Esther 7

1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 Vennero il re e Aman a banchettare con la regina Ester
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 e anche il secondo giorno il re disse a Ester, mentre si beveva il vino: "Qual è la tua domanda, regina Ester? Io te la concederò! Qual è la tua richiesta? Fino alla metà del mio regno ti sarà concessa!".
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 La regina Ester rispose: "Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi del re e se al re sembrerà bene, mi sia concessa la mia vita per la mia domanda, e quella del mio popolo per la mia richiesta.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Perché siamo stati venduti, io e il mio popolo, per essere sterminati, uccisi e distrutti. Se fossimo stati venduti schiavi e schiave, avrei taciuto; ma il nemico non potrà compensare il danno che ne verrebbe al re".
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 Il re domandò alla regina Ester: "Chi è e dove sta colui che ha concepito nel suo cuore di fare tal cosa?".
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Ester rispose: "Il persecutore e nemico è questo perfido Aman". Aman fu preso allora da terrore davanti al re e alla regina.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 Il re si alzò pieno d'ira dal banchetto per andare nel giardino del palazzo e Aman restò a supplicare Ester per la sua vita, perché aveva capito che la sua disgrazia era stata decisa dal re.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Il re tornò dal giardino del palazzo nella casa del festino, mentre Aman si era lasciato cadere sul divano su cui stava Ester. Allora il re esclamò: "Si farebbe anche violenza alla regina, in casa mia, nel palazzo?". Un ordine uscì dalla bocca del re e subito velarono il volto di Aman.
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 Carbonà, uno degli eunuchi, disse al re: "Ecco, c'è il patibolo che Aman aveva preparato per Mardocheo, quello che ha parlato nell'interesse del re; è rizzato nella casa di Aman, alto cinquanta cubiti". Il re disse: "Lo si impicchi su di esso".
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 Impiccarono così Aman sul patibolo che aveva preparato per Mardocheo e l'ira del re si placò.
