1 It was then that Moses and the Israelites sang this song in Yahweh's honour: I shall sing to Yahweh,for he has covered himself in glory, horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.	1 Allora Mosè cantò coi figli d'Israele questo cantico al Signore, e dissero: « Cantiamo al Signore, perchè s'è maestosamente glorificato: ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere,
2 Yah is my strength and my song, to him I owe my deliverance. He is my God and I shal praise him,my father's God and I shal extol him.	2 il Signore è la mia forza e il mio cantico. Egli è stato la mia salvezza. Egli è il mio Dio: lo glorificherò; è il Dio di mio padre: lo esalterò,
3 Yahweh is a warrior; Yahweh is his name.	3 il Signore ha fatto da guerriero; il suo nome è l'onnipotente.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and army he has hurled into the sea the pick of his officers have been drowned inthe Sea of Reeds.	4 Egli ha precipitati nel mare i cocchi e l'esercito di Faraone: i migliori suoi principi son restati sommersi nel Mar Rosso:
5 The ocean has closed over them; they have sunk to the bottom like a stone.	5 gli abissi li hanno ricoperti: sono andati a fondo come una pietra.
6 Your right hand, Yahweh, wins glory by its strength, your right hand, Yahweh, shatters your foes,	6 La tua destra, o Signore, si è segnalata nella forza; la tua destra, o Signore, ha fiaccato il nemico;
7 and by your great majesty you fell your assailants; you unleash your fury, it consumes them like chaff.	7 colla grandezza della tua maestà hai rovesciato i tuoi avversari, hai mandato l'ira tua che li ha divorati come paglia.
8 A blast from your nostrils and the waters piled high; the waves stood firm as a dyke; the bed of the seabecame firm ground.	8 Al soffio del tuo furore si sono accumulate le acque, l'onda fluente si è fermata, gli abissisi son rappresi in mezzo al mare.
9 The enemy said, 'I shal give chase and overtake, 'I shal share out the spoil and glut myself on them, 'Ishall draw my sword, my hand wil destroy them.'	9 Il nemico diceva: — Inseguirò, raggiungerò, dividerò le spoglie; sarà sazia la mia brama; sguainerò la mia spada, la mia mano li ucciderà.
10 You blew with your breath, the sea closed over them; they sank like lead in the terrible waters.	10 Ma al soffio del tuo spirito il mare li ha coperti; sono andati a fondo come piombo nelle acque sterminate.
11 Yahweh, who is like you, majestic in sanctity, who like you among the holy ones, fearsome of deed,worker of wonders?	11 Chi tra i forti è simile a te, o Signore? Chi è simile a te, mirabile nella santità, terribile e degno di lode, operatore di prodigi?
12 You stretched your right hand out, the earth swallowed them!	12 Tu hai stesa la tua mano e la terra li ha inghiottiti.
13 In your faithful love you led out the people you had redeemed, in your strength you have guided themto your holy dwel ing.	13 Nella tua misericordia sei stato guida al popolo che hai riscattato, e colla tua forza lo porti verso la tua santa dimora.
14 Hearing of this, the peoples tremble; pangs seize on the people of Philistia;	14 I popoli si sono levati, si sono adirati; l'angoscia ha oppresso gli abitanti della Palestina.
15 the chieftains of Edom are dismayed, Moab's princes -- panic has seized them, all the inhabitants ofCanaan have melted away.	15 Son già sbigottiti i principi d'Edom; il tremito ha invaso i forti di Moab; son gelati dallo spavento gli abitanti di Canaan.
16 On them fall terror and dread; through the power of your arm they are stil as stone while your peopleare passing, Yahweh, while the people you have purchased are passing.	16 La paura e lo spavento piombi su di loro per la potenza del tuo braccio! Diventino immobili come pietra finchè il tuo popolo, o Signore, non sia passato, finché non sia passato questo popolo che hai fatto tuo!
17 You wil bring them in and plant them on the mountain which is your heritage, the place which you,Yahweh, have made your dwel ing, the sanctuary, Yahweh, prepared by your own hands.	17 Tu li introdurrai e li stabilirai sul monte del tuo retaggio, nella tua sicurissima dimora che ti sei fatta, o Signore; nel tuo santuario che le tue mani, o Signore, hanno stabilito,
18 Yahweh will be king for ever and ever.	18 Il Signore regnerà in eterno ed oltre ancora.
19 For when Pharaoh's cavalry, with his chariots and horsemen, had gone into the sea, Yahweh broughtthe waters of the sea back over them, though the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea.	19 I cocchi di Faraone e i suoi cavalieri sono entrati nel mare, ma il Signore ha fatto ritornare sopra di loro le acque del mare, mentre i figli d'Israele han camminato sull'asciutto in mezzo al mare ».
20 The prophetess Miriam, Aaron's sister, took up a tambourine, and all the women fol owed her withtambourines, dancing,	20 E Maria, profetessa, la sorella d'Aronne, preso in mano un timpano con tutte le altre donne che andavan dietro a lei con timpani, danzando,
21 while Miriam took up from them the refrain: Sing to Yahweh, for he has covered himself in glory,horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.	21 cantava per la prima, rispondendo: « Cantiamo al Signore, perchè s'è maestosamente glorificato: ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere ».
22 Moses led Israel away from the Sea of Reeds, and they entered the desert of Shur. They thentravel ed through the desert for three days without finding water.	22 Poi Mosè fece partire gli Israeliti dal Mar Rosso, ed essi, avanzando pel deserto di Sur, camminarono nel deserto tre giorni, senza trovare acqua.
23 When they reached Marah, they could not drink the Marah water because it was bitter; this is why theplace was named Marah.	23 Ed anche giunti a Mara, non he poteron bere le acque, perchè erano amare; per la qual ragione fu posto a quel luogo il nome molto appropriato di Mara, cioè Amarezza.
24 The people complained to Moses saying, 'What are we to drink?'	24 Allora il popolo si mise a mormorare contro Mosè e a dire: « Che berremo noi? »
25 Moses appealed to Yahweh for help, and Yahweh showed him a piece of wood. When Moses threwit into the water, the water became sweet. There he laid down a statute and law for them and there he put themto the test. Then he said,	25 Ma egli gridò al Signore, il quale gli mostrò un legno: messo quel legno nelle acque, esse diventarono dolci. In quel luogo il Signore diede al popolo precetti e ordini, mettendolo alla prova,
26 'If you listen careful y to the voice of Yahweh your God and do what he regards as right, if you payattention to his commandments and keep al his laws, I shal never inflict on you any of the diseases that Iinflicted on the Egyptians, for I am Yahweh your Healer.'	26 e disse: « Se tu ascolterai la voce del Signore Dio tuo, e farai quello che è giusto dinanzi a lui, obbedendo ai suoi comandi ed osservando tutti i suoi precetti, io non ti manderò addosso nessuno dei mali con cui ho colpito l'Egitto; perchè io sono il Signore che ti guarisco ».
27 So they came to Elim where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees; and there theypitched camp beside the water.	27 I figli d'Israele vennero di poi in Elim, dove erano dodici fontane d'acqua e settanta palme, e si accamparono presso le acque.
