Esther 7

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 Le roi et Aman allèrent banqueter chez la reine Esther,
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 et ce deuxième jour, pendant le banquet, le roi dit encore à Esther: "Dis-moi ce que tu demandes,reine Esther, c'est accordé d'avance! Dis-moi ce que tu désires; serait-ce la moitié du royaume, c'est chose faite"--
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 "Si vraiment j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ô roi, lui répondit la reine Esther, et si tel est ton bon plaisir,accorde-moi la vie, voilà ma demande, et la vie de mon peuple, voilà mon désir.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Car nous sommes livrés, mon peuple et moi, à l'extermination, à la tuerie et à l'anéantissement. Siencore nous avions seulement été livrés comme esclaves ou servantes, je me serais tue. Mais en l'occurrence lepersécuteur sera hors d'état de compenser le dommage qui va en résulter pour le roi."
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 Mais Assuérus prit la parole et dit à la reine Esther: "Qui est-ce? Où est l'homme qui a pensé agirainsi?"
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Alors Esther: "Le persécuteur, l'ennemi, c'est Aman, c'est ce misérable!" A la vue du roi et de lareine, Aman fut glacé de terreur.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 Furieux, le roi se leva et quitta le banquet pour gagner le jardin du palais, cependant qu'Amandemeurait près de la reine Esther pour implorer la grâce de la vie, sentant trop bien que le roi avait décidé saperte.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Quand le roi revint du jardin dans la salle du banquet, il trouva Aman effondré sur le divan où Estherétait étendue. "Va-t-il après cela faire violence à la reine chez moi, dans le palais?" S'écria-t-il. A peine le motétait-il sorti de sa bouche qu'un voile fut jeté sur la face d'Aman.
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 Harbona, un des eunuques, dit en présence du roi: "Justement il y a une potence de 50 coudéesqu'Aman a fait préparer pour ce Mardochée qui a parlé pour le bien du roi; elle est toute dressée dans sa maison"-- "Qu'on l'y pende", ordonna le roi.
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 Aman fut donc pendu à la potence dressée par lui pour Mardochée et la colère du roi s'apaisa.
