Exodus 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Then God spoke al these words. He said,	1 Entonces pronunció Dios todas estas palabras diciendo:
2 'I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves.	2 «Yo, Yahveh, soy tu Dios, que te he sacado del país de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre.
3 'You shal have no other gods to rival me.	3 No habrá para ti otros dioses delante de mí.
4 'You shal not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth.	4 No te harás escultura ni imagen alguna ni de lo que hay arriba en los cielos, ni de lo que hay abajo en la tierra, ni de lo que hay en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
5 'You shal not bow down to them or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish a parent's fault in the children, the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren among those who hate me;	5 No te postrarás ante ellas ni les darás culto, porque yo Yahveh, tu Dios, soy un Dios celoso, que castigo la iniquidad de los padres en los hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me odian,
6 but I act with faithful love towards thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.	6 y tengo misericordia por millares con los que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
7 'You shal not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho misuses his name.	7 No tomarás en falso el nombre de Yahveh, tu Dios; porque Yahveh no dejará sin castigo a quien toma su nombre en falso.
8 'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.	8 Recuerda el día del sábado para santificarlo.
9 For six days you shal labour and do al your work,	9 Seis días trabajarás y harás todos tus trabajos,
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shal do no work that day, neither younor your son nor your daughter nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals nor the alien living with you.	10 pero el día séptimo es día de descanso para Yahveh, tu Dios. No harás ningún trabajo, ni tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu sierva, ni tu ganado, ni el forastero que habita en tu ciudad.
11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and al that these contain, but on theseventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.	11 Pues en seis días hizo Yahveh el cielo y la tierra, el mar y todo cuanto contienen, y el séptimo descansó; por eso bendijo Yahveh el día del sábado y lo hizo sagrado.
12 'Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that Yahweh your God isgiving you.	12 Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para que se prolonguen tus días sobre la tierra que Yahveh, tu Dios, te va a dar.
13 'You shal not kil .	13 No matarás.
14 'You shal not commit adultery.	14 No cometerás adulterio.
15 'You shal not steal.	15 No robarás.
16 'You shal not give false evidence against your neighbour.	16 No darás testimonio falso contra tu prójimo.
17 'You shal not set your heart on your neighbour's house. You shal not set your heart on yourneighbour's spouse, or servant, man or woman, or ox, or donkey, or any of your neighbour's possessions.'	17 No codiciarás la casa de tu prójimo, ni codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo, ni su siervo, ni su sierva, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni nada que sea de tu prójimo.»
18 Seeing the thunder pealing, the lightning flashing, the trumpet blasting and the mountain smoking,the people were al terrified and kept their distance.	18 Todo el pueblo percibía los truenos y relámpagos, el sonido de la trompeta y el monte humeante, y temblando de miedo se mantenía a distancia.
19 'Speak to us yourself,' they said to Moses, 'and we wil obey; but do not let God speak to us, or weshall die.'	19 Dijeron a Moisés: «Habla tú con nosotros, que podremos entenderte, pero que no hable Dios con nosotros, no sea que muramos.»
20 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come to test you, so that your fear of him, beingalways in your mind, may keep you from sinning.'	20 Respondió Moisés al pueblo: «No temáis, pues Dios ha venido para poneros a prueba, para que su temor esté ante vuestros ojos, y no pequéis».
21 So the people kept their distance while Moses approached the dark cloud where God was.	21 Y el pueblo se mantuvo a distancia, mientras Moisés se acercaba a la densa nube donde estaba Dios.
22 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Tel the Israelites this, "You have seen for yourselves how I have spoken toyou from heaven.	22 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: Así dirás a los israelitas: Vosotros mismos habéis visto que os he hablado desde el cielo.
23 You must not make gods of silver to rival me, nor must you make yourselves gods of gold.	23 No haréis junto a mí dioses de plata, ni os haréis dioses de oro.
24 "You must make me an altar of earth on which to sacrifice your burnt offerings and communionsacrifices, your sheep and cattle. Wherever I choose to have my name remembered, I shal come to you andbless you.	24 Hazme un altar de tierra para ofrecer sobre él tus holocaustos y tus sacrificios de comunión, tus ovejas y tus bueyes. En todo lugar donde haga yo memorable mi nombre, vendré a ti y te bendeciré.
25 If you make me an altar of stone, do not build it of dressed stones; for if you use a chisel on it, youwil profane it.	25 Y si me haces un altar de piedra, no lo edificarás de piedras labradas; porque al alzar tu cincel sobre ella queda profanada.
26 You must not go up to my altar by steps, in case you expose your nakedness on them." '	26 Tampoco subirás por gradas a mi altar, para que no se descubra tu desnudez sobre él.
