Nehemiah 2

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, since I was in charge of the wine, I tookthe wine and offered it to the king. Now, he had never seen me looking depressed before.	1 No vigésimo ano do rei Artaxerxes, no mês de Nisã, estando o vinho diante de mim, tomei-o e o ofereci ao rei. Ora, jamais em outra ocasião, eu estivera triste em sua presença.
2 So the king said to me, 'Why are you looking depressed? You are not sick! This must be a sadness ofthe heart.' Thoroughly alarmed by this,	2 Disse-me o rei: Por que tens a face sombria? Não estás doente! Tens no entanto algum dissabor!
3 I said to the king, 'May the king live for ever! How can I not look depressed when the city where thetombs of my ancestors are lies in ruins and its gates have been burnt down?'	3 Muito conturbado respondi ao rei: Viva o rei para sempre! Como não haveria eu de estar pesaroso, desde que a cidade onde se encontram os túmulos de meus pais está devastada e suas portas consumidas pelo fogo?
4 The king then said to me, 'What would you like me to do?' Praying to the God of heaven,	4 Disse-me o rei: Que tens a me pedir?
5 I said to the king, 'If the king approves and your servant enjoys your favour, send me to Judah, to thecity of the tombs of my ancestors, so that I can rebuild it.'	5 Então, fazendo uma prece ao Deus do céu, eu disse ao rei: Se aprouver ao rei, e se o teu servo te é agradável, permite-me ir para a terra de Judá, à cidade onde se encontram os túmulos de meus pais, para reconstruí-la.
6 The king -- with the queen sitting beside him-said, 'How long wil your journey take, and when wil youcome back?' Once I had given him a definite time, the king approved my mission.	6 O rei, junto de quem estava sentada a rainha, perguntou-me: Quanto tempo durará tua viagem? Quando voltarás? Ele consentiu que eu partisse, logo que lhe fixei certo prazo.
7 I then said to the king, 'If the king approves, may I be given orders for the governors of Transeuphratesto let me pass through on my way to Judah?	7 Prossegui: Se o rei achar bom, que me dêem missivas para os governadores de além do rio, a fim de que me deixem passar para Judá;
8 Also an order for Asaph, keeper of the king's forest, to supply me with timber for the beams of the gatesof the citadel of the Temple, for the city wal s and for the house which I am to occupy?' These the king grantedme because the kindly hand of my God was over me.	8 e uma outra carta para Asaf, o intendente da floresta real, para que ele me forneça a madeira para a viga das portas da fortaleza vizinha ao templo, para as muralhas da cidade e para a casa em que eu habitar. O rei concordou com o meu pedido, porque a mão favorável de meu Deus estava comigo.
9 When I reached the governors of Transeuphrates, I gave them the king's orders. The king had sent anescort of army officers and cavalry along with me.	9 Fui ter com os governadores de além do rio e entreguei-lhes as cartas do rei; ora, o rei fizera-me escoltar por alguns chefes militares e cavaleiros.
10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the official of Ammon heard about this, they wereexceedingly displeased that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.	10 Mas, quando Sanabalat, o horonita, e Tobias, o servo amonita, foram informados disso, ficaram grandemente despeitados por ter chegado um homem que procurava o bem dos filhos de Israel.
11 And so I reached Jerusalem. After I had been there three days,	11 Cheguei a Jerusalém e, depois de ter passado ali três dias,
12 I got up during the night with a few other men -- I had not told anyone what my God had inspired me todo for Jerusalem -- taking no animal with me other than my own mount.	12 levantei-me durante a noite acompanhado de um pequeno grupo de homens, sem dizer a ninguém o que o meu Deus me inspirara fazer por Jerusalém. Não tinha comigo outro animal, senão aquele em que montava.
13 Under cover of dark I went out through the Val ey Gate towards the Dragon's Fountain as far as theDung Gate, and examined the wall of Jerusalem where it was broken down and its gates burnt out.	13 Saí à noite pela porta do Vale, e dirigi-me à fonte do Dragão e à porta da Esterqueira; verifiquei que as muralhas de Jerusalém estavam arruinadas e que as portas estavam consumidas pelo fogo.
14 I then crossed to the Fountain Gate and the King's Pool, but it was impassable to my mount.	14 Prossegui rumo à porta da Fonte e à piscina do Rei; mas não havia ali lugar para passagem com a minha montaria.
15 So I went up the Val ey in the dark, examining the wal ; I then went in again through the Val ey Gate,coming back	15 Subi então à noite ao barranco, examinei a muralha, retomei em seguida o mesmo caminho e reentrei pela porta do Vale.
16 without the officials knowing where I had gone or what I had been doing. So far I had said nothing tothe Jews: neither to the priests, the nobles, the officials nor any other persons involved in the undertaking.	16 Os magistrados ignoravam onde eu tinha ido e o que queria fazer. Até aquele momento, eu nada havia deixado transparecer, nem aos Judeus, nem aos sacerdotes, nem aos homens importantes, nem aos magistrados, nem às demais pessoas do povo que se ocupavam dos trabalhos.
17 I then said to them, 'You see what a sorry state we are in: Jerusalem is in ruins and its gates havebeen burnt down. Come on, we must rebuild the wal s of Jerusalem and put an end to our humiliating position!'	17 Disse-lhes então: Vede a miséria em que estamos; Jerusalém devastada, suas portas consumidas pelo fogo! Vinde; reconstruamos as muralhas da cidade e ponhamos termo a esta humilhante situação.
18 And I told them how the kindly hand of my God had been over me, and the words which the king hadsaid to me. At this they said, 'Let us start building at once!' and they set their hands to the good work.	18 Contei-lhes em seguida como a mão de meu Deus me favorecera e narrei-lhes tudo o que dissera o rei. Gritaram todos: Vamos! Reconstruamos! E com coragem puseram-se a trabalhar nessa boa obra.
19 When Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the official of Ammon, and Geshem the Arab heard about this,they laughed at us and jeered. They said, 'What is this you are doing? Are you going to revolt against the king?'	19 Quando Sanabalat, o horonita, Tobias, o servo amonita, e Gossem, o árabe, souberam disso, zombaram de nós e diziam num tom de desprezo: Que estais fazendo? Quereis revoltar-vos contra o rei?
20 But I gave them this answer, 'The God of heaven will grant us success and we, his servants, mean tostart building; as for you, you have neither share nor right nor memorial in Jerusalem.'	20 Respondi-lhes: O próprio Deus do céu é quem nos fará triunfar. Nós somos seus servos, e vamos reconstruir. Quanto a vós, não tendes parte, nem direito, nem lembrança em Jerusalém.
