1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh, for I have made him and his officials stubborn, to displaythese signs of mine among them;	1 - Disse il Signore a Mosè: «Torna al Faraone. Io ho indurato il cuore di lui e de' suoi ministri; perciò farò su di lui questi miei prodigi,
2 so that you can tel your sons and your grandsons how I made fools of the Egyptians and what signs Iperformed among them, so that you would know that I am Yahweh.'	2 acciò tu narri ai tuoi figli e nipoti quante volte io ho flagellato gli Egiziani, e fatti su loro i miei prodigi, e sappiate ch'io sono il Signore».
3 Moses and Aaron then went to Pharaoh and said to him, 'Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this,"How much longer wil you refuse to submit to me? Let my people go and worship me.	3 Entrarono dunque Mosè ed Aronne al Faraone, e gli dissero: «Questo ti dice il Signore Dio degli ebrei: - Insino a quando ricuserai di sottoporti a me? Lascia andare il mio popolo perché mi offra un sacrificio.
4 Or, if you refuse to let my people go, tomorrow I shall send locusts into your country.	4 Che se tu resisti, e non glielo vuoi permettere, ecco io chiamerò domani nei tuoi territorii le locuste,
5 They wil cover the surface of the soil so that the soil cannot be seen. They wil devour the remainderof what has escaped, of what you have been left after the hail; they wil devour al your trees growing in thefields;	5 che copriranno il suolo in modo da non poterlo più vedere, e divoreranno tutto quello che restò dalla grandine. Corroderanno infatti tutte le piante che germogliano alla campagna.
6 they will fil your houses, al your officials' houses and al the Egyptians' houses -- something yourancestors and your ancestors' ancestors have never seen from the day they first appeared on earth until now." 'Then he turned on his heel and left Pharaoh's presence.	6 Empiranno le case tue, dei tuoi ministri, e di tutti gli Egiziani [e saranno] quante non ne hanno mai viste i padri e gli avi tuoi, da che cominciarono ad abitare in questi luoghi sino ad oggi -». Poi si ritirò, ed uscì dal cospetto del Faraone.
7 At which, Pharaoh's officials said to him, 'How much longer are we to be tricked by this fellow? Let thepeople go and worship Yahweh their God. Do you not final y realise that Egypt is on the brink of ruin?'	7 Dissero al Faraone i suoi ministri: «Per quanto tempo ancora porteremo questo laccio? Lasciali andare, che sacrifichino al Signore Dio loro. Non vedi che l'Egitto va in rovina?».
8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh who said to them, 'Go and worship Yahweh yourGod. But who are to go?'	8 Chiamarono dunque di nuovo Mosè ed Aronne alla presenza del Faraone, che disse loro: «Andate, e sacrificate al Signore Dio vostro. Chi son quelli che debbono andare?».
9 Moses replied, 'We shal take our young men and our old men, we shall take our sons and daughters,our flocks and our herds, since we are going to hold a feast in Yahweh's honour.'	9 Disse Mosè: «Partiremo coi bambini ed i vecchi coi figli e le figlie, coi greggi ed i bestiami; perchè è festa solenne del nostro Signore Dio».
10 Pharaoh said, 'So I must let you go with your wives and children! May Yahweh preserve you! Plainly,you are up to no good!	10 Il Faraone rispose: «Così sia il Signore con voi, com'io lascerò andare voi ed i vostri piccoli. Chi può dubitare che non abbiate pessime intenzioni?
11 Oh no! You men may go and worship Yahweh, since that was your original request.' With that, theywere driven from Pharaoh's presence.	11 Non sarà così; vadano di voi i soli uomini, e sacrificate al Signore; questo infatti avete chiesto voi stessi». E subito furono scacciati dalla presenza del Faraone.
12 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over Egypt for the locusts. Let them invade Egyptand devour whatever is growing in the country, whatever the hail has left!'	12 Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la tua mano sull'Egitto, verso le locuste che vengano, e divorino tutta la vegetazione avanzata alla grandine».
13 Moses stretched his staff over Egypt, and over the country Yahweh sent an east wind which blew althat day and night. By morning, the east wind had brought the locusts.	13 Mosè stese la verga sull'Egitto, ed il Signore fece venire un vento abbruciante per tutto quel giorno e la notte. Al mattino, quel vento abbruciante sollevò le locuste,
14 The locusts invaded the whole of Egypt and settled al over Egypt, in great swarms; never had therebeen so many locusts before, nor would there be again.	14 che montarono su tutto l'Egitto, e invasero tutto il territorio degli Egiziani, in numero sterminato, come non erano mai state prima d'allora, nè mai saranno nell'avvenire.
15 They covered the surface of the ground till the land was devastated. They devoured whatever wasgrowing in the fields and al the fruit on the trees that the hail had left. No green was left on tree or plant in thefields anywhere in Egypt.	15 Ricoprirono tutto il suolo, e devastarono ogni cosa. Fu divorata l'erba della terra, ed ogni frutto sugli alberi, di ciò che la grandine aveva risparmiato; niente rimase di verdeggiante, né degli alberi né delle erbe della terra, in tutto l'Egitto.
16 Pharaoh sent urgently for Moses and Aaron and said, 'I have sinned against Yahweh your God andagainst you.	16 Perciò il Faraone fece chiamare in fretta Mosè ed Aronne, e disse loro: «Ho peccato contro il Signore Dio vostro, e contro voi.
17 Now forgive my sin, I implore you, just this once, and entreat Yahweh your God to turn this deadlything away from me.'	17 Ma perdonatemi anche questa volta il mio peccato, e pregate il Signore Dio vostro, che allontani da me questo mortale flagello».
18 When Moses left Pharaoh's presence he prayed to Yahweh,	18 Uscito Mosè dalla presenza del Faraone, pregò il Signore,
19 and Yahweh changed the wind into a west wind, very strong, which carried the locusts away andswept them into the Sea of Reeds. There was not one locust left in the whole of Egypt.	19 il quale fece soffiare un vento fortissimo da occidente, che portò via le locuste, e le cacciò nel Mar Rosso. Non ne rimase neppure una entro i confini dell'Egitto.
20 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn, and he did not let the Israelites go.	20 Ma il Signore indurò il cuore del Faraone, e questi non lasciò partire i figli d'Israele.
21 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven, and let darkness, darkness sothick that it can be felt, cover Egypt.'	21 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi verso il cielo la tua mano, e siano sull'Egitto tenebre così dense da potersi palpare».
22 So Moses stretched out his hand towards heaven, and for three days there was thick darkness overthe whole of Egypt.	22 Mosè stese la mano verso il cielo, e in tutto l'Egitto, per tre giorni, furon tenebre orribili.
23 No one could see anyone else or move about for three days, but al the Israelites did have lightwhere they were living.	23 Nessuno vedeva il suo vicino, nè si moveva da dove era. Dovunque invece abitavano i figli d'Israele, era luce.
24 Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, 'Go and worship Yahweh, but your flocks and herds are to stayhere. Your wives and children can go with you too.'	24 Il Faraone chiamò Mosè ed Aronne, e disse loro: «Andate, sacrificate al Signore; rimangano soltanto i vostri greggi e bestiami; i vostri bambini vadano con voi».
25 Moses said, 'But now you must give us sacrifices and burnt offerings to offer to Yahweh our God.	25 Disse Mosè: «Lasciaci le vittime e gli olocausti da offrire al Signore Dio nostro.
26 And our livestock will go with us too; not a hoof wil be left behind; for we may need animals fromthese to worship Yahweh our God; for until we get there we ourselves cannot tell how we are to worshipYahweh.'	26 Tutti gli animali partiranno con noi; non ne rimarrà nemmeno un'unghia, perché son necessari al culto del Signore Dio nostro; tanto più, che non sapremo quali si debbano immolare, sinchè non siamo arrivati a quel luogo».
27 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn, and he refused to let them go.	27 Ora, il Signore indurò il cuore del Faraone, che non volle lasciarli andare.
28 Pharaoh said to Moses, 'Out of my sight! Be sure you never see my face again, for the next time yousee my face you die!'	28 E disse il Faraone a Mosè: «Va' via dalla mia presenza, e guarda di non più venirmi dinanzi; in qualunque giorno tu mi comparirai davanti, morrai».
29 Moses then said, 'You yourself have said it. I shal never see your face again.'	29 Rispose Mosè: «Com'hai detto, così sarà: non mi presenterò più dinanzi a te».
