Exodus 10

1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh, for I have made him and his officials stubborn, to displaythese signs of mine among them;	1 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Va da Faraone, perchè io ho indurato il suo cuore e quello dei suoi servi, per fare su di lui questi miei prodigi
2 so that you can tel your sons and your grandsons how I made fools of the Egyptians and what signs Iperformed among them, so that you would know that I am Yahweh.'	2 ed affinchè tu narri al tuo figlio e ai tuoi nipoti quante volte abbia percosso gli Egiziani, ed abbia fatto in mezzo a loro i miei prodigi, onde voi riconosciate che io sono il Signore ».
3 Moses and Aaron then went to Pharaoh and said to him, 'Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this,"How much longer wil you refuse to submit to me? Let my people go and worship me.	3 Mosè ed Aronne andarono dunque da Faraone, e gli dissero: « Queste cose dice il Signore Dio degli Ebrei: Fino a quando ricuserai di ubbidirmi? Lascia andare il mio popolo, affinchè mi offra sacrifizi.
4 Or, if you refuse to let my people go, tomorrow I shall send locusts into your country.	4 Se poi resisti e non vuoi lasciarlo andare, ecco, domani farò venire le locuste nel tuo paese.
5 They wil cover the surface of the soil so that the soil cannot be seen. They wil devour the remainderof what has escaped, of what you have been left after the hail; they wil devour al your trees growing in thefields;	5 Esse copriranno la faccia della terra da non poter vedere il suolo, divoreranno ciò che è scampato dalla grandine e roderanno tutte le piante che germogliano nei campi;
6 they will fil your houses, al your officials' houses and al the Egyptians' houses -- something yourancestors and your ancestors' ancestors have never seen from the day they first appeared on earth until now." 'Then he turned on his heel and left Pharaoh's presence.	6 empiranno le tue case, quelle dei tuoi servi e di tutti gli Egiziani, come nè i tuoi padri nè i tuoi avi videro mai dal giorno in cui nacquero sulla terra, fino al presente ». Poi si voltò ed uscì dalla presenza di Faraone.
7 At which, Pharaoh's officials said to him, 'How much longer are we to be tricked by this fellow? Let thepeople go and worship Yahweh their God. Do you not final y realise that Egypt is on the brink of ruin?'	7 E dissero a Faraone i suoi servi: « Fino a quando avremo a soffrire questo scandalo? Lascia che questa gente vada a sacrificare al Signore suo Dio: non vedi che l'Egitto è rovinato? »
8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh who said to them, 'Go and worship Yahweh yourGod. But who are to go?'	8 Richiamarono allora Mosè ed Aronne davanti a Faraone, il quale disse loro: « Andate ad offrire sacrifizi al Signore Dio vostro. Ma chi sono quelli che andranno? »
9 Moses replied, 'We shal take our young men and our old men, we shall take our sons and daughters,our flocks and our herds, since we are going to hold a feast in Yahweh's honour.'	9 Mosè rispose: « Noi andremo coi nostri bambini, coi nostri vecchi, coi figli e colle figlie, colle pecore e cogli armenti, perchè è la festa solenne del Signore, Dio nostro ».
10 Pharaoh said, 'So I must let you go with your wives and children! May Yahweh preserve you! Plainly,you are up to no good!	10 E Faraone rispose: « Così il Signore sia con voi, come io vi lascerò andare coi vostri figli. È possibile un dubbio sulle vostre cattive intenzioni?
11 Oh no! You men may go and worship Yahweh, since that was your original request.' With that, theywere driven from Pharaoh's presence.	11 Non sarà come dite: vadano con voi gli uomini soltanto a sacrificare al Signore: questo è infatti quello che avete chiesto voi stessi ». E subito furon cacciati dal cospetto di Faraone.
12 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over Egypt for the locusts. Let them invade Egyptand devour whatever is growing in the country, whatever the hail has left!'	12 Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: « Stendi la tua mano sopra la terra d'Egitto per far venire sopra la terra le locuste a divorare tutta la vegetazione avanzata alla grandine ».
13 Moses stretched his staff over Egypt, and over the country Yahweh sent an east wind which blew althat day and night. By morning, the east wind had brought the locusts.	13 E Mosè stese la verga sopra la terra d'Egitto. Allora il Signore mandò un vento cocente che durò tutto quel giorno e la notte: e la mattina dopo il vento cocente portò le locuste,
14 The locusts invaded the whole of Egypt and settled al over Egypt, in great swarms; never had therebeen so many locusts before, nor would there be again.	14 che, avanzandosi su tutta la terra d'Egitto, ne infestarono tutte le contrade in numero così sterminato che non ce n'eran mai state tante, nè mai ci saranno.
15 They covered the surface of the ground till the land was devastated. They devoured whatever wasgrowing in the fields and al the fruit on the trees that the hail had left. No green was left on tree or plant in thefields anywhere in Egypt.	15 E coprirono tutta la superficie della terra, devastando ogni cosa: divorarono l'erba dei campi e tutti i frutti delle piante la sciati dalla grandine, in modo che nulla restò di verde nelle piante e nell'orbe dei campi in tutto l'Egitto.
16 Pharaoh sent urgently for Moses and Aaron and said, 'I have sinned against Yahweh your God andagainst you.	16 Allora Faraone, chiamati in fretta Mosè ed Aronne, disse loro: « Ho peccato contro il Signore Dio vostro e contro di voi.
17 Now forgive my sin, I implore you, just this once, and entreat Yahweh your God to turn this deadlything away from me.'	17 Ma ora perdonatemi anche per questa volta il mio peccato, e pregate il Signore Dio vostro che tolga da me questa morte».
18 When Moses left Pharaoh's presence he prayed to Yahweh,	18 Uscito Mosè dal cospetto di Faraone, pregò il Signore,
19 and Yahweh changed the wind into a west wind, very strong, which carried the locusts away andswept them into the Sea of Reeds. There was not one locust left in the whole of Egypt.	19 che fece soffiare da ponente un vento gagliardissimo, il quale portò via le locuste e le gettò nel Mar Rosso: non ne restò nemmeno una in tutto l'Egitto.
20 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn, and he did not let the Israelites go.	20 Ma il Signore indurò il cuore di Faraone, il quale non lasciò partire i figli d'Israele.
21 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven, and let darkness, darkness sothick that it can be felt, cover Egypt.'	21 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Stendi la tua mano verso il cielo e cadano sopra la terra d'Egitto tenebre così dense da potersi palpare ».
22 So Moses stretched out his hand towards heaven, and for three days there was thick darkness overthe whole of Egypt.	22 E Mosè stese la mano verso il cielo e orribili tenebre oppressero tutta la terra d'Egitto per tre giorni.
23 No one could see anyone else or move about for three days, but al the Israelites did have lightwhere they were living.	23 Nessuno poteva vedere il suo vicino, nè poteva muoversi da dove stava. Però dove abitavano i figli d'Israele vi era la luce.
24 Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, 'Go and worship Yahweh, but your flocks and herds are to stayhere. Your wives and children can go with you too.'	24 Allora Faraone chiamò Mosè ed Aronne, e disse loro: « Andate a sacrificare al Signore: rimangano soltanto le vostre pecore e i vostri armenti: i vostri bambini vengan pure con voi ».
25 Moses said, 'But now you must give us sacrifices and burnt offerings to offer to Yahweh our God.	25 E Mosè disse: « Tu ci devi dare anche le ostie e gli olocausti da offrire al Signore Dio nostro.
26 And our livestock will go with us too; not a hoof wil be left behind; for we may need animals fromthese to worship Yahweh our God; for until we get there we ourselves cannot tell how we are to worshipYahweh.'	26 Anche tutti i greggi devon venire con noi, nemmeno un'unghia può restare di essi: son necessari per il culto del Signore e Dio nostro, molto più che ignoriamo quel che si debba immolarefino a tanto che non siam giunti al luogo stabilito ».
27 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn, and he refused to let them go.	27 Ma il Signore indurò il cuore di Faraone, il quale non volle lasciarli partire.
28 Pharaoh said to Moses, 'Out of my sight! Be sure you never see my face again, for the next time yousee my face you die!'	28 Anzi Faraone disse a Mosè: «Vattene via da me, e guardati bene dal comparir mi più davanti, perchè la prima voltache ci verrai, morrai ».
29 Moses then said, 'You yourself have said it. I shal never see your face again.'	29 Mosè rispose:« Sarà come tu hai detto: io non vedròpiù la tua faccia ».
