre sua, sia messo a morte.
18 'If people quarrel and one strikes the other a blow with stone or fist so that the injured party, thoughnot dead, is confined to bed,	18 Se due uomini vengono a rissa, e uno percuote il suo prossimo con un sasso, o col pugno, e questi non muoia, ma sia stato giacente in letto:
19 but later recovers and can go about, even with a stick, the one who struck the blow wil have noliability, other than to compensate the injured party for the enforced inactivity and to take care of the injured partyuntil the cure is complete.	19 Se (poi) si leverà, e anderà fuori appoggiato al suo bastone, il percussore sarà esente dalla pena; con questo però, che rifaccia i danni, e quello che fu speso pe' medici.
20 'If someone beats his slave, male or female, and the slave dies at his hands, he must pay thepenalty.	20 Chi batterà Io schiavo o la schiava col bastone talmente, che muoiano tra le sue mani, sarà reo di delitto.
21 But should the slave survive for one or two days, he will pay no penalty because the slave is his byright of purchase.	21 Ma se sopravvivono un giorno, o due, egli non sarà soggetto a pena, perché è roba sua.
22 'If people, when brawling, hurt a pregnant woman and she suffers a miscarriage but no further harmis done, the person responsible wil pay compensation as fixed by the woman's master, paying as much as thejudges decide.	22 Se alcuni vengono a rissa, e uno percuote una donna gravida, che abortisce, ma resta in vita, quegli rifarà il danno, secondo la richiesta del marito, e il giudizio degli arbitri.
23 If further harm is done, however, you wil award life for life,	23 Ma se quella ancora viene a morire, renderà vita per vita,
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,	24 Occhio per occhio, dente per dente, mano per mano, piede per piede,
25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stroke for stroke.	25 Scottatura per iscottatura, ferita per ferita, contusione per contusione.
26 'If anyone strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys the use of it, he wil give theslave his freedom to compensate for the eye.	26 Se uno ferirà il suo schiavo, o la sua schiava in un occhio, e li farà loschi, darà loro la libertà per ragione dell'occhio, che ha loro cavato.
27 If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he wil give the slave his freedom tocompensate for the tooth.	27 E se ancor romperà un dente allo schiavo, o alla schiava, darà loro parimente la libertà.
28 'If an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox wil be stoned and its meat wil not be eaten, but theowner of the ox wil not be liable.	28 Se un bue ferisce col corno un uomo, o una donna, e ne restino uccisi, sarà lapidato, e non si mangeranno le sue carni: il padrone però del bue sarà senza pena.
29 But if the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and if its owner has been warned but has not keptit under control, then should this ox kil a man or woman, it wil be stoned and its owner put to death.	29 Ma se il bue cozzava già da qualche tempo, e ne fu ammonito il padrone, e questi nol tenne rinchiuso, se avvien, che ammazzi un uomo, o una donna, sarà lapidato il bue, e messo a morte il padrone.
30 If a ransom is imposed on the owner, he wil pay whatever is imposed, to redeem his life.	30 Ove poi siagli imposta pena pecuniaria, darà per riscattar la sua vita quanto gli sarà domandato.
31 If the ox gores a boy or a girl, it will be treated in accordance with this same rule.	31 Che se il bue avrà percosso un figliuolo, o una figlia, il padrone soggiacerà tuttora alla stessa sentenza.
32 If the ox gores a slave, male or female, its owner will pay the price -- thirty shekels -- to their master,and the ox will be stoned.	32 Se avrà percosso uno schiavo, o una schiava, saran dati trenta sicli d'argento al loro padrone; e il bue sarà lapidato.
33 'If anyone leaves a pit uncovered, or digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox, or donkey fal s into it,	33 Se uno apre la cisterna, o la scava, e non la chiude, e vi cada dentro un bue, o un asino,
34 then the owner of the pit will make good the loss by compensating its owner, and the dead animal willbe his.	34 Il padrone della cisterna pagherà il prezzo degli animali: ma quello che sarà morto, sarà suo.
35 If anyone's ox injures anyone else's ox causing its death, the owners wil sel and share the moneyfor it; they will also share the dead animal.	35 Se un bue percuote il bue d'un altro, e questo venga a morire, si venderà il bue vivo, e si dividerà il prezzo: e il bue morto sarà tra essi diviso.
36 But if it is common knowledge that the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and its owner hasnot kept it under control, the owner wil repay ox for ox, and wil keep the dead animal.	36 Ma se quegli sapeva, che il bue cozzava già da qualche tempo, e il padrone non lo ha tenuto rinchiuso, renderà bue per bue, e avrà intero il bue morto.
37 'If anyone steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sel s it, he wil pay back five beasts from theherd for the ox, and four animals from the flock for the sheep.'
