Esther 7

1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 - Il re dunque, con Aman, si mise a tavola con la regina.
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 E quando fu riscaldato dal vino le disse, anche quel secondo giorno: «Qual è la cosa che chiedi ti venga data, o Ester, e che cosa vuoi ti sia fatto? Anche se mi domanderai la metà del mio regno, l'otterrai».
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 Essa rispose: «Se ho trovato favore dinanzi a te, o re, e se a te piace, salva la mia vita per la quale ti prego, e salva il mio popolo per il quale ti supplico.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Io ed il mio popolo siamo stati consegnati [a' nostri nemici] per esser distrutti, trucidati, dispersi. Fossimo piuttosto venduti per schiavi e schiave! Sarebbe un male più tollerabile, e gemerei in silenzio; ma ora invece la crudeltà del nostro nemico ricade anche sul re».
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 Rispose il re Assuero, e disse. «Chi è costui, e donde ha tanta potenza da osar di far questo?».
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Disse Ester: «Il nemico e persecutore nostro è questo scellerato Aman». Il che udendo, egli restò impietrito, non potendo sostenere lo sguardo del re e della regina.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 Il re allora s'alzò sdegnato, e dalla sala del convito passò nel giardino piantato ad alberi. Anche Aman s'alzò per pregar la regina Ester di aver salva la vita, avendo compreso che dal re gli si preparava qualche gran male.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Tornato questi dal giardino piantato ad alberi, e rientrato nella sala del convito, trovò che Aman s'era buttato sul divano sul quale giaceva Ester, e disse: «Costui vuole anche far violenza alla regina, sotto i miei occhi, nel mio palazzo!». Aveva egli appena pronunziate queste parole, che subito ad Aman venne coperta la faccia.
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 Ed Arbona uno degli eunuchi addetti al servizio del re, disse. «Ecco nella casa di Aman v'è una forca alta cinquanta cubiti, e l'aveva fatta preparare per quel Mardocheo che salvò il re». Dissegli il re : «Appiccatelo a quella».
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 Fu dunque Aman appiccato a quella forca, e l'ira del re si placò.
