Esther 7

1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 Le roi vint donc, ainsi qu’Aman, au festin de la reine Esther.
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 Ce second jour, le roi dit encore à Esther au moment où l’on servait le vin: "Quelle est ta demande, reine Esther? Elle te sera accordée! Quel est ton désir? Quand ce serait la moitié de mon royaume, cela se fera.”
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 La reine Esther répondit au roi: "Si j’ai trouvé grâce aux yeux du roi, et si le roi le veut bien, je demande qu’on m’accorde la vie, je désire qu’on l’accorde à mon peuple.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Car nous avons été vendus, moi et mon peuple, pour être massacrés, tués, exterminés. Si nous avions été seulement vendus en esclavage, je n’aurais rien dit; mais comment l’ennemi pourra-t-il compenser ce dommage fait au roi?”
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 Le roi Assuérus prit la parole et dit à la reine Esther: "Mais, qui est-ce? Où est-il cet homme qui nourrit de tels projets?”
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Esther répondit: "L’adversaire, l’ennemi, le voici! C’est Aman, ce méchant homme!” Aman resta glacé de terreur face au roi et à la reine.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 Le roi se leva de table très en colère et gagna le jardin du palais; Aman, lui, resta pour implorer son salut auprès de la reine Esther, car il voyait bien que le roi avait décidé sa perte.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Lorsque le roi revint du jardin du palais à la salle du festin, Aman s’était laissé tomber sur le divan où Esther était étendue. Le roi s’écria: "Va-t-il maintenant faire violence à la reine, chez moi, dans mon palais?” Aussitôt, le roi donna un ordre et l’on jeta un voile sur le visage d’Aman.
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 Harbona, l’un des eunuques, dit au roi: "Il y a une potence qu’Aman a préparée pour Mardochée, celui qui a bien mérité du roi. Elle est dressée devant la maison d’Aman et elle est haute de 50 coudées.” Alors le roi dit: "Pendez-y Aman.”
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 On pendit Aman à la potence qu’il avait préparée pour Mardochée, et la colère du roi s’apaisa.
