Exodus 20

1 Then God spoke al these words. He said,	1 וידבר אלהים את כל הדברים האלה לאמר
2 'I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves.	2 אנכי יהוה אלהיך אשר הוצאתיך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים
3 'You shal have no other gods to rival me.	3 לא יהיה לך אלהים אחרים על פני
4 'You shal not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth.	4 לא תעשה לך פסל וכל תמונה אשר בשמים ממעל ואשר בארץ מתחת ואשר במים מתחת לארץ
5 'You shal not bow down to them or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish a parent's fault in the children, the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren among those who hate me;	5 לא תשתחוה להם ולא תעבדם כי אנכי יהוה אלהיך אל קנא פקד עון אבת על בנים על שלשים ועל רבעים לשנאי
6 but I act with faithful love towards thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.	6 ועשה חסד לאלפים לאהבי ולשמרי מצותי
7 'You shal not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho misuses his name.	7 לא תשא את שם יהוה אלהיך לשוא כי לא ינקה יהוה את אשר ישא את שמו לשוא
8 'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.	8 זכור את יום השבת לקדשו
9 For six days you shal labour and do al your work,	9 ששת ימים תעבד ועשית כל מלאכתך
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shal do no work that day, neither younor your son nor your daughter nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals nor the alien living with you.	10 ויום השביעי שבת ליהוה אלהיך לא תעשה כל מלאכה אתה ובנך ובתך עבדך ואמתך ובהמתך וגרך אשר בשעריך
11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and al that these contain, but on theseventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.	11 כי ששת ימים עשה יהוה את השמים ואת הארץ את הים ואת כל אשר בם וינח ביום השביעי על כן ברך יהוה את יום השבת ויקדשהו
12 'Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that Yahweh your God isgiving you.	12 כבד את אביך ואת אמך למען יארכון ימיך על האדמה אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך
13 'You shal not kil .	13 לא תרצח
14 'You shal not commit adultery.	14 לא תנאף
15 'You shal not steal.	15 לא תגנב
16 'You shal not give false evidence against your neighbour.	16 לא תענה ברעך עד שקר
17 'You shal not set your heart on your neighbour's house. You shal not set your heart on yourneighbour's spouse, or servant, man or woman, or ox, or donkey, or any of your neighbour's possessions.'	17 לא תחמד בית רעך לא תחמד אשת רעך ועבדו ואמתו ושורו וחמרו וכל אשר לרעך
18 Seeing the thunder pealing, the lightning flashing, the trumpet blasting and the mountain smoking,the people were al terrified and kept their distance.	18 וכל העם ראים את הקולת ואת הלפידם ואת קול השפר ואת ההר עשן וירא העם וינעו ויעמדו מרחק
19 'Speak to us yourself,' they said to Moses, 'and we wil obey; but do not let God speak to us, or weshall die.'	19 ויאמרו אל משה דבר אתה עמנו ונשמעה ואל ידבר עמנו אלהים פן נמות
20 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come to test you, so that your fear of him, beingalways in your mind, may keep you from sinning.'	20 ויאמר משה אל העם אל תיראו כי לבעבור נסות אתכם בא האלהים ובעבור תהיה יראתו על פניכם לבלתי תחטאו
21 So the people kept their distance while Moses approached the dark cloud where God was.	21 ויעמד העם מרחק ומשה נגש אל הערפל אשר שם האלהים
22 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Tel the Israelites this, "You have seen for yourselves how I have spoken toyou from heaven.	22 ויאמר יהוה אל משה כה תאמר אל בני ישראל אתם ראיתם כי מן השמים דברתי עמכם
23 You must not make gods of silver to rival me, nor must you make yourselves gods of gold.	23 לא תעשון אתי אלהי כסף ואלהי זהב לא תעשו לכם
24 "You must make me an altar of earth on which to sacrifice your burnt offerings and communionsacrifices, your sheep and cattle. Wherever I choose to have my name remembered, I shal come to you andbless you.	24 מזבח אדמה תעשה לי וזבחת עליו את עלתיך ואת שלמיך את צאנך ואת בקרך בכל המקום אשר אזכיר את שמי אבוא אליך וברכתיך
25 If you make me an altar of stone, do not build it of dressed stones; for if you use a chisel on it, youwil profane it.	25 ואם מזבח אבנים תעשה לי לא תבנה אתהן גזית כי חרבך הנפת עליה ותחללה
26 You must not go up to my altar by steps, in case you expose your nakedness on them." '	26 ולא תעלה במעלת על מזבחי אשר לא תגלה ערותך עליו
