NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 The king's command and decree came into force on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar, andthe day on which the enemies of the Jews had hoped to crush them produced the very opposite effect: the Jewsit was who crushed their enemies.	1 NEL duodecimo mese adunque, che è il mese di Adar, nel tredicesimo giorno del mese, nel quale scadeva l’esecuzione della parola del re e del suo decreto; nel medesimo giorno che i nemici de’ Giudei speravano di averli in lor potere ma la cosa si rivolse in contrario; conciossiachè i Giudei avessero in lor potere i lor nemici,
2 In their towns throughout the provinces of King Ahasuerus, the Jews assembled to strike at those whohad planned to injure them. No one resisted them, since the various peoples were now al afraid of them.	2 i Giudei si raunarono nelle lor città, per tutte le provincie del re Assuero, per metter le mani adosso a coloro che tenterebbero di far loro male; e niuno potè loro stare a fronte; perciocchè lo spavento de’ Giudei era caduto sopra tutti i popoli.
3 Provincial officers-of-state, satraps, governors and royal officials, al supported the Jews for fear ofMordecai.	3 E tutti i principi delle provincie, ed i satrapi, ed i governatori, e coloro che facevano le faccende del re, favorivano i Giudei; perciocchè lo spavento di Mardocheo era caduto sopra loro.
4 And indeed Mordecai was a power in the palace and his fame was spreading through al the provinces;Mordecai was steadily growing more powerful.	4 Conciossiachè Mardocheo fosse grande nella casa del re, e la sua fama si spargesse per tutte le provincie; perchè quell’uomo Mardocheo diventava ogni dì vie più grande.
5 So the Jews struck down al their enemies with the sword, with resulting slaughter and destruction, andworked their wil on their opponents.	5 I Giudei adunque percossero tutti i lor nemici, mettendoli a fil di spada, e facendone uccisione e distruzione; e fecero inverso i lor nemici a lor volontà.
6 In the citadel of Susa alone, the Jews put to death and slaughtered five hundred men,	6 Ed in Susan, stanza reale, i Giudei uccisero e distrussero cinquecent’uomini;
7 notably Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,	7 uccisero ancora Parsandata, e Dalfon, ed Aspata, e Porata,
8 Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,	8 ed Adalia, ed Aridata,
9 Parmashtha, Arisai, Aridai and Jezatha,	9 e Parmasta, ed Arisai, ed Aridai, e Vaizata, dieci figliuoli di Haman,
10 the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the persecutor of the Jews. But they took no plunder.	10 figliuolo di Hammedata, nemico de’ Giudei; ma non misero le mani alla preda.
11 The number of those kil ed in the citadel of Susa was reported to the king that same day.	11 In quel giorno il numero di coloro ch’erano stati uccisi in Susan, stanza reale, fu rapportato in presenza del re.
12 The king said to Queen Esther, 'In the citadel of Susa the Jews have killed five hundred men and alsothe ten sons of Haman. What must they have done in the other provinces of the realm? Tel me your request; Igrant it to you. Tel me what else you would like; it is yours for the asking.'	12 E il re disse alla regina Ester: In Susan, stanza reale, i Giudei hanno uccisi, e distrutti cinquecent’uomini, e i dieci figliuoli di Haman; che avranno essi fatto nelle altre provincie del re? Ma pure, che chiedi tu ancora? e ti sarà conceduto; e che domandi tu ancora? e sarà fatto.
13 'If such is the king's pleasure,' Esther replied, 'let the Jews of Susa be al owed to enforce today'sdecree tomorrow as well. And as for the ten sons of Haman, let their bodies be hanged on the gal ows.'	13 Ed Ester disse: Se così piace al re, sia ancora domani conceduto a’ Giudei, che sono in Susan, di fare come era stato ordinato che oggi si facesse; e sieno i dieci figliuoli di Haman appiccati al legno.
14 Whereupon, the king having given the order, the edict was promulgated in Susa and the ten sons ofHaman were hanged.	14 E il re ordinò che così fosse fatto; e il decreto ne fu bandito in Susan; e i dieci figliuoli di Haman furono appiccati.
15 Thus the Jews of Susa reassembled on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and kil ed threehundred men in the city. But they took no plunder.	15 E i Giudei ch’erano in Susan, si adunarono ancora nel quartodecimo giorno del mese di Adar, ed uccisero in Susan trecent’uomini; ma non misero le mani alla preda.
16 The other Jews who lived in the king's provinces also assembled to defend their lives and ridthemselves of their enemies. They slaughtered seventy-five thousand of their opponents. But they took noplunder.	16 Gli altri Giudei ch’erano nelle provincie del re, si adunarono anch’essi, e stettero alla difesa della lor vita; ed ebbero riposo de’ lor nemici, avendone uccisi settantacinquemila, senza però metter le mani alla preda.
17 This was on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar. On the fourteenth day they rested and made it aday of feasting and gladness.	17 Questo avvenne al tredicesimo giorno del mese di Adar; poi al quartodecimo dell’istesso mese si riposarono, e celebrarono quel giorno, come giorno di conviti e di letizia.
18 But for the Jews of Susa, who had assembled on the thirteenth and fourteenth days, the fifteenth wasthe day they rested, making that a day of feasting and gladness.	18 Ma i Giudei ch’erano in Susan, si raunarono al tredicesimo ed al quartodecimo di quel mese; poi al quintodecimo si riposarono, e celebrarono quel giorno, come giorno di conviti e di letizia.
19 This is why Jewish country people, those who live in undefended vil ages, keep the fourteenth day ofthe month of Adar as a day of gladness, feasting and holiday-making, and the exchanging of presents with oneanother, (a) whereas for those who live in cities the day of rejoicing and exchanging presents with theirneighbours is the fifteenth day of Adar.	19 Perciò, i Giudei delle villate che abitano nelle terre non murate, celebrano il quartodecimo giorno del mese di Adar, con allegrezza, e con conviti, e con festa, e con mandar messi di vivande gli uni agli altri
20 Mordecai committed these events to writing. Then he sent letters to all the Jews living in the provincesof King Ahasuerus, both near and far,	20 E MARDOCHEO scrisse queste cose, e ne mandò lettere a tutti i Giudei ch’erano per tutte le provincie del re Assuero, presso, e lungi;
21 enjoining them to celebrate the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar every year,	21 ordinando loro per istatuto che celebrassero il quartodecimo, e il quintodecimo giorno del mese di Adar, ogni anno;
22 as the days on which the Jews had rid themselves of their enemies, and the month in which theirsorrow had been turned into gladness, and mourning into a holiday. He therefore told them to keep these asdays of festivity and gladness when they were to exchange presents and make gifts to the poor.	22 ch’erano i giorni, ne’ quali i Giudei ebber riposo de’ lor nemici; e il mese che fu loro convertito di dolore in letizia, e di duolo in festa; acciocchè li celebrassero, come giorni di conviti e di allegrezza, e da mandarsi messi di vivande gli uni agli altri, e doni a’ bisognosi.
23 Once having begun, the Jews continued observing these practices, Mordecai having written them anaccount	23 E i Giudei accettarono di far ciò che aveano cominciato, e ciò che Mardocheo avea loro scritto.
24 of how Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the persecutor of al the Jews, had plotted theirdestruction and had cast the pur, that is, the lot, for their overthrow and ruin;	24 Perciocchè Haman, figliuolo di Hammedata, Agageo, nemico di tutti i Giudei, avea fatta una macchinazione contro a’ Giudei, per distruggerli; e avea tirata Pur, cioè la sorte, per isconfiggerli, e per distruggerli.
25 but how, when he went back to the king to ask him to order the hanging of Mordecai, the wickedscheme which he had devised against the Jews recoiled on his own head, and both he and his sons werehanged on the gallows;	25 Ma dopo ch’Ester fu venuta in presenza del re, egli ordinò con lettere, che la scellerata macchinazione che Haman avea fatta contro a’ Giudei, fosse rivolta in sul capo di lui stesso; e ch’egli co’ suoi figliuoli, fosse appiccato al legno.
26 and that, hence, these days were cal ed Purim, from the word pur. And so, because of what waswritten in this letter, and because of what they had seen for themselves and of what had happened to them,	26 Perciò que’ giorni furono chiamati Purim, dal nome di Pur; perciò ancora, secondo tutte le parole di quelle lettere, e secondo quello che aveano veduto intorno a ciò, e quello ch’era pervenuto fino a loro,
27 the Jews wil ingly bound themselves, their descendants and al who should join them, to celebratethese two days without fail, in the manner prescribed and at the time appointed, year after year.	27 i Giudei costituirono, e presero sopra sè, e sopra la lor progenie, e sopra tutti quelli che si aggiungerebbero con loro, per istatuto immutabile, di celebrar que’ due giorni, secondo che n’era stato scritto; e ciò, al tempo loro, ogni anno; e che la memoria di que’ giorni sarebbe celebrata,
28 Thus commemorated and celebrated from generation to generation, in every family, in every province,in every city, these days of Purim will never be abrogated among the Jews, nor will their memory perish fromtheir race.	28 e che sarebbero solennizzati in ogni età, in ogni famiglia, provincia, e città; e che que’ giorni di Purim non trapasserebbero mai, senza esser celebrati fra i Giudei, e che la lor memoria non verrebbe mai meno appo la loro posterità.
29 Queen Esther, the daughter of Abihail, wrote with ful authority to ratify this second letter,	29 E la regina Ester, figliuola di Abihail, insieme con Mardocheo Giudeo, scrisse, con ogni instanza, per la seconda volta, per confermar le prime lettere intorno a’ giorni di Purim.
30 and sent letters to all the Jews of the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the realm of Ahasuerus,in terms of peace and loyalty	30 E Mardocheo ne mandò le lettere a tutti i Giudei, per le cenventisette provincie del regno di Assuero, con parole amorevoli e sincere.
31 enjoining them to observe these days of Purim at the appointed time, as Mordecai the Jew hadrecommended, and in the manner prescribed for themselves and their descendants, with additional ordinancesfor fasts and lamentations.	31 Per fermar l’osservanza di que’ giorni di Purim a’ lor tempi; siccome Mardocheo Giudeo, e le regina Ester, aveano loro ordinato; e come eglino stessi aveano preso sopra sè, e sopra la lor posterità; insieme co’ digiuni e con le grida che vi si devono usare.
32 The ordinance of Esther fixed the law of Purim, which was then recorded in a book.	32 Così il comandamento di Ester confermò l’osservanza di que’ giorni di Purim. E ciò fu scritto nel libro
