Esther 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet,	1 El rey y Amán fueron al banquete de la reina Ester.
2 and this second day, during the banquet, the king again said to Esther, 'Tel me your request, QueenEsther. I grant it to you. Whatever you want; even if it is half my kingdom, it is yours for the asking.'	2 También el segundo día dijo el rey a Ester, durante el banquete: «¿Qué deseas pedir, reina Ester?, pues te será concedido. ¿Cuál es tu deseo? Aunque fuera la mitad del reino, se cumplirá».
3 'If I have found favour in your eyes, O king,' Queen Esther replied, 'and if it please your majesty, grantme my life -- that is my request; and the lives of my people -- that is what I want.	3 Respondió la reina Ester: «Si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, ¡oh rey!, y si al rey le place, concédeme la vida - este es mi deseo - y la de mi pueblo - esta es mi petición.
4 For we have been handed over, my people and I, to destruction, slaughter and annihilation; had wemerely been sold as slaves and servant-girls, I should not have said anything; but in the present case, it wil bebeyond the persecutor's means to make good the loss that the king is about to sustain.'	4 Pues yo y mi pueblo hemos sido vendidos, para ser exterminados, muertos y aniquilados. Si hubiéramos sido vendidos para esclavos y esclavas, aún hubiera callado; mas ahora, el enemigo no podrá compensar al rey por tal pérdida».
5 King Ahasuerus interrupted Queen Esther, 'Who is this man?' he exclaimed. 'Where is the man who hasthought of doing such a thing?'	5 Preguntó el rey Asuero a la reina Ester: «¿Quién es, y dónde está el hombre que ha pensado en su corazón ejecutar semejante cosa?»
6 Esther replied, 'The persecutor, the enemy? Why, this wretch Haman!' Haman quaked with terror in thepresence of the king and queen.	6 Respondió Ester: «¡El perseguidor y enemigo es Amán, ese miserable!» Amán quedó aterrado en presencia del rey y de la reina.
7 In a rage the king got up from the banquet and went into the palace garden; while Haman, realising thatthe king was determined on his ruin, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.	7 El rey se levantó, lleno de ira, del banquete y se fue al jardín del palacio; Amán, se quedó junto a la reina Ester, para suplicarle por su vida, porque comprendía que, de parte del rey, se le venía encima la perdición.
8 When the king came back from the palace garden into the banqueting hal , he found Haman sprawledacross the couch where Esther was reclining. 'What!' the king exclaimed. 'Is he going to rape the queen in myown palace?' The words were scarcely out of his mouth than a veil was thrown over Haman's face.	8 Cuando el rey volvió del jardín de palacio a la sala del banquete, Amán se había dejado caer sobre el lecho de Ester. El rey exclamó: «¿Es que incluso en mi propio palacio quiere hacer violencia a la reina?» Dio el rey una orden y cubrieron el rostro de Amán.
9 In the royal presence, Harbona, one of the officers, said, 'There is that fifty-cubit gal ows, too, whichHaman ran up for Mordecai, who spoke up to the king's great advantage. It is al ready at his house.' 'Hang himon it,' said the king.	9 Jarboná, uno de los eunucos que estaban ante el rey, sugirió: «Precisamente, la horca que Amán había destinado para Mardoqueo, aquel cuyo informe fue tan útil al rey, está preparada en casa de Amán, y tiene cincuenta codos de altura». Dijo el rey: «¡Colgadle de ella!»
10 So Haman was hanged on the gal ows which he had erected for Mordecai, and the king's wrathsubsided.	10 Colgaron a Amán de la horca que había levantado para Mardoqueo, y se aplacó la ira del rey.
