Esther 7

1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 Il re ed Aman andarono adunque al convito colla regina.
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 E anche in questo secondo giorno, il re, quando fu riscaldato dal vino, le disse: « Che chiedi che ti sia dato, o Ester? Che vuoi che ti si faccia? Anche se chiedi la metà del mio regno, l'avrai ».
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 Ester gli rispose: « Se io ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, o re, se così ti piace, donami la mia vita per cui mi raccomando, e il mio popolo per cui chiedo grazia.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Io e il mio popolo siamo stati venduti, per esser calpestati, sgozzati, sterminati. E fossimo almeno venduti come schiavi e schiave, tal male sarebbe tollerabile, e gemerei in silenzio; ma noi abbiamo un nemico, la crudeltà del quale ricade sopra il re ».
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 Il re Assuero rispose e disse: « Chi è, e qual è il suo potere per ardire di far questo? »
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Ester rispose: « Il nostro avversario, il nemico è questo malvagio di Aman ». A queste parole Aman restò impietrito da non poter sostenere gli sguardi del re e della regina.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 Il re pieno di sdegno s'alzò, e dal luogo del convito passò in un giardino piantato di alberi. Allora Aman, comprendendo che il re aveva decisa la sua rovina, si alzò per raccomandare alla regina la sua vita.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Così Assuero quando, tornando dal giardino piantato d'alberi, entrò nel luogo del convito, trovò Aman disteso sul letto in cui giaceva Ester, e disse: « Anche alla regina vuol far violenza davanti a me, in casa mia? » Non era ancora uscita dalla bocca del re questa parola, che subito copersero la faccia di Aman.
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 E Arbona, uno degli eunuchi che erano al servizio del re disse: « Ecco che il patibolo da lui preparato per Mardocheo, che parlò nell'interesse del re, sta nella casa di Aman, ed ha cinquanta cubiti di altezza ». Il re gli disse: «Impiccateci lui».
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 Così Aman fu appeso al patibolo da lui preparato a Mardocheo. E l'ira del re si calmò.
