Esther 7

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 El rey y Amán fueron al banquete con la reina Ester.
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 Aquel segundo día, en el momento de brindar, el rey volvió a decir a Ester: «¿Qué es lo que pides, reina Ester? Lo que sea, te será concedido. ¿Qué es lo que quieres? Aunque sea la mitad del reino, lo tendrás».
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 La reina Ester tomó la palabra y dijo: «Rey, si estás dispuesto a hacerme un favor y si esto es lo que te agrada, mi petición es que me concedas la vida y mi deseo es que perdones la vida a mi pueblo.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Porque yo y mi pueblo hemos sido entregados al exterminio, a la muerte y a la destrucción. Si hubiéramos sido vendidos como esclavos y esclavas, me habría callado, ya que esa desgracia no habría perjudicado al rey».
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 El rey Asuero tomó la palabra y dijo a la reina Ester: «¿Quién es y dónde está el que ha concebido semejante cosa?».
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Ester respondió: «¡El enemigo y adversario es ese miserable de Amán!». Amán quedó aterrorizado ante el rey y la reina.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 Y el rey, en un arrebato de ira, se retiró del banquete y fue hacia el jardín del palacio. Mientras tanto, Amán se quedó para implorar por su vida a la reina Ester, porque veía que el rey ya había decidido su ruina.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Cuando el rey volvió del jardín del palacio a la sala del banquete, Amán estaba tendido sobre el diván donde se recostaba Ester. Entonces el rey exclamó: «¡Y todavía se atreve a violar a la reina estando yo en la casa!». Apenas el rey pronunció esta palabra, se abalanzaron sobre Amán y le taparon el rostro,
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 y Jarboná, uno de los eunucos, dijo en presencia del rey: «Precisamente en casa de Amán se ha instalado un patíbulo de veinticinco metros; él mismo lo hizo levantar para Mardoqueo, aquel que salvó al rey con su denuncia». El rey ordenó: «¡Cuélguenlo allí!».
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 Así colgaron a Amán del patíbulo que él había preparado para Mardoqueo, y se calmó la furia del rey.
