Exodus 13

1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
2 'Consecrate al the first-born to me, the first birth from every womb, among the Israelites. Whetherman or beast, it is mine.'	2 «Consacrami ogni essere che esce per primo dal seno materno tra gli Israeliti: ogni primogenito di uomini o di animali appartiene a me».
3 Moses said to the people, 'Remember this day, on which you came out of Egypt, from the place ofslave-labour, for by the strength of his hand Yahweh brought you out of it; no leavened bread may be eaten.	3 Mosè disse al popolo: «Ricòrdati di questo giorno, nel quale siete usciti dall’Egitto, dalla dimora di schiavitù, perché con la potenza del suo braccio il Signore vi ha fatto uscire di là: non si mangi nulla di lievitato.
4 On this day, in the month of Abib, you are leaving,	4 In questo giorno del mese di Abìb voi uscite.
5 and when Yahweh has brought you into the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, theHivites and the Jebusites, flowing with milk and honey, which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you,then you must observe this rite in the same month.	5 Quando il Signore ti avrà fatto entrare nella terra del Cananeo, dell’Ittita, dell’Amorreo, dell’Eveo e del Gebuseo, che ha giurato ai tuoi padri di dare a te, terra dove scorrono latte e miele, allora tu celebrerai questo rito in questo mese.
6 For seven days you wil eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there must be a feast inYahweh's honour.	6 Per sette giorni mangerai azzimi. Nel settimo giorno vi sarà una festa in onore del Signore.
7 During these seven days unleavened bread may be eaten; no leavened bread may be seen amongyou, no leaven among you throughout your territory.	7 Nei sette giorni si mangeranno azzimi e non compaia presso di te niente di lievitato; non ci sia presso di te lievito entro tutti i tuoi confini.
8 And on that day you wil explain to your son, "This is because of what Yahweh did for me when I cameout of Egypt."	8 In quel giorno tu spiegherai a tuo figlio: “È a causa di quanto ha fatto il Signore per me, quando sono uscito dall’Egitto”.
9 This will serve as a sign on your hand would serve, or a reminder on your forehead, and in that waythe law of Yahweh will be ever on your lips: for with a mighty hand Yahweh brought you out of Egypt.	9 Sarà per te segno sulla tua mano e memoriale fra i tuoi occhi, affinché la legge del Signore sia sulla tua bocca. Infatti il Signore ti ha fatto uscire dall’Egitto con mano potente.
10 You shal observe this law at its appointed time, year by year.	10 Osserverai questo rito nella sua ricorrenza di anno in anno.
11 'When Yahweh has brought you into the Canaanites' country, as he swore to you and your ancestorsthat he would, and given it to you,	11 Quando il Signore ti avrà fatto entrare nella terra del Cananeo, come ha giurato a te e ai tuoi padri, e te l’avrà data in possesso,
12 to Yahweh you must make over whatever first issues from the womb, and every first-born cast byanimals belonging to you: these males belong to Yahweh.	12 tu riserverai per il Signore ogni primogenito del seno materno; ogni primo parto del tuo bestiame, se di sesso maschile, lo consacrerai al Signore.
13 But every first-born donkey you wil redeem with a lamb or kid; if you do not redeem it, you mustbreak its neck. Al the human first-born, however, among your sons, you wil redeem.	13 Riscatterai ogni primo parto dell’asino mediante un capo di bestiame minuto e, se non lo vorrai riscattare, gli spaccherai la nuca. Riscatterai ogni primogenito dell’uomo tra i tuoi discendenti.
14 And when your son asks you in days to come, "What does this mean?" you wil tel him, "By thestrength of his hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	14 Quando tuo figlio un domani ti chiederà: “Che significa ciò?”, tu gli risponderai: “Con la potenza del suo braccio il Signore ci ha fatto uscire dall’Egitto, dalla condizione servile.
15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, Yahweh killed all the first-born in Egypt, of man andbeast alike. This is why I sacrifice every male first issuing from the womb to Yahweh and redeem every first-bornof my sons."	15 Poiché il faraone si ostinava a non lasciarci partire, il Signore ha ucciso ogni primogenito nella terra d’Egitto: i primogeniti degli uomini e i primogeniti del bestiame. Per questo io sacrifico al Signore ogni primo parto di sesso maschile e riscatto ogni primogenito dei miei discendenti”.
16 This wil serve as a sign on your hand would serve, or a headband on your forehead, for by thestrength of his hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt.'	16 Questo sarà un segno sulla tua mano, sarà un pendaglio fra i tuoi occhi, poiché con la potenza del suo braccio il Signore ci ha fatto uscire dall’Egitto».
17 When Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not let them take the road to the Philistines' territory,although that was the shortest, 'in case', God thought, 'the prospect of fighting makes the people change theirminds and turn back to Egypt.'	17 Quando il faraone lasciò partire il popolo, Dio non lo condusse per la strada del territorio dei Filistei, benché fosse più corta, perché Dio pensava: «Che il popolo non si penta alla vista della guerra e voglia tornare in Egitto!».
18 Instead, God led the people a roundabout way through the desert of the Sea of Reeds. The Israelitesleft Egypt ful y armed.	18 Dio fece deviare il popolo per la strada del deserto verso il Mar Rosso. Gli Israeliti, armati, uscirono dalla terra d’Egitto.
19 Moses took with him the bones of Joseph, since Joseph had put the Israelites on solemn oath withthe words, 'It is sure that God will visit you,' he had said, 'and when that day comes you must take my bonesaway from here with you.'	19 Mosè prese con sé le ossa di Giuseppe, perché questi aveva fatto prestare un solenne giuramento agli Israeliti, dicendo: «Dio, certo, verrà a visitarvi; voi allora vi porterete via le mie ossa».
20 They set out from Succoth and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the desert.	20 Partirono da Succot e si accamparono a Etam, sul limite del deserto.
21 Yahweh preceded them, by day in a pil ar of cloud to show them the way, and by night in a pil ar offire to give them light, so that they could march by day and by night.	21 Il Signore marciava alla loro testa di giorno con una colonna di nube, per guidarli sulla via da percorrere, e di notte con una colonna di fuoco, per far loro luce, così che potessero viaggiare giorno e notte.
22 The pil ar of cloud never left its place ahead of the people during the day, nor the pil ar of fire duringthe night.	22 Di giorno la colonna di nube non si ritirava mai dalla vista del popolo, né la colonna di fuoco durante la notte.
